  1. I went straight from there to Morris Shoe Repair in #Allston. They said it would be only $100 to both recondition the jacket and re-dye the road salt stains.
Would The Designers have done a better job? Maybe, who knows. Would it have been a >3x better job than Morris? Probably not.

  2. I called around today to find a place to recondition my leather jacket, which became all "lumpy" after getting soaked through in a storm.
I found designerleatherclothes.com. I called them and asked if they could do it. They said bring it in for them to look at. I brought it in. They said $350. I said that's more than I paid for it. They said, OK, how about $325. I said still more than I paid for it, no thanks.

  3. Do you know what's awesome? [Narrator: it is not, in fact, awesome]
When the city of #BostonMA sends you a motor vehicle excise tax bill in April, and you send them back paperwork indicating that the car in question was donated to charity in March, and they ignore that and send you another bill in August. 😡
I have emailed my city councilor asking for help. Hopefully her office can get this fixed.

  5. Friends, this is the time of year when I remind you that #BostonMA always needs poll-workers. You don't need to live in #Boston to be one, you just need to be a registered voter in #Massachusetts. Democracy doesn't work without elections, and elections don't work without poll-workers, so please consider signing up. Start at boston.gov/pollworker if you might be interested.

  6. RE: federate.social/@jik/116897256

I had the other half of my #BostonMA #pollWorker training this evening, and they gave us a bit more information about what their expectations and plans are vis à vis federal agents showing up at the polls on election day.
    • "This is all a hypothetical, we don't have any concrete reason to expect that federal agents will show up."
    • It's very important for the clerk to document everything that's happening in the clerk's book.

  7. The #CharlesRiver #CommunityGarden in #AllstonMA helped me to cope when I lived in the city. While I didn't have a plot, I still enjoyed the #GreenSpace and it helped ground and calm me. I hope it stays around for many, many more years!

    History of our Garden

"The Charles River Community Garden, #CRCG, was established in 1979/80 by Julie Hensler, who could not find an available plot in the Herter Garden. She contacted the Dept of Food and Agriculture community gardening program and was told there was land further upstream. She rounded up 20 friends and they staked out a 60’ x 40’ garden and turned the soil. It was then divided into 10’ x 20’ plots. Adjacent to the CRCG was the #BostonFoodCoop Small #VictoryGarden. In 1985-86 Julie and her husband took a year off to travel around the world, giving the work of Garden Coordinator to two gardeners who failed to do the job. The garden appeared abandoned and the Dept of Agriculture threatened to terminate the lease. 'Julie called all of the garden members from 1984: many had moved, some had just given up. The list of active gardeners was only about half a dozen people. Everywhere Jule went she tried to convince people to join the garden. Those who joined took 2, 3 or even 4 plots to keep the garden running. The effort was successful, and the garden got approval from the Dept of Agriculture to continue.' In 1996 the two gardens merged under Sue Wymelenberg, who secured funds for the fence and formed the Garden Council. Sue was succeeded by Peter Burns."

  8. List of #BostonMA #CommunityGardens

"Our 56 community gardens —totaling 15 acres across eight Boston neighborhoods—are tended and cared for by local residents. These oases of green are sources of neighborhood pride that connect people and place. They turn neighbors into friends, strengthen family bonds and traditions, and inspire joy in the shared work of growing fresh, healthy, and delicious food."
