A stereo spectrogram of Antarctic blue whale vocalisations, recorded in the southwestern Indian Ocean. Each in the series of calls starts at a frequency of approximately 27 Hz, before gradually swooping downward to about 18 Hz.

This stereo track is a rendering of the 3 components of the motion of the seafloor at a 4.264 km depth. The seismograms were recorded on 31 May 2013, from 12.30 to 13.00 GMT, by the ocean-bottom seismic station RR43 of the RHUM-RUM network (27.53S, 65.58E) (Dréo, R. 2018).

By tapping the replica and recording its vibrations with accelerometers, they measured its natural frequencies, mode shapes, and loss factors. The replica’s tuning closely matched ideal Western church bell ratios.
