Wij krijgen mails van diverse Repair Cafés met vragen hoe een Linux Inloop op te zetten.

Houd er rekening mee dat zo'n service veel meer behelst dan alleen maar een stick in een PC steken, dan #LinuxMint installeren, en de klant weg te sturen. Onze ervaring is dat onze klanten vaak later terugkomen met vragen over problemen (als ze niet alsnog een nieuwe Windows-PC kopen).

Een heel klein aantal komt met overtuiging om uitsluitend FOSS te gebruiken, de meerderheid komt met een zeer oude bak, of met een hopeloos vastgelopen Windows-systeem. Die laatste groep kan trouwens uitstekend geholpen worden met een Linux installatie. Een actie als de #EndOf10 campagne alleen zal niet veel mensen bewegen over te stappen; ik zie genoeg mensen die nog steeds Windows7 gebruiken en niet over te halen zijn.

Toch is het toe te juichen als jouw club ook een Linux initiatief gaat beginnen. Maar dan heb je echt een staf nodig die verstand van Linux heeft, en de nodige extra ondersteuning aan de klanten kan geven.

Voor installeren van Linux is nodig:

Basiskennis hebben over Linux
Kennis over de verschillende Distro's hebben, de klant erover voorlichten door met live-distro's demonstraties geven op de PC van de klant.
(Debian of RedHat familie, Gnome- KDE- MATE- Xfce-desktop)
In staat zijn de hardware eigenschappen te achterhalen. (CPU, GPU, Memory, Disk, 64 of 32 bit)
In staat zijn de PC te starten vanaf USB-stick en de BIOS aan te passen
Kennis hebben over disk-partitionering en eventueel een double-boot omgeving aan te leggen
Naar wens van de klant de nodige configuraties aanpassen
Uitleg geven over de toepassingen op het nieuwe systeem
Voorlichting over updates installeren, back-ups maken ed.
(Voor de laatste punten misschien wel een cursus geven)
Maak duidelijk dat er een zeer beperkte aansprakelijkheid geldt

Voor de vervolgservice voor nieuwe Linux gebruikers is nodig:

Ook tussendoor hulp geven, want je kunt een klant niet 3 weken laten wachten als bv. het netwerk het opeens niet meer doet.
Installeer hiervoor RustDesk
Kunnen installeren van updates en dist-upgrades
Wat te doen als het systeem niet meer opstart
Wat te doen als de systeem-schijf 100% vol is
Wat te doen als het wachtwoord 'het niet meer doet'
Kennis over beveiliging, wachtwoorden, virussen, encryptie, indringers, firewall etc
Voorlichting geven over extra software vinden, installeren en gebruiken
Propriety software gebruiken zoals WhatsApp, Zoom, Chrome-browser. (Klant overtuigen de FOSS alternatieven te gaan gebruiken)
Voorlichting over thuis printer aansluiten en Wifi instellen
Een doos hebben met gereedschap, diverse kabels, switch, beeldscherm, toetsenbord, muis, SATA naar USB, en wat nog meer
