Also a little nervous that the top cleat screw is a risky way to get water into the piece, but also I gotta be clear this thing won’t be like, *in the rain*, just drips do happen and I am glad my toolchest has a slope because water does drip directly onto it

2. It’ll be French cleated to the concrete wall. I am nervous about screws holding the French cleat to the top of the box but I guess it’s fine? The second French cleat is connected to one of the dadoed shelves but it could go into the bottom too just fine.

3. There will be a door framing plexiglass, probably 4/4x2” oak, to prevent dust from the shop getting on the books

Planning out a new project. Would love feedback from folks here.

It’s a bookshelf to hold books in the shop. Plan is a pretty simple dovetailed box with a few little weird details.

1. the top is half blind dovetails and is sloped to allow any leaks to drip off the front rather than penetrating the piece and wetting the contents.

Did another new thing today, mixed and poured epoxy! Popping the air bubbles was the most fun part. I mixed more than I needed and it got way too hot and started smoking when the left over started curing. In the future I know to spread out left overs in a thin layer to let it cure. That's the current state of the slab, I 'm really hoping it's one of those things where it needs to look worse before it starts looking better. Up next will be a bowtie for the crack on the underside and then decide on if I want to round over the the bottoms and/or the tops of the straight edges, then legs, joinery, sanding, finish.

I've been strapped for time this week and this will be the last update for a couple weeks due to other commitments. Thanks for following along and the encouragement.

Finally got off my arse and changed the planer knives. Now I just need to fix the table saw and get new blades for the bandsaw and I'll be back up and running again.

I had the choice of making the slab narrower by an inch (2.5 cm) so it would fit in my planer. Or be like a big-time YouTube woodworker and take my piece to an industrial spot because it's so massive. I went with option 3 and took it to my friend's and it was a huge help and a good hang.

Now the slab is perfectly flat, the smaller cracks have been filled with black CA glue, the giant indent will get an expy pour within the next day so it can cure while I need to take a break from the project. But I need to stabilize the crack on the underside with a bowtie first. I have never done any of the things I just wrote in this paragraph. But checkout my practice bowtie, pretty happy with it, first time using the bandsaw for a finesse cut.

Also, because I'm not about that curated public success and private failure life; here's a photo of the messes I've made. That board glue-up was not ideal, I'd rather deal with a panel glue-up, it was sliding all over. I had the dust collector hooked up to the correct machine 50% of the time. And I decided to practice my bowtie inlay cut on plywood, knowing it was a bad idea, and didn't learn nearly as much as I could have if I just wasn't miserly about offcuts.

There was heavy rain on Saturday morning and I had water in the house. I was expecting this as I built a new terrace floor that is 4-5 cm higher than the door frames. And I am still waiting 2 more months for new insulated doors.

So I spontaneously built a partially roofed temporary pergola on Saturday.

Now the doors are covered and the house should stay dry.

I will build the final version once the doors are installed.
Using proper joints and all power tools in my shed 😎

Added plugs to fix the accidental oversized mortises. #woodworking

The rear (near) tenons will be wedged from the outside, and gently. The front (far) tenons have a kerf and will be wedged more aggressively but still not like a chair leg. #woodworking
