The wouldn't care if you did.

It's well known by both sides of the spectrum in #politics, that the #US has a de-facto ruling #oligarchy in its tech and financial sectors despite all the democratic claims. An oligarchy able to control the political system, its legislation and the application of justice through their sheer possession of #money. It's control over public #institutions is undisputed... to the extent that, in daily practice, it is bound by no legislation, no intellectual #property. It embodies the very definition and practice of #anarchocapitalism, just not so formally stated as to explicitly reject the rule of #law. Appearances must be kept, but only to a certain extent.

#LatinAmerica has its own, endemic, oligarchy problem too; not coming out of its local tech sector, but from the #drugs dealing, human #trafficking, #smuggling, #prostitution, and murder-by-contract businesses instead. Because that is what they truly are: #businesses... organizations conducting particular forms of #trade, for the sake of personal #profit. Those oligarchs, just like its american counterparts, share the exact same anarchocapitalist view that the law shouldn't restrict the freedom to do business of any sort. Even if that business ends up with a couple of bullets inside the cranium of some 18 year old kid. Accidents can always happen at the job.

The enterprise in itself always had a direct link to organized #crime, not the least because of the identical nature of their entrepreneurial activity. And that, by necessity, means that very similar practices must take place in each. It's truly not surprising that every "fully legally compliant" #enterprise is, behind closed doors, hiding plenty of illegal practices within... from #taxevasion thanks to carefully selected international banks and falsified accounting records, to financial #fraud designed to deceive investors and shareholders.

In certain moments, when this symmetry becomes specially obvious, one side and the other can truly and visibly overlap. This is how a sizable group of american business men made their initial fortunes trafficking alcohol during times of #prohibition, in the 20s and 30s, only to become the established entrepreneurial class of later years. Now, the direct successors of that group of oligarchs are in Silicon Valley at the moment, busy at the task of physically destroying the local and global environment, along with millions of old and out of print books for AI training purposes. The law, as we can imagine, has nothing to say about that.

Rockwell Land’s Profit Jumps Almost 28% On Residential And Leasing Gains

Rockwell Land, the company behind the high-end Rockwell Center and the Alabang Town Center (ATC), saw its profit jump almost 28% on residential and leasing gains, according to a news report by BusinessWorld.

ROCKWELL LAND Corp. reported a 27.6% increase in attributable net income to P4.73 billion for 2025 from P3.71 billion in 2024, driven by higher residential revenues, growth in leasing income, and gains from the acquisition and consolidation of Alabang Commercial Corp. (ACC).

Total consolidated revenues rose 3.9% to P20.87 billion from P20.09 billion a year earlier, with residential sales accounting for about 75% of revenues, while commercial leasing contributed around 21%, the company said in its annual report released on Wednesday.

Residential revenues increased by 5% on higher project completion, while retail and leasing income grew 6% due to improved rental rates and occupancy.

Earnings were also supported by “the gain on the acquisition and consolidation of ACC” and increased contributions from affiliates.

Expenses rose during the period, with selling expenses increasing 9% due to higher sales bookings and project completions, while interest expense went up 11% on higher borrowing costs and loan balances.

Cost of real estate declined by 5%, partly offsetting the increase in expenses, while interest income fell 18% due to lower returns on contract receivables and short-term placements.

Income before tax rose to P6.72 billion from P5.30 billion in 2024. Provision for income tax increased to P1.41 billion, bringing net income to P5.31 billion for the year.

Reservation sales jumped 62% to P25.3 billion, driven by “strong demand for newly launched projects.”

"Some First Nation Chiefs are victims of shenanigans, not unlike the swindle behind the purchase of Manhattan. The federal government needs the support of #Indigenous peoples to expand nuclear power generation capacity in #Canada.

"For millennia, the cornerstones of the Indigenous people that inhabit Turtle Island, now known as North America, held all that is essential to life, in reverence. Every decision considered the next 7 generations. These cornerstones are crumbling.

"Newcomers, armed with the #Colonizing tool, 'The #DoctrineOfDiscovery' and their mentality of superiority, invaded the land of those they called 'Savages,' almost totally exterminating #Skicinuwok, People of The Earth.

"Determined to bestow Christianity and civility to this wild untamed population, old growth forests were cut, rivers and streams were dammed to power sawmills, roads and railroads were built, bridges erected. All to create an infrastructure for #capitalism, a system to make a #profit, that morphed into #greed, a word of foreign root. This unbridled desire for progress has ruined what was once called Paradise.

"So-called '#GreenEnergy' is required to slow the blind drive to extinction of man; man, who is considered by some to be the most intelligent creature to ever roam Earth. Unfortunately, the lure of riches and the corruption of self-serving purposes have led man to stray from practices that nurture everything required to sustain life on this tiny blue marble floating through the universe.

"#NuclearPower is now being touted as being 'Green.' It is not. Big money corporations are lobbying legislators to convince them and the public that it is. They are also lobbying to convince the public that they should foot the bill in the form of taxes and rate hikes, for a process that pollutes from the day it starts. Water is life. As soon as #uranium is mined from the earth it begins to contaminate the water in surrounding aquifers.

"When the uranium is processed sufficiently, it is used as fuel for reactors where it generates heat while delivering electricity, not just for essential needs, but also for many things once considered luxuries. This fission generated heat is then dumped into nearby waters where it kills thousands, if not millions of small beings that form the basis of life itself.

"After this radioactive fuel is depleted, it is stored in various containers where it will stay radioactive for eons. Indigenous #Grandmothers have labelled it 'Forever Dangerous.'

"The power generated during the fission process benefits only those who exist today as the process occurs, not those born tomorrow or next week or next month. All the #RadioactiveWaste and the inherent danger it creates is left to future generations, kicking the can down the road.

"What better place to dump this waste than in an area with a population that has witnessed Newcomers enrich themselves for hundreds of years? Yes, what better place than a population that has been targeted for assimilation, suffered theft of lands, witnessed the taking of naturally bestowed rights? A population that has been subjected to racial Indian Act legislation essentially stripping away all that sustained this population for thousands of years.

"Yes, let us give the Indians some more shiny beads and trinkets so that they willingly agree to care for our radioactive garbage. How do we do this? Let’s talk to the Chief and Council. Let’s wine and dine them. Let’s give them some money, take them to dinner, buy some drinks and make them feel all festive and most of all make them think we are looking out for their best interests. Some Chiefs have taken the bait.

"Egregious as it may be, this is exactly what is happening in some Indigenous communities contrary to the will of the majority. Elected Chiefs are continuing the deception as they are blinded and professing the 'Nuclear is Green' mantra. They have lost connection with the Spirit of Ancestors and traditional values. They need to have a serious introspection and realize that looking forward, we need only look back at what has sustained us to this point in time. We need not do any more than that."

#Degrowth and the Unmaking of #Capitalism

"Our societies are facing multiple interconnected challenges, which include #ClimateEmergency, an unprecedented loss of #biodiversity, growing #inequality and #PlasticPollution. What connects these challenges is the underlying capitalist economic model, which prioritizes #profit-making over #wellbeing and requires endless #EconomicGrowth simply to stay afloat.

"Degrowth offers an alternative vision – it is a project of urgent and fundamental transformation. Degrowth requires reimagining our societies from the perspective of being profit-centred to being wellbeing-centred. This approach distinguishes degrowth from other, more compromising visions of transformation, such as ‘green growth’. But how can society transition towards degrowth?

"One idea that has become prominent in thinking about such a transition is that of ‘#decolonization of the imaginary’, a concept developed by Serge Latouche. This concept signals the need for a disruption of taken-for-granted ways of seeing the world, and their associated practices, rules and social norms. Decolonization of the imaginary questions deeply rooted beliefs about who we are, how we live, and about our place in this world. Are we merely self-interested individuals or are we also care-oriented members of communities? To what extent do technology and #consumption contribute to human wellbeing? Does our constantly expansive economy threaten human communities and the natural world?

"Decolonization of the imaginary has been an inspirational idea for scholars and activists alike. Yet, it alone seems to be insufficient to take us to fully grasping the depth of disruptions of capitalism that have been produced by initiatives such as transition towns, #permaculture farms, and #RepairCafes. Decolonization of the imaginary emphasises the symbolic dimensions of social change but it underplays the material dimensions of such change. It is also usually understood as an end point, and hence fails to help us to recognize – and learn about – what happens along the way.

"How can we think about the processes by which disruptions of capitalism occur in broader, deeper and more dynamic ways? Is it possible for us to better capture what is going on in concrete initiatives?

"In a recent article, Giuseppe Feola proposes that we think about the disruption of capitalism in terms of ‘#unmaking’. He suggests that an unmaking of capitalism is not only necessary, but possibly pre-conditional for a transformation of the magnitude and nature required by degrowth. ‘Unmaking’ refers to individual or collective actions of disengagement or active deconstructions of existing capitalist systems that ‘make space’ for alternatives. Such actions could take the form of a personal decision to limit consumption or to quit a high-paying job at an #OilCorporation. Unmaking can also be recognized in a #CommunityFarm that refuses to submit to market pressure to expand production and instead turns to a #CommunitySupported model to sustain itself."
