Mein #Lenovo #Thinkpad #T590 fährt korrekt hoch, Display bleibt dunkel (mit Taschenlampe sieht man schwach den Anmeldebildschirm).
Da ist offenbar Sicherung des Backlights gestorben, vermutlich durch defektes Displaykabel im Scharnier.
Da ich weder Equipment / Erfahrung / Ehrgeiz im SMD-Löten habe - gibt es in #Karlsruhe einen seriösen Laden, der solche #Reparaturen (Sicherung- und Kabeltausch) zu realistischen Preisen macht? Oder gehe ich zum #Repaircafe?

"Our past Repair Cafés have been very successful with volunteers fixing hundreds of items and sharing their knowledge around everything from darning socks to re-wiring kettles.
"It's first-come, first-served, so please be prepared for the chance of extended wait times. Though we work as quickly and efficiently as we can, the popularity of these events is increasing and we can never tell what kind of wait there may be for us to see your item. We ask for your patience and kindness - remember, we are all on this repair mission together! :)
"This event is sponsored by the #DreamCommunityFoundation and hosted by #Zibi and is FREE OF CHARGE. This listing is for information purposes only. All registration occurs onsite. You DO NOT HAVE TO REGISTER via Eventbrite, but a donation to support these great initiatives is always appreciated and helps cover expenses for volunteers. Our May Repair Cafe is coming up! Come visit us at the Lorton Library. Doors open at 10:30, and we close to new repairs at 12:30pm. Knife sharpening closes at 12:00pm to allow time for cleanup. We'd love to see you there!

#RepairCafes are popping up in the UK where volunteers are learning how to #repair, #mend and #fix #garments or #electronics to avoid buying new items

16:00, Sat, Nov 15, 2025"A stitch in time may just save the planet as Britons’ nimble fingers do their bit to prevent 1.4billion garments from going to landfill. Nearly one in three adults (32%) have thrown away new clothes in the last years amid the rise of fast fashion.
"But retired nurse Debbie Kennedy, 60, is among the people who have joined a #RepairCafe where clothes are #mended. She described how attending the #GreenerAndCleanerHub’s #knitting and #crochet group in #Bromley, London, has also helped 'repair those bits of me that have been broken along the way'. Ms Kennedy said: 'As I was approaching retirement after 40 years of nursing, I wanted to ensure that I continued to feel productive and give something back to the community and maintain my health and wellbeing.' "

I #volunteered at my local Repair Cafe again today. I had fun again, though still not much actual #electronics work - more small appliances and such, and a laptop.
But a lot of small #appliances are like any other consumer-electronics item these days. They're not designed for #serviceability [1] and the electronics in them are generally a weak point - everything's consolidated onto one circuit board, with most of the functionality on one microcontroller or custom chip (depending on the device type and its price). It makes the overall #production cost of the unit #cheaper, but failures tend to be an all-or-nothing affair. Some critical component leaks its #magic #smoke and the side-effect of that is to blow up something else on the board, and the board is not easily available as a spare part. I certainly won't have a spare one in my box of components, unlike whatever the failed #component was if it had been a separate, standardized part.
So there were a couple of "See, here's what blew up, I can't fix it, and a new one will be cheaper than trying to find a parted-out replacement for the failed board".
The lady with the laptop was thrilled with a fairly simple #reassembly of a display bezel that popped its clips when she wiped out on some ice. That felt good.
[1] Getting into them is usually the hardest part, the #newer it is, the #worse it gets. One-way clips that take ages to finangle into releasing. "YOLO engineering" - "no one will ever open this!"

NEWBURYPORT — "Folks hoping to get their bicycles fixed, their garden tools sharpened or even their house lamps mended should visit the Newburyport Senior/Community Center on Saturday, April 5, for the Time Trade Network of Greater Newburyport’s annual spring Repair Café.
"Taking place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., the free event features over 30 local volunteers adept at tinkering with small appliances, textiles, jewelry, bikes, small wooden items and even mechanical clocks.
"Knife sharpening, as well as garden hand tool sharpening along with some expert advice on chair caning will also be offered.
"'We want to encourage people to have their items repaired instead of putting them into the waste stream,' event organizer Elizabeth Marcus said. 'They can also get to see just how easy and fun it can sometimes be.'
"The #TimeTradeNetwork of Greater Newburyport is a group of local volunteers willing and eager to share their knowledge as well as talents with one another.
At the Repair Café, people can bring up to three small, clean items then watch while each is repaired on the spot."
