Oh, um, I made a thing again.
A foldable 2-step ladder made from reclaimed ash wood.

Two coats of red. Might do one more red coat, and then planning to do a very thinned black coat on top of that. #woodworking

24cm vase in cedar, teak, and ash.
The cedar comes from an old bed frame that I recuperated.
Finished with diluted tung oil and beeswax. -
🎨🛠️ Ah, the noble quest to spend 8 months #crafting a wall #lamp from scratch, because buying one at IKEA would be far too pedestrian. The great triumph of combining zero #woodworking skills with #LED #strips to create... an #art piece that occasionally lights up. 💡✨

Back to the slab build thread. Took time to declutter and make some space in the shop yesterday. All the lumber on the rack was on the floor, a lot more room for activities now, but still ways to go (strategically cropped photo).
Had to flatten the epoxy, it was my first time and it went well-ish. Mistakes were made, but I feel good about all the things I learned. When you do knowledge work all day, seeing results of your actions in the physical world is great, even if it's failure. I did some repairs with black CA glue but I'll have to take it back to my friend's planer and take an ⅛" (3 mm) off.
If you're following along still, thanks! And let me know if there's something specific you want to see. I'm not good at any of this but happy to answer questions for anyone interested in getting into woodworking. Especially if you didn't grow up around tools; I didn't, not sure if we had more than a screwdriver, if that.

Labor Day weekend activity: building boxes for LEGO storage. Designed and printed color matched handles (that fit on the first attempt!). #LEGO #3DPrinting #woodworking

Leg 3 of 5 complete.
All these legs need some filling of cracks and a couple of passes through the planer to get all the sides flat.

The crack in my homemade cutting board finally became unacceptable, so it was time to cut it out and fill in the missing piece. I used a strip of maple to give it that fancy look.
The clamping rig to keep everything aligned worked pretty well, the two sides are off by maybe 1/16 inch. But that sort of thing makes these pieces unique, right?

Someone asked how I store my lumber. Upright and in a corner, like this 😅 #woodworking

Is it worth taxing what I have left for brain cells to learn #freecad for my #woodworking hobby..?

Good #woodworking people.
I was once told that when you're gluing two pieces of MDF board together, you should first apply a thin layer of diluted glue. After a short while, you can then glue them as normal.
This is supposed to make the bond even stronger.
Is this just a myth, or is there any truth in it? -
I hope y'all enjoy; here's a tour of my shop: https://foolishwood.substack.com/p/shop-tour #woodworking

Forgot to send pics after glue up. Really pleased with how it’s coming together #woodworking

Convinced a drawer was sticking because of humidity. Investigated the slides, the frame, the alignment. It was the screwdriver I'd left in the track two months ago. Home improvement is mostly archaeology. #diy #woodworking

Tackling the bottom beam problems, one at a time. Started at the corner. Since the bottom of the dovetail was rotten, I chainsawed away a quarter of the beam and spliced in a new small beam from a convenient stash I found clearing out a crooked shack the other day.
Everything got hosed down in nasty wood preserver, supported on the usual granite wedges with lime mortar and finally some very modern large caliber wood screws to connect it to the old beam and the adjoining corner.
Some more granite wedges, moss in the gaps between beams, lime mortar on top to keep creatures out.
Then it got very late because someone poured an entire cup of hot tea over themselves 😬

Sandpaper grits run 40 to 2000. The instructions say work through them in sequence. The temptation is to jump straight to 220 and call it smooth. This is always wrong and the wood always knows. #woodworking #making

Any project confident enough to need only one hardware store trip becomes two trips. The second is always for a single item. The third is the right drill bit. This is the system. #diy #woodworking

Ok, I think I’ll glue it together now. I really wish I could have glued it together last night so that I could add the pegs this morning but so it goes. #woodworking

Work in progress, weil ich die Bücher noch außen bemalen möchte, aber es macht Spaß, die zu schnitzen.

I spent last week in #pei. Original plans had me doing couple of projects while there, but I just didn't come out of vacation mode. entire week instead was spent in laying on beach, eating lots of lobster rolls and fish & chips and in general having a grand 'ol vacation. Workshop has turned out really nice and although going from large detached home to 600sqft studio apartment will be hard, everything else about PEI makes up for it in spades. now let's hope this house sells so that I can fund build of our #foreverhome
also... one good thing that happned during my trip there... my contractor mentioned that he has a tracksaw there that he isn't using and I can use it for projects while there. turns out he had festool TS75 that he hasn't used in like decade. it was purchased for one project that required ripping 12' long sheets of speciality plywood. so now I am proud owner of festool TS75 & 2 x 75" long tracks ( FS1900/2 ). I guess I can't thumb my nose at festool youtubers anymore 🤣7/

Today I received something from #Kiyv #Ukraine, which I think is a really awesome invention. It's a #carving apron. I can even sit on the sofa and carve without making a mess. Bought on Etsy at PhurbaBladeUA: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1831573035/best-gift-for-woodcarver-woodworking

Had a long conversation with electrician today as he is starting the job of running wiring. I am going with surface mounted panel. workshop will have 200amps with another 200 amps going to the house once it's built. I will be pulling 2 cat6 cables thru conduit between home and shop. lots of outlets on the wall. each of the walls will have 2 x 220v outlets with each wall on it's own circuit. there are also 2 x 110v circuits on each wall as well.
Insulated garage door gets delivered next week.
Things are happening!#woodworking #foreverhome #pei

Workshop floor is getting poured tomorrow. So our builder's crew hustled today to insulate the floor. So far looks like workshop being ready and livable by may is going to happen. It won't get used as my workshop until main home is built year after. But I am happy for any suggestions on things you would do if this was your shop. It has full bath in back corner so I don't track sawdust in the house but other than that, it's full open 600 sqft shop.
