His own party is at last clueing in on just how bad #MarkCarney is on #ClimateChange (and he's just as bad on #Privatization and YOUR RIGHTS). Contact your MP. Tell them to join these 14 in asking for better. It's the right thing to do. #cdnpoli

  8. Post by Stephen Punwasi:

🇨🇦: Found a new example of Canada Post intentionally being destroyed by Gov.

🇨🇦 sold its in-house tech firm (Innovapost) to Deloitte, so it had to outsource to a 🇺🇸 firm for tariff remits.

That adds over 10% to tariff costs when you pick Canada Post instead of anyone else.

  25. Thanks to the dopey (or corrupt) politicians who sold Aotearoa's publicly-owned in 1990 to US corporations (Bell Atlantic and Ameritech), we almost ended up with 2 parallel landline infrastructures. Fortunately a subsequent government fixed that, breaking up Telecom NZ into a retail company (Spark) and an infrastructure company (Chorus).

  28. "Trump officials planned to let artificial intelligence software developed by one of Elon Musk’s deregulatory foot soldiers undertake “regulation extermination” and even write new federal statutes, according to newly released government documents reviewed exclusively by the Lever.

The documents reveal for the first time how the AI program was pitched to government employees and trained to target certain regulations to boost President Donald Trump’s pro-business deregulation agenda.

According to the records, “SweetREX,” an AI tool developed by a Musk acolyte, was programmed to identify and eliminate rules that imposed costs on private enterprises, limited business innovation, or used race-based classifications, among other criteria. Using such parameters for guidance, the program could also process more than a hundred thousand public comments in less than half an hour.

“The documents reveal, for the first time, the shortcuts this AI tool takes when deciding whether a regulation is legally required and whether its burdens outweigh benefits to the public,” said Daniel McGrath, senior oversight counsel at the legal advocacy group Democracy Forward, which obtained the records through a Freedom of Information Act request."

„Representatives for Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace” have held discussions with state-owned Dubai #multinational DP World about managing supply chains and other #infrastructure projects in Gaza, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday, citing three people familiar with the matter.“

  31. "Sadly, Patrick’s story is not an anomaly. Last year, Caroline Tito was receiving treatment at Mater Hospital, a private hospital in Nairobi, when she passed away. As a result, her two sons, in college at the time, were orphaned. Upon her death, the hospital presented the sons a medical bill of Ksh. 3,315,784 (around $25,000), which they could not afford. As a result, the hospital detained their mother’s body for nearly two months, with the medical bill further accumulating every day. Eventually the High Court stepped in and ordered the release of the body.

A report from Oxfam also found another private hospital, Nairobi Women’s Hospital, “regularly imprisoned patients until their bills were paid. One newborn baby was reportedly held for at least three months, and a schoolboy for eleven months. Bodies of those who have died have been held for up to two years.” The Nairobi Women’s Hospital receives funding from the World Bank through its funding arm, the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

“From our perspective, the profit drive is taking priority over patient well-being,” Linda Oduor-Noah, health policy lead at Oxfam International, told Jacobin. “The research we and others have produced shows IFC client hospitals, particularly those funded via financial intermediaries, involved in a range of egregious practices and human rights violations, including patient detentions, overcharging or price rigging, unnecessary treatments, labor concerns, denial of emergency care, fraud and failures of corporate governance, among other concerns.”"
