  2. Since I’m sharing 2025 work for #artAdventCalendar, another thing I did this year was make a large collection of repeat patterns, like this Velvet worm repeat pattern! Putting more invertebrate linocuts into surface design!

These adorable, caterpillar-like blue velvet worm from New Zealand (Aotearoa). Velvet worms (phylum: Onychophora) are named for their velvet-like texture and somewhat wormlike appearance. 🧵

  3. Day 10 #ArtAdventCalendar

I like to take shapes, gestural motifs, and colours from my abstracted paintings and rework them into surface designs. This one is Ruska 2 v2 Blue, as printed on cotton percale in 2023. (I ordered it from CottonBee, and it is available on other fabrics via Spoonflower.)

  4. Another #invertebrate repeat pattern for #invertefest! This one is made with might linocut #Beetles. My print shows, from left to right, top to bottom: Goliath beetle, Calligrapha verrucosa, blowout tiger beetle, Fruhstorferia sexmaculata, Phaedon oviformis, Reindeer beetle, Ceratophyus martinez, Erythrus ardens.

  5. The species is not only dimorphic with different male and female forms but also the females are polymorphic (that is, they come in different forms) and with mimetic forms (mimicking other species). This one is the Female alcanor form (with the swallow tails).

  6. the anemone from its predators and parasites and nitrogen excreted by the anemonefish increases the number of algae incorporated into the tissue of their hosts, which aids the anemone in tissue growth and regeneration. The fish even aerate their hosts with their movements and may lure anemone pray with their bright colours.

  7. & babies develop inside their mother until large enough to be born, in batches of 4–6, as colourless miniatures of the parents! Peripatoides novaezealandiae is a species complex of velvet worms in the genus Peripatoides, found throughout NZ. My print was made based on photos of P. aurorbis, but all the P. novaezealandiae have no morphological characters that distinguish them.

  8. In high-density, these grasshoppers can be considered a garden or argricultural pest who eat grain. Their food consumption raises with temperature. On the other hand, grasshoppers are edible and looking to the future, people are starting to think creatively about protein sources with less environmental impact.

  9. Saw the Woven Histories exhibit at MoMA and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the textile arts. #Weaving has the largest representation, but there was also #SurfaceDesign, #felting, #basketry #metalwork and more.

  10. Another fun, simple repeat pattern made with the tomato lino block print I carved and printed for my print about food crops grown here in Ontario which benefit from insects. 🍅

  11. This is a repeat pattern I made with my linocut print, on beautiful Japanese papers, about the milkweed plant, beloved of the native pollinators. Well-known for its appeal to monarch butterflies, it is also a favourite of the many different native bumblebees and insects like this small milkweed bug.

Find it in the minouette spoonflower! spoonflower.com/en/fabric/1989

  12. Here’s a simple repeat pattern with the strawberry linocut I made for my print about plants which benefit from insects. I think sometimes simple is best on textiles and I have been thinking about hand printing some strawberry fabric. You can find this one in my minouette Spoonflower
    collection too.

  13. Introducing the repeat surface pattern Waves and Foam. The shapes and motifs come from a small abstracted water painting that I have hidden away in my studio. (No lozenges this time!) It is available for purchase on fabric of your choice at Spoonflower: spoonflower.com/profiles/kamin

  15. Since I made all these block prints of Ontario food crops helped by insects for my upcoming show, I thought I would use them to make some repeat patterns too! You can find these ‘Harvest’ print patterns on fabric or wallpaper in my Spoonflower shop.

They include cranberry, eggplant, green bean, apricot, field cucumber, blueberries (both low and high bush), gooseberry, plum, raspberry, pole bean, haskap, pumpkin, 🧵

  17. Heyyyy mastodon!

It’s time for a snapshot #introduction of me, and how I'm hoping to contribute to this platform

My name is Cassie and I run a Philadelphia based community craft and art group. The group started 9 years ago on another well known platform and over the years it stopped serving our purposes. My hope is that this space can help connect our local community and inspire others to follow suit.

I prefer she/her and they/them pronouns and I default to using they/them pronouns with new people that don’t specify a preference.

    I'm an #artist, #crafter, #organizer, and #designer. In order of most experienced to least, I utilize and teach the following skills: #leatherwork #accessorydesign #handembroidery #chainstitchembroidery #basketweaving #handbuildingclay #bookmaking #printing #surfacedesign #naturaldyeing #felting #spinningyarn #painting #drawing

I like to create, I have a love of aquatic fish, mushrooms, bugs, bones, prismatic colors, texture, line work, anything tufted, and gin is the way to my heart.

I look forward to sharing my creations and offering support with questions about any skillsets that I am able!
