There aren't many new photos on my phone lately. That reflects the fact that I'm now only running errands. But I also did some mending today. Visible mending is my form of rebelling against my upbringing; _everything needs to be neat and proper_ Oh to hell with it! Productive day.

I can't fix everything but I can fix these pants I ripped going over a chain link fence to retrieve a beach ball.
I got to use the new-to-me Necchi Supernova on the free-motion quilting bits, after failing to execute my vision successfully on either the Juki (not made for it, not its fault) or the Bernina (don't have the right foot, don't wait to wait three weeks for it to get ordered). I'm trying to improve my free motion skills ahead of tackling the #cherryChoreCoat project again...

Und nochmal #visiblemending am Hosenboden: Von innen passenden Stoff eingelegt und dann ordentlich Zacken mit der Nähmaschine drüber.
Ich hoffe, jetzt reibt außen das Garn aneinander und nicht mehr der Stoff.(Ich hatte Kind2 gefragt, ob ich stattdessen einen festen Knieschoner-Stoff außen draufnähen soll, aber der macht Geräusche beim Laufen.)

Der MS Wissenschaft war durch starken Wind im riesigen Aufblasherz ein ca. 80 cm Riss entstanden. Nach dem Ausstellungsbesuch in Duisburg leistete ich erste Hilfe. Mit unzureichenden Mitteln (wortwörtlich mit Bordmitteln gefixt :blobcatgiggle: ) hässlich genäht aber jetzt hält das Herz für Bonn die Luft.

Husband wanted mending of woolens for his birthday. I will not burden you with all of them, but I am quite happy with this burgundy cardigan, which is on its third mend. It sports a number of bees. I added one more, but also invisible mends and elbow patches (over serious wear). #visiblemending #mending

Ein weiterer Riss in meiner Sommerjeans – und eine weitere Gelegenheit, Kleidung länger zu nutzen.
Zur Stabilisierung habe ich innen mit Sashiko-Stichen einen Flicken aufgenäht, den Riss mit einfachen Stichen geschlossen und anschließend einen sichtbaren Flicken darüber gearbeitet. So wird aus einer beschädigten Stelle ein neues Detail mit eigener Geschichte.
Der Stoff zeigt inzwischen auch auf der anderen Seite erste Verschleißspuren. Statt die Hose auszusortieren, repariere ich sie weiter – Stich für Stich.
Nachhaltigkeit beginnt oft mit kleinen Entscheidungen. 💙

One of the things I did yesterday was mod my JLab Play Pro headset with a switched microphone socket. This lets me plug in an external microphone in place of the boom, allowing me to connect one that is in my mask instead.
Getting into these things is a pain, the Play Pro has an almost triangular earcup with no obvious entry points. The way in is to jam a flat-blade screwdriver around the edge and release 4 plastic clips that hold the earcup together.
In yesterday's surgery, I managed to damage the power/multi-function button, it works outside the housing, but inside the button no longer engages with the keycap properly, it appears my pressing it whilst outside the housing managed to damage the pads around the SMD button, and so it flexes instead of presses.
Aside from that the surgery was a success, I was able to use either the built-in microphone (retractable boom) or an external one (Sundstrom ST-2 in-mask microphone). I used a switched socket to allow seamless switching. Of course there are no line-mounted switched sockets, this is a PCB-mount socket. I had intended to drill a hole and mount it inside, but the design of the earcup makes this impossible, so I just wrapped it in heat-shrink and tacked it to the outside with double-sided tape.
But I still need to fix the MFB, because this headset turns itself off when you charge it (annoying), and I need to be able to turn it back on.
So my hack-job fix is to take a regular through-hole tactile button, wire some flying leads to it, remove the old keycap, jam the new (square) button through the (round) hole, and solder the wires onto the pads where the old button connected.
Ugly as sin, but whatever, it works! #DIYRepair #VisibleMending

Visible mending - the v-neckline of this blouse wasn't well made, so it started fraying fairly soon.
Covered it with embroidery thread and some simple stitches (someone wants to tell me what the English or German name of this stitch is? Please do!). It's not super visible given that the thread color blends with the rest of the blouse, but it's also very much not hiding.

@vicgrinberg Not linen, but #silk: I have one silk shirt and I recently applied #sashiko to it, with an iron-on repair patch on the back. I think it came out well and it's held tight, so far.

Nachdem Mamas Stopfgarn nicht mit der Belastung klar kam (Pilling bis Fadenbruch), nochmal neues (unauffälliges) #visiblemending mit einem festeren und farblich passenden Jersey und Garn von der Schwiegermutter in DDR-Qualität.
Was tut man nicht alles für Lieblingshosen …
