  7. Several Las Piñas Residents Join Government Service Caravan

Recently in the City of Las Piñas City, almost two thousand local residents availed of the free services and assistance offered by the Handog ng Pangulo caravan held at the Aguilar Sports Complex, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. Mayor April Aguilar and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Don Artes were present.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the Manila Bulletin news report. Some parts in boldface…

About 2,000 residents flocked to the Aguilar Sports Complex in Las Piñas City on Monday, Sept. 14, to avail of free government services and assistance offered during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s birthday celebration.

One of the crowd-drawing activities was the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) eco-TINGIndahan by Lola Daisy, where residents exchanged garbage and recyclable materials for grocery items.

The MMDA also deployed its Mobile Materials Recovery Facility to support the waste-for-groceries exchange.

MMDA Chairman Don Artes, representing Marcos at the event, encouraged residents to learn more about government programs that could help improve their families’ livelihood and future.

Mayor April Aguilar expressed her appreciation to the MMDA and other government agencies for bringing their programs and services to Las Piñas residents.

The service caravan, dubbed “Handog ng Pangulo, Serbisyong Sapat para sa Lahat,” featured assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Health, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Department of Trade and Industry, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, and Department of Migrant Workers and Department of Justice, in coordination with the Philippine National Police.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: If you are a resident of Las Piñas City, do you know anyone who attended the caravan?

  9. Sustainable gardening isn't about the "eco" label on a flimsy pot. It’s about longevity, material science, and protecting your soil ecosystem from microplastics. Invest in infrastructure, not accessories. Read the full guide here 👇

  10. Natural materials like wood and metal change over time. Corten steel develops a rust patina; cedar turns silver-grey. This isn't damage; it's character. Buy planters that age with elegance, not ones that demand perfection. 🍂🖤

  11. Urban Gardening Training in Las Piñas City Ongoing

Recently in the City of Las Piñas City, the urban gardening training program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) was launched and already hundreds of local residents are getting trained, according to a news report by the Manila Bulletin.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the Manila Bulletin news report. Some parts in boldface…

Five hundred Las Piñas residents are taking part in a 20-day Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) training program on growing vegetables in community gardens, an initiative aimed at helping families put food on the table while opening opportunities for added income.

The residents are participating in Project LAWA at BINHI, a DSWD cash-for-training program implemented in partnership with the city government.

The training focuses on proper techniques for planting and caring for vegetables in community gardens.

The produce can be used to supplement the food needs of participants and their communities, while excess harvests may be sold to generate additional income.

The program also covers the effects of climate change and environmental protection, including proper practices for maintaining cleanliness and order in local communities.

The Las Piñas City Social Welfare and Development Office is coordinating the program with the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) and the City Agriculture Office.

The participating city offices provide guidance on urban gardening, proper plant care, and the maintenance of community gardens.

Mayor April Aguilar thanked the DSWD and the national government for supporting programs that provide residents with practical skills that could benefit their families beyond the training period.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: If you are a resident of Las Piñas City, are you thankful that the DSWD’s urban gardening training program happened within the city? Do you know anyone who is getting trained in the said program?

  12. Want a heavy stone planter on a renter’s balcony? Don’t risk structural damage or lease violations. Place the soil in a lightweight HDPE nursery pot, then nest it inside a beautiful, empty outer shell. 🏠🔑

    #sustainability #greenliving #guide #urbangardening

  13. For the purist. Modern mixes trap CO2 during curing (net zero impact!). Plus, their high thermal mass keeps roots cool in summer heat. Warning: They are heavy. Calculate your load before buying! 🧱❄️

    #sustainability #greenliving #guide #urbangardening

  14. The ultimate high-rise solution. Made from post-consumer plastics, these mimic stone or wood but are virtually indestructible. They won’t crack in winter or fade in summer. Essential for weight-conscious balconies. 🏙️♻️

Was will man mehr?

  16. Made from mushrooms and agricultural waste, these are lightweight, matte-finish beauties. They aren’t “buy it for life,” but when they die, you crumble them into your compost. Zero waste, fully biodegradable. 🍄✨

    #sustainability #greenliving #guide #urbangardening

  17. When standard plastic planters hit UV light, they photodegrade. They don’t disappear; they break into microscopic particles that wash into your food system. If you grow herbs or tomatoes in degrading pots, you’re eating the plastic. 🧪🥗

    #sustainability #greenliving #guide #urbangardening

  18. Your $20 plastic planter is failing you. It fades, warps, and sheds microplastics directly into your soil. 🚫🌱 Time to stop replacing and start "Heirloom Gardening." 👇

  21. Been a rough year for the little balcony garden thus far, but I still get to make a couple jars of my favourite condiments. Garlic dill hot pepper rings (for sandwiches) and a fermented hot sauce (this year it's roasted green chilis & garlic with fresh coriander, parsley, and basil). About a month and a half left in the usual growing season, so hopefully there's still quite a bit more to come!

  22. Tomaten nachreifen lassen:
