  1. @vicgrinberg Not linen, but #silk: I have one silk shirt and I recently applied #sashiko to it, with an iron-on repair patch on the back. I think it came out well and it's held tight, so far.

  2. Hey #VisibleMending people,

any recommendations for manuals or tutorials how to mend a hole like this one in **linen** pants?
Boundary conditions: it had to be done by hand without any special equipment (but I'm pretty good at hand stitches of all kind & don't own a sewing machine) and it has to hold a few washes, at least.

For everyone else: please note I am asking people with experience in #mending or clothes #repair, not folks who point me towards something they found online or googled up.

  3. A quick #introduction using an obscene number of hashtags to hopefully reach people I want to be in community with! I make #art and #software and particularly like #linocuts and #embroidery and I also enjoy #visiblemending.

On the tech side my pet topics are currently #datavis (currently looking at #publictransport in my area) and #rdf #ontologies (what can we practically and ethically do with them?)

Would love to follow you if you're interested in any of these things.

  8. Today in Mending: the pocket of a secondhand Timbuk2 bag I paid a little too much for on eBay, but it was exactly what the kid wanted for an alternate schoolbag so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  9. @elizabethtasker a beautiful example of collaborative #repair and #visibleMending! (BTW, all embroiderers at our museum bring their own needles although the museum has the best materials. It's somerthing like 'wait, my handwriting flows better with my favourite pen'.)

  19. @ExtinctionR Try to learn some #VisibleMending ! It's simple, it's fun, and you become the designer of your individual style (nothing disheveled)!
You can nearly endlessly use such #mendings and when the piece falls apart, cut it in scraps for becoming a patch for something else ... or bind several pieces to make an #artjournal!
#SlowFashion and #repair mustn't be ugly. It's creative and connects people eg by patch swaps.

  24. More birds. My nephew specifically requested the last one, which I take as a win.

  29. @Stratski Thank you for the great thread! For fans of #visibleMending - you can use special needles for jeans and thick fabrics, that's better for the fingers. Sashiko patterns are great for hand stitching in such a place, of course, then on the outer side.
