There are no minutes of any meeting where this new anti-open-source guidance was discussed. Lends credence to the suggestion that a non-technical manager made this up on the hoof.

All other requests denied on security grounds.

  10. As Nina Radulovic argues new Health Secretary, James Murray 'faces a clear choice. He can continue with privatisation and reactive policymaking, or he can begin rebuilding the NHS around equitable access & democratic control'!

Sadly, as he seems already to have picked up Wes Streeting's stance on the Resident Doctors, this hope of (and argument for) a necessary reset of the NHS' political economy looks unlikely (although I'd happily be proved wrong).

  15. In just under three weeks tie the Resident Doctors will be on strike again, unless the new Secretary of Health, James Murray can (re)build bridges.... oh wait a minute, the strike was called *after* RD representatives met him.

Oh well, perhaps he will busy himself in the next two weeks building those bridges.... oh no, hold on; he's also said he's unwilling to negotiate on pay.

So just more of the same stand-off then...

  21. Seems a good day to remind people in the UK that #WesStreeting’s first public event after being elected then made health minister in 2024 was to speak at the #TonyBlairInstitute’s conference on AI and the #NHS. digitalhealth.net/2024/07/wes-

At the time I decided to read the TBI policy paper on AI given that it was being used as a blueprint for some of Starmer’s government and was blown away at how bad it was. It was obvs co-authored with an AI company. It recognised there were a few problems with AIs - making mistakes and hallucinating - but suggested the answer was just more AI to to check the AI.

Anyway, the idea that a war criminal turned AI lobbyist is saying the UK doesn’t have enough growth because it’s not letting US AI firms rip up regulatory safeguards really shouldn’t be headline news.

  27. New bus stop further away from hospital entrance, worse for passengers but better for motorists, so local newspaper reports it uncritically as a good thing. New two-hourly orbital bus route mentioned, but removal of through tickets not. We're not even trying for a healthy borough any more, are we?
