Das #RepairCafé in #Friedberg gibt es nächste Woche wieder (Donnerstag, 17. 09., 17:00 Uhr), aber Ihr könnt uns auch schon dieses Wochenende beim Hands-On! Ehrenamtstag 2026 besuchen.
Zusammen reparieren werden wir da nicht, aber informieren, demonstrieren, diskutieren, lamentieren, gratulieren, inspirieren, initiieren geht immer.
Und Kuchen gibt es natürlich auch.

One volunteer might be fixing a lamp, another patching someone’s favourite jeans, while nearby a bike gets tuned up and someone learns a new sewing skill over a cup of tea.
Our volunteer repairers help give broken, damaged, and well-loved items a second chance. It’s also a chance to learn new skills, build community connections, and share conversations with others."

Martin Langlinderer, Gründer des Repair Salon in Böblingen, hat gestern beim Summer Camp der Offenen Werkstätten zur Reparatur von Großgeräten referiert. Jährlich werden allein in Deutschland 3 Millionen Waschmaschinen weggeworfen, die i.d.R. sehr leicht durch Tausch einzelner Bauteile von unter 500g Gewicht repariert werden können. Mal sehen, ob ich da mit meinen Handy und IT Hilfen für ältere Menschen ( oder andere, die Hilfe brauchen) einen Platz finde.
Vorteil wäre: ich muss wenig organisieren, stehe im Auftrag der Gemeinde und muss keinen Verein gründen oder so was+ Räume kommen umsonst von denen.Ich werde def.um Hilfe anderer hier fragen für gute Flyer/Material für die Leute.

I forgot to mention: if you're in the #YQR / Regina area, tomorrow (Saturday 8 August 2026) is the #Regina Repair Cafe for this month. It's at the Victoria Square Mall, so lots of parking. It runs 10am - 4pm.
If you have stuff that is not working or broken, there's a good chance one of us volunteers can fix it for you. And it's free! We help keep stuff from ending up in the landfill before its time, and save you the expense of having to replace it.
And yes, we fix stuff you can't get fixed "professionally" because no one fixes small appliances and whatnot any more, because everyone says "Just buy a new one, it's cheaper". Not everyone can afford to "just" replace stuff, and there's the whole environment thing.
I guess we're adding a fourth "R" to the circle of life: reduce, re-use, repair, recycle.
I'm just a volunteer, not an organizer or official publicist or anything like that. But come down and say "Hi".

Today was this month's Repair Cafe in my city. I think it also marks a full year I've been volunteering at them. I enjoy it a lot.
After last months good results - everything brought to me successfully fixed *except* one item - I got exactly the same result today. A bunch of successes, and one failure. And it's a weird and annoying coincidence - they are basically the same thing, #Sony all-in-one bookshelf #stereo systems. You know the type, they're on the order of a cubic foot and look like a small stack of stereo equipment units, but it's just a cosmetic look. Inside, the tuner, preamp, amp, CD player / changer, tape deck are all one thing. #Boombox in a suit, basically.
Both times, I figured out what was wrong - but I couldn't get to the bits I needed to actually fix them. I got stumped trying to take the front #fascia off the chassis. There's usually a few screws to take the back and/or top off, and then some #clips holding the front fascia to the (usually) one-piece sheet metal sides and bottom. Taking a #spudger to them releases all along the top and sides, but at the bottom of the fascia, it doesn't release - there's something weird about the clips I can't see, and I don't see any #screws responsible, inside or out. I don't want to force it more than I have because it will break.
Any Sony-heads out there know the secret with these things? They're from the 80s and 90s, at least the ones brought into me.

Join us on Saturday, July 11th, 2026 at Richelieu-Vanier Community Centre (300 des Pères-Blancs Avenue) from 10am until 2pm.
Repair Cafés are opportunities for all Ottawa & area residents to feel purpose and belonging – whether as a visitor or volunteer – to save money, learn new skills and foster a culture of repair! Repair Cafés directly divert items from our local landfills and reduce our environmental impact, while allowing our community to engage in accessible climate action!
Repair Cafés are an international concept that has come to the National Capital Region with the goal of reducing landfill waste, teaching new skills, and building community!
Our past Repair Cafés have been very successful with volunteers fixing dozens of items and sharing their knowledge around everything from darning socks to re-wiring kettles.
It's first-come, first-served, so please be prepared for the chance of extended wait times. Though we work as quickly and efficiently as we can, the popularity of these events is increasing and we can never tell what kind of wait there may be for us to see your item. We ask for your patience and kindness - remember, we are all on this repair mission together! :)
This event is held in collaboration with the the City of Ottawa and is FREE OF CHARGE. This listing is for information purposes only. All registration occurs onsite. You DO NOT HAVE TO REGISTER via Eventbrite, but a donation to support these great initiatives is always appreciated and helps cover expenses for volunteers. Today was the culmination of weeks of planning and preparation by my amazing wife, and thanks to her and the amazing volunteers today the Buckden Repair Café was successful in repairing around 50 items, keeping them out of landfill, saving people money and in some cases preserving something of great sentimental or emotional value. The forces of capitalism and neoliberalism may be strong, but they cannot beat us and we will build something better from the parts. #onegoodthingtoday #positivevibes #repaircafe

The next #Regina Repair Cafe is tomorrow! Boy, time flies. It seems like just a month ago that we did the last one.
This one is at the Victoria Square mall. It runs from 10am to 4pm as usual. Advance bookings of repair appointments have closed, but they do take walk-ins when time and volunteers are available - I've never seen a walk-in turned away. For some reason, lots of people book appointments and then don't show up, so there's a fair bit of time freed up from that.
I'm just a volunteer, not an organizer. If you have electronics, small appliances, tools or "general repairs" that could use a (free!) look-at, diagnosis, and possible repair, come down and see me. That's my usual remit.
Virtually anything else can also be looked at; there are many volunteers covering every possible category from bicycle fixes to repairing garments to tuning up guitars.
Helping to keep stuff in the hands of people that use it, rather than it ending up in the landfill for want of a small repair, is rewarding for me.

Kleiner Tipp für alle, die gerne wissen wollen, was in der eigenen Stadt so läuft: Einfach mal die Bekanntmachungen der Gemeindeverwaltung lesen. Klingt trocken, ist aber oft Gold. Letzte Woche hab ich so rausgefunden, dass unser Stadtteil einen neuen Repair Café-Treff bekommt. 🛠️ Fast verpasst, weil ich auf den großen Portalen gesucht hab.

Fahrradreparaturen konnten wegen des schönen Wetters diesmal im Freien gemacht werden. Natürlich wird Material und Werkzeug auch mit dem Fahrrad transportiert.

Gestern gab es eine erste Info-Veranstaltung zur Umstellung Windows auf Linux organisiert vom RC-Gröbenzell. Weil im Raum nur Platz für 20 Leute war konnten noch nicht alle Anmeldungen berücksichtigt werden.
Es gab viele Fragen welche fast alle vom Linux-Team beantwortet werden konnten. Anhand einer Präsentation konnten sich die Besucher auch einen ersten Eindruck von der Benutzeroberfläche machen. -
