Just watched an old SEPTA bus sign come down and new one go up. The new black one was hung a few feet lower and had way more info. Overall, as a designer I like the new updates. Check it out.

The neighbors on the dead-end street around the corner had a block party last week, so they put all the recycling and trash bins out on the corner so the trash trucks could get to them. Then they cleared them away after they were emptied.
The nice new renter next door just now asked me cautiously if I had any idea what happened to their trash can after the block party, because it had disappeared. She had clearly feared someone had stolen her trash can, out of some impersonal malevolence.
Trash cans do disappear in Philly. Sometimes the trash guys fling them whole into the hopper. Sometimes they toss them farther down the street, where they become vagrants. Sometimes strange people stare at an empty trash can with a sludge of garbage in the bottom and think to themselves, "Oooh, that's just what I need!" But mostly not.
"Did you have your address on it?" I asked her. No, she didn't. I told her whoever cleared the cans didn't know it was hers, and she should put her address on the other one in Sharpie or white paint, just like everyone else does.
The renters are from New York City, where I guess trash cans don't end up disappearing for no good reason.
I put my trash out in a bag, myself, even though it's supposed to be in a container, because the trash guys seem to prefer it that way--they just have to grab the neck and fling.
And that way my trash can doesn't end on its side down the street half over the curb. #philly

There are many, but my biggest gripe with #philly oem alerts is: no one but taxi drivers can tell where a random named intersection is. Give me a ZIP, dammit!
