  1. A side project I've been working on: A map of bike and pedestrian collisions in Lexington, KY in 2025: projects.blakeshall.com/bike-p

Still needs some polish, but it's mostly done. I'm not a designer by any means. Once I have the design pinned down I plan on expanding it to cover more years.

  6. So Gatton Park, the big new private park in downtown Lexington, is closing the Town Branch Trail, a major bike path that connects downtown to the distillery district, again. I was told that during the park's design phase, the city told them they expected the trail to be open 24/7/365.

But there was no official agreement or requirement for this and so far the park has continually closed this major bike network connection anytime they hosted a concert. They must have read my complaint email from last time because this is the first time I've seen a "detour," and it's a terrible one.

First that portion of Main St. has no bike lanes. It's a 4 lane road (one section 5 if you count the street parking) and a cyclist would have to then make a left. I wouldn't do that on a regular day, let alone with a ton of concert traffic around. I imagine the sidewalks will also be crowded.

It's even more insulting because their marketing materials repeatedly talk about how they connect to 22 miles of _uninterrupted_ bike and pedestrian paths. This is from their posted "Inclusion Plan"

It even includes survey results showing that most respondents visit public places in Lexington for "Physical activities like biking, walking." Elsewhere on their site they highlight the Bassett Path of Service, their portion of the trail, and how it's a key trailhead: gattonpark.org/park-features/b

Could you imagine the outcry if a private entity closed a major street every other weekend to host a private event? Hell even when we have parades the sidewalks are open. It's frankly insulting that the park does this so regularly and has ignored complaints. Not very neighborly of them.

Oh and this is all on "public" land. Land acquired via eminent domain and then given to the pseudo-public Lexington Convention Center, who I believe still own it. I guess it's a land lease or something? But it's still public land at the end of the day, at least de jure.

  8. Planning on making the jump to Android after years on iOS. But damn there’s a lot of models to slog through. Also wondering if I should wait until the fall when new releases come out to see if there is anything worthwhile but more likely wait for the last year model price drops.
