Nick Maley was a special effects make-up artist who worked on horror and sci-fi films such as Lifeforce, Highlander, the awesome Krull, and the Star Wars movies where he is closely associated with Yoda. He runs a museum of memorabilia, props, photos, storyboards, scripts, etc. and we visited today while in Phillipsburg, Sint Maarten. Nerd heaven, and we had a great chat with him too.

Today we've been in Phillipsburg on the Caribbean island shared by the Dutch and French with this being the Dutch side, Sint Maarten. Colourful street art and architecture have been the main attractions for us plus a couple of visits to museums (more on one of those in the next post) but it has been scorching today, feeling like 38 degrees. If there was a market for our sweat then we could retire.

Iran warns U.S. to stay out of fight with Israel or face attack on troops

Iran sent a message to the Biden administration through several Arab countries earlier this week: if the U.S. gets involved in the fighting between Israel and Iran, U.S. forces in the region will be attacked, three U.S. officials told Axios.

Iran has publicly vowed to "punish" Israel for the recent #assassination of Brig. Gen. Mohammad Reza #Zahedi, a top Iranian #Quds #Force #general in charge of Iran's military operations in Lebanon and Syria.

Zahedi was the most senior Islamic #Revolutionary #Guard Corps officer to be killed since the U.S. assassinated Qasem Soleimani in 2020.

The Biden administration is concerned an Iranian attack and an Israeli retaliation could lead to another serious escalation in the region.

Iran sent a message to the Biden administration through several Arab countries earlier this week and threatened that if the U.S. gets involved in the fight between Israel and Iran, U.S. forces in the region will be attacked, Axios reported.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps ( #IRGC ) announced on Saturday that it took over a commercial ship when it passed through the straight of Hormuz.

The ship, #MSC #AIRES, is partially owned by an Israeli businessman and a British company and was sailing under the flag of Portugal. It had no Israeli crew members.

"We strongly condemn the Iranian seizure of the Portuguese flagged, British-owned MSC AIRES in international waters," White House National Security Council spokeswoman #Adrianne #Watson said in a statement.

"The crew is comprised of Indian, Filipino, Pakistani, Russian & Estonian nationals. We call on Iran to release the vessel and its international crew immediately."

Watson added: "Seizing a civilian vessel without provocation is a blatant violation of international law, and an act of piracy by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization. It must be condemned unequivocally and we will work with our partners to hold Iran to account for its actions."

The U.S. and Israel have worked together in recent days to strengthen their coordination and preparedness to counter an Iranian attack, which will likely include the launch on #ballistic missiles, #cruise #missiles and attack #drones, Israeli and U.S. officials say.

Secretary of Defense #Lloyd #Austin spoke on the phone on Saturday with his Israeli counterpart #Yoav #Gallant "to discuss urgent regional threats and reiterated unwavering U.S. support for Israel's defense," the Pentagon said.

Austin made clear to Gallant that "Israel could count on full U.S. support to defend Israel against any attacks by Iran and its regional proxies."

#Gallant said in a statement after the call that Israel is "closely monitoring a planned attack by Iran and its proxies."

He stressed that in recent days Israel has strengthened its defensive and offensive capabilities.

"We have added new capabilities - on land, in the air, at sea, in our intelligence directorate, within the State of Israel and together with our partners, led by the United States," Gallant said.

"Iran is a terrorist state. We are determined to defend our citizens against this terrorism, and we will know how to respond to it."

Iran launched "hundreds" of attack drones and missiles against Israel on Saturday night local time, Israeli officials said.

It's the first time #Iran has launched an attack from its soil against #Israel.

U.S. officials are concerned that an Israeli retaliation against Iran will lead to another regional #escalation.

Iranian officials had threatened to retaliate against Israel for an airstrike in Syria last week that killed a top Iranian general.

Iran launched the drones from its territory toward Israeli territory, Israel Defense Forces spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said in a statement.

Iran's state television confirmed the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched "a wide-ranging drone strike against Israel."

The IRGC also said it "fired dozens of #cruise #missiles at specific targets inside the occupied territories."

Israel announced it was temporarily closing its airspace.

Hagari said Israel is monitoring the threat and said it would take the drones several hours to reach Israeli airspace.

A senior Israeli official says the Iranian attack includes "hundreds of attack drones."

Two Israeli officials told Axios the plan is to intercept many of the drones outside Israeli airspace with the help of the U.S. and other countries.

"Our defensive systems are deployed. We are ready for any scenario, both defensively and offensively," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.

"We have determined a clear principle: Whoever harms us, we will harm them. We will defend ourselves against any threat and will do so levelheadedly and with determination."

U.S. National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson in a statement said the White House is in "constant communication with Israeli officials as well as other partners and allies."

"This attack is likely to unfold over a number of hours. President Biden has been clear: our support for Israel's security is ironclad," the statement said.
