West Yorkshire’s bus franchising plans have taken a major step forward after the first contracts were signed by the Combined Authority and operators.

First West Yorkshire will run services in #Huddersfield and parts of #Leeds, while Transdev Blazefield will operate in Dewsbury. Smaller and school service contracts are also progressing, with announcements expected soon.

The first Weaver Network services are due to begin in spring 2027, with franchising introduced across the region in three phases through to autumn 2028.

Under the new system, the West #Yorkshire Combined Authority will set routes, fares and service standards, while operators will run services under contract. The authority says the changes will give local people greater control and improve reliability, affordability and accountability.

Round two will focus mainly on parts of Leeds and Wakefield, while the final phase will cover the rest of West Yorkshire, including #Bradford and Calderdale.
