  1. A piece nominally about #Bradford's #CleanAirZone.

It started with a friend in #Saltaire flagging long-running health studies of children born in Bradford — and the way the Aire Valley's shape concentrates pollution.

Titus Salt built Saltaire in the 1850s to escape Bradford's foul air. 150 years later, a trunk road runs through same valley that now traps traffic's exhaust. Debate argues about charge; valley barely gets a mention.

  3. I'm selling my old but low-mileage Vectra C 150 CDTi SRi, 56 plate, 108k miles (mostly major roads), MOT to October and not expecting any major problems.

West Yorkshire area. Looking for private offers, as I hear #Vectra enthusiasts will be interested in this one.

Would especially suit motorway or distance drivers. It's comfy and responsive.

    Boosts appreciated.

  4. Lord Blunkett will chair the new White Rose Rail Board, bringing #Yorkshire leaders and rail partners together to drive delivery of Northern #Powerhouse Rail (NPR). The board includes the region’s mayors, #Government, Network Rail and industry representatives, with a focus on turning plans into action.

The move follows a £45 billion Government commitment to NPR, with Yorkshire central to the first phase. Early work will include electrification and upgrades between #Sheffield and #Leeds, enabling up to four fast trains an hour, alongside improvements at Sheffield, York and Leeds stations and plans for a new #Bradford station.

The investment aims to create faster, more reliable connections, support jobs, regeneration and growth, and strengthen links across Yorkshire, the North and beyond.

  5. #CleanAir is #woke! Or something like that.

Anyway, #Bradford Council's new #ReformUK leader wants to stop enforcing clean air. The #ConservativeParty leader agrees. And ReformUK with Tories have a majority on the Council, so they can do what they want.

Looks like Bradford residents are about to be liberated from the tyranny of breathable air. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c30yn2

  7. Close to #Leeds and #Bradford in #WestYorkshire, the Washburn Valley is like a place time forgot. No road runs through it and is is a peaceful place leading to a circuit of Swinsty Reservoir. Pretty Timble village en route. Good views. See happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/North

  8. Our local industrial museum has been added to Atlas Obscura at last. It's a wool mill but also features local trams, Jowett cars and a steam locomotive that ran on dried sewage and was lubricated with wool grease: https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/bradford-industrial-museum #bradford

  9. @Lazarou
I don't begrudge the people of London their fantastic public transport network. No, really I don't.
I just think it would be good if places other than London also got some funding for infrastructure so that they had chance to catch up.

I'm sure others can help out with examples of where the money's gone to London but the one that stings most at the moment is the Leeds-Bradford tram. The money is instead going to build an extension of the DLR to Thamesmead.

  10. Hype for the Future 172G → Communities in Northern Florida

Introduction Much of the region now known as Northern Florida is located to the east of the edge of the Florida Panhandle and north of the Florida Peninsula, home to communities such as Jacksonville and Gainesville within the area. Perhaps the most culturally Deep Southern portion of Northern Florida is likely the region west of the communities on and near the immediate East Coast, but north of (and including) the City of Ocala in Marion County.
