Recently I got a new bike / bicycle, and my commute has been improved massively.

Who knew that when you do not use your pedaling power to generate noises, rattle the chain and generate friction heat that the drive would become better?

⬛ All moaning about the behaviour of operators of motor vehicles is negated and muted for the next 24 hours, since I encountered not one but two grown men, in short order, riding in the opposite direction to me on the airport perimeter cycle path, both dressed all in black, with no lights, in the gloaming of a rainy September dawn, and lost in the dazzle of oncoming motor vehicle lights. #BikeCommute

Car didn't start today so threw the foldable e-bike in to wifey's car to work and then rode home after.

As compared to when I commute on the road bike, surprisingly only saved 5-6 minutes but the effort was way lower. The e-bike makes handling uphills a breeze! It was nice to get to ride while still giving the legs a bit of a rest.

It's rather warm here. I got my jersey and SPF50 armies wringing wet under the tap before I left. By 6km / 16 minutes, everything had dried. Bike computer showing 34-36C. At least the would-be headwind had abated from the morning. #BikeCommute

We haven’t been doing much night riding lately. After biking in to town to pick up a Father's Day card for two special dads, we have a fresh memory of one of our favorite things about night riding: There are usually far fewer cars on the roads!

Another favorite thing: Being prepared to easily take theft-prone items in with us when we went inside the card store, thanks to having an Ortlieb Vario Lite hybrid backpack-bicycle bag. Having that terrific bag is only because of the kind generosity of Jeff Scully, Ortlieb USA LLC, who donated it in 2025 as part of a thoughtful care package of Ortlieb products, in support of our direct outreach by bike. https://bikemonterey.org/about/financial-donations/acknowledgements-dress-up-challenge-prize-donors

Another favorite thing: The card store employee who welcomed us to bring our bike indoors. That’s especially appreciated because there’s no bike rack or well-lit, line-of-sight place to lock up.
