In 1945, thousands of German refugee children were living in camps in Denmark.

Danes had spent years under German occupation. Helping those refugees was not a popular position to take.

Quakers such as Elise Thomsen chose to help anyway - a reminder that compassion is often easiest in principle and hardest in practice.

Attention is becoming harder to hold.

Most of us move through the day reacting. Messages arrive, feeds refresh, and something is always demanding focus.

Quaker practice creates space to pause and listen carefully. That can mean listening to other people, to ourselves, or simply sitting quietly for a while without needing to fill the silence.

Sometimes clarity comes from giving something more time before responding.
