Donated to our local food pantry a couple weeks ago. Received confirmation letter in the mail yesterday, a handwritten envelope.

Can't remember the last time a nonprofit sent me a handwritten envelope.

Learned how the pantry supports folks in our community.

Average this year, before SNAP shut down, was 430 families.

In late October, it grew to 495 families (1,600 people).

Last week the number grew to 507.

For Thanksgiving, they expect 625 families.

Over 5 hours of local AcoustiCafe stars playing songs and entertaining people.

If you're lucky enough to make it in person at 5005 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh, PA, it'll be $10 at the door but there will be food and beverages.

Okay, anyone have any advice on how to donate to the local food pantries without ending up on their donation solicitation lists? I've finally started to fall off radar since the last time I donated somewhere and I really hate how much mail it generates.

I know how much it costs to put those mailers together, and I'd really rather not be contributing to that overhead when the money should be going to buying food. Yes, I know, they budget for it, and some of the better ones do see a good return on donations, but I am not their target demographic for this shit.

So, uh, yeah. Do I just need to like walk into my local one with actual cash and insist it's an anonymous donation, or is there another way to ensure they won't cover me up with donation solicitation mail?
