  1. So Gatton Park, the big new private park in downtown Lexington, is closing the Town Branch Trail, a major bike path that connects downtown to the distillery district, again. I was told that during the park's design phase, the city told them they expected the trail to be open 24/7/365.

    But there was no official agreement or requirement for this and so far the park has continually closed this major bike network connection anytime they hosted a concert. They must have read my complaint email from last time because this is the first time I've seen a "detour," and it's a terrible one.

    First that portion of Main St. has no bike lanes. It's a 4 lane road (one section 5 if you count the street parking) and a cyclist would have to then make a left. I wouldn't do that on a regular day, let alone with a ton of concert traffic around. I imagine the sidewalks will also be crowded.

    It's even more insulting because their marketing materials repeatedly talk about how they connect to 22 miles of _uninterrupted_ bike and pedestrian paths. This is from their posted "Inclusion Plan"

    It even includes survey results showing that most respondents visit public places in Lexington for "Physical activities like biking, walking." Elsewhere on their site they highlight the Bassett Path of Service, their portion of the trail, and how it's a key trailhead: gattonpark.org/park-features/b

    Could you imagine the outcry if a private entity closed a major street every other weekend to host a private event? Hell even when we have parades the sidewalks are open. It's frankly insulting that the park does this so regularly and has ignored complaints. Not very neighborly of them.

    Oh and this is all on "public" land. Land acquired via eminent domain and then given to the pseudo-public Lexington Convention Center, who I believe still own it. I guess it's a land lease or something? But it's still public land at the end of the day, at least de jure.

  6. ICYMI Mpho Matispa is an architect and thinker from Johannesburg whose work reimagines Black urbanism and African mobility — not as crisis, but as creative, city-making practice. The conversation moves from hair salons as spaces of care and resistance, to colonial extraction of time, to what a "distributed university" might look like beyond elite institutions.

    Rich, rigorous, and food for thought

  9. Evening #biketooter have you heard about Upride? upride.cc/

    A global site for uploading videos of all the close passes we #cyclists #bikecommuters experience.

    Might be useful to send to local governments when they get the inkling to paint a "bike lane" on a arterial road or remove a protected lane so less people can commute and more cars can idle.

    If you are a cyclist who has to deal with drivers, get some cameras.

  14. You thought the bollards were there to keep cars off the bike path. But the secret urbanist agenda is to make space for other types of cars.

  15. The people who complain about Low Traffic Neighbourhoods want to drive their cars at the expense of other people's lives...and they feel that's a democratic right for some reason.

  20. 📣 REV:EU lunch webinar – learn more about urine diversion!

    REV:EU is a Driving Urban Transition project, focusing on the role of source-separating wastewater systems to redesign urban water supply chains. Within REV:EU three cities are cooperating on reshaping urban water management: Stockholm, Paris and Oslo.

    📅 On May 28, 2026, at 12:00 CEST we host the second REV:EU lunch webinar. During this webinar we will focus on why urine diversion is of interest in city developments. You will hear about

    - What is urine diversion and why Paris is implementing it;
    - Effects at the wastewater treatment plant when urine is removed;
    - Costs of urine diversion compared with other nitrogen removal approaches in Norway.

    We look forward to welcoming you to an inspiring lunch break, advancing the knowledge on source-separating wastewater systems in three European cities.
    Please, share this invite with your colleagues, your networks and to anyone you think would be interested in joining!
