Finally found some time to work on my bicycle. Mounted and connected a new headlight (haven't tried in the dark yet), replaced the gear cable and housing (shifting is still a bit tough, but I can't remember if it was always like that or not), and finally gave it a quick wash. Can't wait to go for a ride, but I should get a rear light as well before giving bike commuting a shot.

Its officially the start of the autumnal sweater migration season. The joyous days when it's too cold in the morning to bike without a sweater or jacket and so hot in the afternoon that I forget to take the sweater or jacket home at night.

Woke up at 3:30! this morning to heavy rain. I'd left the #RadRunner outside the new apartment, so I threw on the dressing gown and brought it indoors, parking it on the stairs (I'm the only one who has access to the stairs)

Cyclist rant:
Dear drivers, if a cyclist is not in a 'cycle lane' (behind a painted line in the gutter) its because the 'cycle lane' is unsafe.If the cyclist is in 'your lane' (the road) next to a traffic island, (now here's the important bit), DONT FUCKING TRY AND PASS THEM.
a human life is worth more than 5 seconds of 'inconvenience'.

That’s 2022 work finished. A year of challenges. The biggest was one I set for myself. I chose to reduce my carbon footprint by riding to work. I hadn’t been on a bike since high school but undaunted I picked up a 2nd hand hybrid bike. 16kg of bike plus panniers, loaded with a ‘gaming’ laptop (big screen, big battery and charger), lunch and a change of clothes.
I started out on bike paths and back roads, got a puncture on a trial run that lead to an ongoing series of punctures over the first 6 weeks of term. I wasn’t sure if this cycling thing was going to work out.
I kept at it, getting more used to the roads and sought smoother and shorter routes. I soon found that #perthdrivers don’t like to share the roads so I picked up #cycliq front & rear cameras. I switched to a backpack for better aero and bought a road bike.
I rode 5769 km this year, 4k of that on the hybrid. Not bad for not riding since high school.
I saved 1.6t of CO2 from not driving to work & gained a firsthand experience of how car centric culture kills cities & communities. I did this to see if I could, I won’t go back to car centric life and happy to champion transit solutions that are for the many and not the few.

A street #googlemaps will tag as having a dedicated bike lane definately doesnt mean its safe to ride on.
The road pictured has painted sections that Im guessing are for no parking, they certainly arent wide enough to be considered a bike lane.

Right now I’m layering up under a Giro road helmet, which is fine but with limited visibility.
