On FehrTrade today - a grey shirt with Big Shoulder Energy!
The main pattern is Burda magazine 06/2022 no113, but with an invisible button placket from 12/2023 no106. The fabric is a grey cotton(?) from one of my #IWTV props auction lots.

Huh, a hack worked. So I shall share.
Saw someone saying she uses Picksters to get the fluff out of her sewing machine. Just tried it and oooh, so much fluff out of the deep insides. Very satisfying.
A little hard to get the fluff off for another poke around, but I found they pick up a LOT of fluff even when the head is very much tangled with fluff.
I've said fluff too much. It's lost all meaning. -
Gestern habe ich bei filmfriend "Der Hochzeitsschneider von Athen" gesehen. Als früherer Handwerker, der wirtschaftliche Probleme der Selbständigkeit gut kennt, mit jetzt zwei Nähmaschinen als Hobby fand ich den Film berührend und die genähten Schmuckstückchen teilweise superschön.

Every so often, I think I want to give up sewing and try to find anyone making clothes I like. Dear god, the place I found has dresses starting at $250 and all the ones I like are $338, for cotton, not linen, not silk, cotton. I guess whimsical quilting cotton sundresses for life!

I was thinking about my sewing and how this was the first summer in a long time that didn't have a "this summer's dress" where I sew up half a dozen or more of the same trendy pattern. Both of the dress patterns I wanted to be THE summer dress had very uncomfortable armholes/sleeve cap situations that I couldn't fix. I hardly sewed anything this summer and I don't know how I feel about that.

Enjoyed Ash Bentley's comments on #GenderIndoctrination in her latest video. Apparently there's some cookbook for cakes that was very popular in anglophone countries on the nineties.
Of course, the sewing machine cake was for girls. As was the stove cake 🥲
Growing up in that era, I remember these differences still being heavily engrained in society. As a kid, I was once at a fair in which I could pick a prize after winning some game, and I actually wanted the Barbie knock-off doll. That would pair nicely with the Action Man dolls I had at home. But my mom, standing next to me, told me no—I'd be better off picking that toy car. When we were walking back to our bikes, she told me she was afraid of running into some classmates of mine, who would probably have bullied me for walking around with a Barbie. That became one of my core memories, looking back 🤔
No shade on my mom, of course. She was trying to look out for me. (Though the "tough boys don't cry" admonishion whenever I cried also left some marks. I was well into my thirties before I could sort-of cry in front of others again.)

Finished my katwise inspired sweater dress! It turned out so great!!! It's so pretty and super cozy! I am going to live in this as soon as it stops being 90-100 degrees every day.

The appropriate thing to do for a good machine is to buy a 1950's or 60's zigzag machine (if you need that functionality), one of the all metal machines, and get it serviced or service it yourself; it will last forever and ever. The inappropriate thing is to do what she is doing, which is "oh, I don't need a good machine, I won't be sewing very much at some indefinite point in the future because I am getting older, so I will buy the cheapest model possible". Then, she borrows everyone else's sewing machines (at one point at her retirement villa she had 3 machines, all borrowed from other people, because her "new" machine she hated or was broken or whatever). 🤷 #sewing #sewingmachines

Acquired a newish sewing machine for $25 for my MIL, who keeps buying cheap new ones and breaking them. Cleaned it, did some light lubrication, but working fine anyway. 1990's. Quality is a fraction of the old machines, more than a few plastic parts inside there :eyeroll: (but she knows and likes this machine model, while she would reject an older machine even if superior quality and equal functionality). But better than whatever crap companies are turning out at the low end nowadays. #sewingmachine #sewing

Netherlands people on my feed, how the heck is "Japon" a synonym between the country and a gown?
Overcoming American web searches, and my own biases, to find this page was interesting. Only a handful of pages actually translate automatically.
For gown progress, I've got the horizontal bands assembled, am now working on the misc piping. Waiting for sew in interfacing to arrive, so I can proceed to construction.

Tip from a student in one of our classes:
They found rotary cutter blades at Harbor Freight for, like, $1 each.
Go to the carpet cutting section. If you ask the staff, they may not know what you're talking about.
We haven't confirmed this at our local HF yet, but absolutely will be looking next time we're there.

Went to a fabric market today and was very successful! I got connectors for straps for Lightning's gunblade bag, a fabric for Faith's vest and even found a fabric that I might use for Fragile's weird time rain-resistent jacket. The latter was not in stock in sufficient quantity but will be in the future in a shop that is not too far from where I live, so I can plan and then go there and look at it again. One of the owners has a lot of cosplaying customers and immediately... 1/2
