Our local #Indivisible is hosting a food collection this month for our neighbors. I know a lot of neighbors who depend on both basic and supplemental food supplies, and Trump is just making everything worse while he takes $400M gifts and gold bars and pockets it all in his greedy little hands with his smug orange smirk.
He is tiring, but not as tired as parents trying to feed their hungry children and find the money for gas to get to and from work. Or elderly neighbors deciding on how to use their $900 social security to pay for rent, electricity, meds, coin-op laundry, bus fare, food for themselves and their cat or dog.

If you'd prefer to donate goods to the pantry, shelf-stable canned (vegetables, meats, fruits) and dried goods (pasta, rice) often come to mind. Please check expiration dates before donating. Other needed and appreciated items:
- vegetable oil
- herbs, spices and seasonings
- jellies and jams
- syrup
- condiments (ketchup, mayo, mustard, relish, bbq sauce, etc.)
- baking mixes or ingredients
- honey
- salad dressings
- canned fish and meats
- coffee, tea, hot chocolate
- laundry and dish detergent
- personal hygiene products (razors, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, feminine products, shaving cream, deodorant)

Don't toss those treasures! Donate your clean, gently used items in good repair to Provisions. Your donations help us provide affordable clothing, furniture and household goods to the community. Proceeds from the store directly support the food pantry. Donating your used items is also a fantastic way to reduce waste and help the planet.
ALL donations must be approved by the store manager Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9am-4pm.

Our garden has a combination of individual growing plots for rent, as well as communal areas where a variety of crops are grown. Each season we work to supply fresh, local produce to the food shelf at St. John’s UCC.

Okay, anyone have any advice on how to donate to the local food pantries without ending up on their donation solicitation lists? I've finally started to fall off radar since the last time I donated somewhere and I really hate how much mail it generates.
I know how much it costs to put those mailers together, and I'd really rather not be contributing to that overhead when the money should be going to buying food. Yes, I know, they budget for it, and some of the better ones do see a good return on donations, but I am not their target demographic for this shit.
So, uh, yeah. Do I just need to like walk into my local one with actual cash and insist it's an anonymous donation, or is there another way to ensure they won't cover me up with donation solicitation mail?

"Local businesses are stepping up across Maine to provide food and supplies for people who will go without SNAP benefits in November due to the government shutdown.
"Nearly 170,000 Mainers are enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program which provides an average of $572 per family every month.
"#SamsItalianFoods, which has multiple locations in the #LewistonAuburn area, plans to give away 10' cheese #pizzas to SNAP families with children in November.
"Store manager Trisha Cottrill said she's watched the generosity spread to other businesses ever since state officials announced the federal government warned them that it will not be distributing benefits last week.
" 'I opened my Facebook this morning and saw that #JustInTime is doing something. #NuttyNettiesCafe is also doing something,' Cotrill said. 'It's really great that the community, as a whole, is pitching in to help ease the burden on families.'
"Receiving a pizza at any Sam's location will require proof of I.D. with a SNAP or #EBTCard with the child present. If a parent wants to eat with their child, Sam's will offer a 10% discount.
"Over a third of all SNAP households have children, according to state data.
"Grocery stores like #MegunticookMarket in #CamdenME are also giving away free food and supplies.
"Owner Nishant Patel said he gave away dozens of bags of fresh produce over the weekend which included tomatoes, onions, bananas and bread."
