Leicester city centre really is a mixed bag.I like walking down Silver Street from the park and ride stop on Jubilee Square to the Clock Tower, but the area around the Clock Tower really is unpleasant.
High Street isn't too bad but the groups of delivery riders can be difficult to get around at certain times of day.
Town Hall Square is generally pretty chilled.As you say, more trees would be a bonus, and yes, the litter!
But, for everything that gets said in the usual Facebook groups, it's far better now than when you had all the traffic and diesel fumes on Haymarket and High Street!

I finally found music by General Havoc - basically Cornershop before they moved to Leicester. They're not that different to some of the songs on the first two EPs by Cornershop (there are early versions of Moonshine and England's Dreaming)

#Leicester City Council is set to reallocate £9.95 million of #Government Levelling Up funding to help deliver a major redevelopment of Leicester #railway station, increasing total support for the project to £27.5 million. The funding will be transferred from the St Margaret’s junction scheme, which will still proceed in a revised £5.2 million form. The station plans include restoring the Grade II listed building, relocating the main entrance to Station Street, creating a pedestrianised public square, improving accessibility and expanding passenger facilities. The council hopes to appoint a development partner early next year after an earlier procurement process failed. An additional £5 million contribution from the Department for #Transport and East Midlands Railway is also being considered. A decision on the funding transfer is due on 22 July 2026.

The #NationalSpaceCentre in #Leicester has a wonderful projections room with all around floor to ceiling imagery and the floor sensitive to position and movement thus that rocks shift and ice cracks under your feet as you explore the solar system. Or indeed, if you fill the place with cosplayers, as yoj instantly strike your best poses…. I seem to have misplaced a padawan somewhere between moons…

Saturday again, and I hope you're going to have a good weekend.Here in Central England it looks like it'll be a cool, dry, bright day with a stiff breeze.
Being Saturday, I'm going to the Petanque club in Leicester's Western Park.
There's going to be a fair bit of non-playing action - the club is hosting a national competition tomorrow - the pistes need tidying up & there'll be a chef prepping food in the clubhouse kitchen.I'm thinking that I'll cycle to the club - I need the exercise and I've got tablets to collect from the pharmacy.
I'm starting to get anxious about our holiday in a couple of weeks. I just need to pack clothes because it's a cruise, but it's selecting the right mix of enough clothes - at least there's no weight limit!
The holiday weather will probably be pretty much like today, but a bit cooler.
I need exercise & sketching to de-stress.Stay cool! Be bright!

Sadly it's likely to be coordinated on Facebook.

#Cheshire and #Warrington Combined Authority, #Leicester City Council, #Oxfordshire County Council and Portsmouth City Council have joined the Urban #Transport Group (UTG), taking its membership to 19 authorities.
UTG said the additions strengthen its role as the UK’s network of transport authorities at a time of significant change in local transport policy.
The four new members are pursuing plans to improve public transport, walking and cycling, cut carbon emissions and support economic growth. Cheshire and Warrington is developing its transport function following the creation of the combined authority in February 2026. Oxfordshire is focused on reducing car dependency through an integrated, low-carbon network. Leicester is investing in bus, walking and cycling improvements, while Portsmouth is prioritising a people-centred transport system to tackle congestion and improve air quality.
UTG now has 10 Principal Members and nine Members.
