  1. #Apple #iPhones have a bug causing some of them to randomly make outgoing calls to random people in the Contacts list, usually while the phone is unused in the middle of the night!

Sounds funny, until YOUR phone starts doing it. Its a terrible problem. First and second level Apple support people (understandably) want to treat it as either a mistaken touch to the phone, or malfunctioning touchscreen. However, pushed hard enough, they will admit that this is a problem beyond a simple malfunction, reported in many iphones, and they have not found the cause.

It happens mostly in phones that the user has decided they don't want to deal with a passcode, or face ID to open the phone. Currently the only "work around" Apple has, is to suggest adding a passcode to your phone, as they think it will be unable to dial out if its passcode locked.

    IT SUCKS.

  2. Good morning. ⏰🫘☕

We received our new iPhones via UPS yesterday evening, and I spent last night getting mine set up. The process is simple enough, but it still makes me feel like a rocket scientist once everything finally transfers over. It’s mostly time‑consuming because the phone has to download every app I use — and I use a lot. Then comes the ritual of logging into each one so it’s ready when I need it. I can never remember all my passwords, so I end up flipping through my little book of hints. I use a personal code when I write them down, so even if the book fell into the hands of someone unscrupulous, they wouldn’t be able to decipher it — and not just because my handwriting is terrible.

Our old phones were iPhone 14 Pro Maxes, perfectly good devices except for one growing annoyance: charging them became a chore. Something in the Lightning connector had worn down, and I often had to spend several minutes plugging and unplugging the cable just to get it to start charging. Annoying at best, and a real problem if we were away from home and woke up to a dead phone. Hard to imagine dealing with that in simpler times. The new iPhone 17 Pro Max uses a USB‑C port, which is far more reliable and doesn’t wear out the way the old Lightning connection did.

I still don’t have cases yet, but I ordered two from pixels.com using a couple of my photos — flowers for my wife and a Caribbean sunset for me though I'm thinking about getting one with a recent pic of flying ibises.

  7. Mashable: Older iPhones are vulnerable to a flaw Apple likely can’t fix. “The issue exists within SecureROM, the code that runs when an iPhone turns on, which is embedded in certain chips. Apple can’t fix these flaws, as the code can’t be extracted from the chips.”

  8. I dislike Android and Samsung only makes it tolerable. At least the version I'm on. I don't know what I'm going to do when I decide to move to a new phone. Hopefully Linux on phones is far enough along for my needs and pmOS Duranium is stable enough by that point. Not going to get a newer iPhone because they're all gesture-based now and I prefer the surety of a button press.
