We extracted our last frames and got several more quarts of honey. Check out the contrast in color depth. The late spring/early summer honey on the left is light and a mix of wildflowers, clover and blooming trees. The jar on the right is late summer honey. It's dark with a mineral rich taste of sunflowers, sumac, buckwheat and blackberry/elderberry juice. Very complex but both are delicious, just different ends of the seasons.

We should all be buying our honey locally, if you can. We buy these guys from less than 30km away. It costs a bit more but it lasts a long time so, not an issue spread over months.

I finally got around to taking some more supers off the hives. I only had two double stacked but had taken one off a week ago then decided to get a hot weather jacket since it's always hot (review in ALT). I only pulled 2 more supers frame by frame since I needed to shake bees off. Have to extract some before I pull the rest. Logistic issues and someone hasn't put more medium frames together.

I purchased this tub of honey yesterday and it's got a lot of dark brown particulates in it. I'm not sure what they are at all. Is this anything you might expect to find in honey?

It doesn't look like bits of honeycomb to me, but I could be wrong. It's commercial stuff that is usually processed to the edge of its life and very clear. It is possible its a very foreign contaminant.

I've already demanded a refund from woollies, would like to figure out if maybe its fine despite this stuff in it.

Today’s #baking challenge was to make simple #biscuits . Not biscuits like the ones in the UK that I call cookies, but southern biscuits. I needed a vehicle for a delicious blackberry #honey . The simplest recipe can be the most challenging because either the texture is light and melts in the mouth or it can be tough or dry. Today was a triumph! Light as a cloud! I still need to work on my presentation though. Honey was purchased from a shop, Sticky Situations, on a trip to Pennsylvania.
