A collaboration between #IslandWasteCollective, Waiheke Resources Trust and #RepairCaféAotearoa #NewZealand!

We will have volunteer repairers who can help you fix:

- Electrical items
- Clothing
- Bikes
- Jewellery
- Small furniture
- Tools
- Toys
- and much more...

Feel free to email us if you are not sure if you can bring your item and we will confirm if we have the right person available who can help

Please note:

Jewellery repairs will be available from 11 am
Usually, we allow 30 minutes per item for repair or diagnostics, and we generally recommend bringing no more than two items per person. If there’s no one waiting, we can sometimes squeeze in a little extra time for you.
A quick reminder about the Repair Café vibe: it’s not a drop‑off service where you leave your item and head out for a coffee or a beach walk. The whole magic of a Repair Café is in connecting, learning, and fixing things together, so it’s important that you stay with your item while one of our volunteers helps you out.

We’re lucky to have an amazing team with a huge range of skills and talent. To give you an idea of what happens at a typical event, at one of our our last Repair Cafés we:

• Assessed 69 items
• Successfully repaired 53
• Provided expert advice for 7 future fixes

"Our Repair Café is in its 6th year of holding monthly events helping you to repair your household items, save resources and build community.

You will be able to bring items for smaller repairs. Examples include:

"How New Zealanders are getting a bad deal on repair – and what the UK shows is possible.

When a washing machine fails, dirty laundry piles up while owners wait weeks for an authorised repairer. Even simple faults can become expensive repairs once call-out fees and labour charges are added.

Yet many common repairs are straightforward. Replacing a door gasket, detergent hose or drain pump doesn't require specialist qualifications – just basic tools, practical skills, and access to the right information and parts.

So why is repair support so difficult to access?

We investigated ten popular washing machine brands in New Zealand, grading each manufacturer on whether owners can access repair manuals and purchase spare parts. We found a pattern of barriers that prevent owners from carrying out simple repairs themselves.

Then we repeated the investigation in the UK using the same manufacturers.

The results were dramatically different. Many brands that restrict repair support in New Zealand provide UK consumers with detailed manuals, online parts catalogues, stock availability and direct ordering.

The barriers to repair are not technical or logistical. Manufacturers already have the systems needed to support repair – they simply choose not to make them available to New Zealand consumers.

"The Aotearoa New Zealand-wide Repair Festival was launched in September 2024, successfully bringing together the many Repair Cafés, businesses, organisations, and Councils that are joining the growing Repair Community. In 2025, we saw an even higher and broader participation, leading to a strong desire for a month-long festival.

The Repair Festival 2026 runs from Saturday, September 5 to Sunday, September 27 (the first Saturday to the last Sunday of the month), as we host continuous repair activities and events all across the motu. We invite everyone to join the Repair Movement: communities, businesses, schools, universities and libraries, advocacy groups, and government.

I just tried to volunteer for the repair cafe in The Tron, and I this experience all over again;

I fought my way through a thicket of 3rd-party domains serving proprietary JS, and then had to do a bunch of unpaid MOLE Training for Goggle in order to submit the contact form. In the end it seemed to have submitted, but I got no feedback confirming that.
