#Transport for Greater #Manchester is working with Stockport Council on a business case to extend #Metrolink from East #Didsbury to #Stockport, with the first stage due to be submitted to the Department for #Transport in 2026. As part of the plans, an underused rail line through Denton is being examined for a possible tram-train link, which could connect Stockport with Tameside and Manchester Airport. Local leaders, including Mayor Andy Burnham and MPs Andrew Gwynne and Navendu Mishra, say the proposals could significantly improve connectivity and support economic growth. Construction of the core extension could begin by the end of the decade, subject to approvals and funding. The work forms part of Greater Manchester’s wider ambition to expand the UK’s largest light rail network and deliver a more integrated transport system.
