I've been kind of absent from here for a while. But now! A video of a very bad but very fun guitar! That I made! First one ever!
Materials:
* Galvanized steel washtub
* 2x4 (i.e., wood)
* walnut piece (fingerboard)
* fret wire
* guitar tuners
* rusty bolt
* piece of pipe from a lamp
* floor base of a different lamp
* scraper blade from oscillating tool
* bicycle chain
* luggage strap
* 1/2 inch EMT (galvanized) conduit
* thick wire from a yard sign
* piezo buzzer from some toy
* 1/4 inch female audio jack
* wire, solder, some screws, etc.(this is 5 minutes of me showing the guitar and playing some random things to show how it sounds)

I am working on a tool to be able to test out different #fret board configurations. Things like being able to move #frets around, number of #strings, #tunings, and hearing what it might sound like. Yes the #microtonal bug has bit. I'm toying with making a #24tet #cigarboxguitar.

Here's brief #audio of the #guitar. If you'd like to feel like you're in a blues bar in the olden days, except everyone is drunk and the performer is even more drunk and they don't really know how to play blues guitar and their guitar is made out of the bottom of a metal washtub, then this is your jam.

Contender for Worst #Guitar In The World. It actually sounds ok and a bit like a resonator, being made partly from a galvanized tub. I was trying to make a minimal cigar box guitar (CBG) so I could see how everything works. It took about 3 hours. There is no fretboard and the action is about an inch (250mm; It can be played with a slide, which is fun). The tailpiece is... Not optimal. The scale length is whatever. The zero fret is held on with a rubber band.
The reason I think it is a contender for Worst Guitar is that it has lots of sharp, exposed bits of sheet metal, especially in the back. It really will cut you if you aren't careful. Maybe I should have named it Tetanus.
If I get around to making a serious-attemptt CBG, of course I will post it here as a shameless attention bid.

Because I can not let glue dry...I moved to another project. This uses two #cbgitty kits, the amp and the psycho box, along with a large cigar box as the enclosure. It is better sounding than I imagined. Enclosures ftw.

Writing down the chords I've figured out so far for the theme to Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp, with my own odd tab system. Haven't figured out what all the chords are called yet, because I'm sounding it out by ear and then checking it against a poster of chords, and some of my chords aren't on the chart. #CigarBoxGuitar

Improvement to my #CigarBoxGuitar capo: substituted a vintage swizzle stick for the bolt. Less danger of damaging the fretboard, easier to attach the o-ring over that round nub. Sticks up a lot, but that's the fun of it. Will probably break, but I have dozens of thrifted swizzle sticks.

Also, found a 🔋 operated practice amp in CB's musical stuff (I think I thrifted it for her years ago) and was able to confirm the piezo⚡ 🛻 works. I could probably use it as a 🎙️ for my harmonica by pressing the harp against the guitar.

The crank shaft and wheel are now housed in a nice thick wood cigar box. I'm using #cbgitty box as the sound board and possible bottom...still figuring the sonic realities of that.
The neck is going to be at least one hardwood one with ,maybe, a fretboard. The drones are going on the sides in a as yet to be determined layout.

#Fretless. Before I fall fully into a microtonal fretboard build it probably makes sense to try something fretless to learn more about it. I was trying to figure out building an #oud but given the amount of #cbgitty parts I have now it is going to be more a 3 stringer. 4 strings put on and tuned, for now, GDG*B. The kalimba is on and semi tuned. I want it deeper, maybe a second row. Overall it makes a great resonant sound but I still need to get the springs inside and possibly some sympathetic strings. More as it happeneds.

Building a 4 string resonator guitar....with a few builds under my belt I have picked up on the cupped hand sanding technique...and since the hand sanding is going to be the one playing it the finished build glides nicely. Power sander? Having just ate dinner I am the power sander.

#cigarboxguitar No amplification, cruddy phone mic. First sounds...and the first song from @ridetheory s favorite musical acts. A few fixes on the bridge and I think it's ready to pack.
There are spots of over eager chiseling and one gaf around the neck that requires me to get a better saw if I am going to persue making more guitars. All in all a fun build.Not a sponsor but all parts were gotten from #cbgitty including the custom lid.

Home stretch for the @ridetheory #cigarboxguitar . Letting the top dry overnight. Tested the electrics and noise was made. My glue work is still not great, I need to get out of the spackle mindset. Special note on the volume knob , a tribute to #nigeltufnel . Tomorrow on to touch ups, stringing, and some tunes. Then it's off to the post.
