Made a ~50L pack liner out of 1.0 oz Dyneema to fit both my larger ULA Catalyst backpack and my Osprey Mutant 38 mountaineering backpack.
The design minimizes seams and uses folded darts to create a domed bottom and elevate the bottom seam by about 8 centimeters. Fully seam taped to keep water out.
The roll top uses 4mm foam as a stiffener and 3 snaps to hold the edges together before rolling. A 15mm (5/8") Magic buckle snaps together when closing thanks to small magnets in each half.
The Bio Hazard alerts anyone who dares to open the liner after sweating for several days in the great outdoors.
Total weight: 58gr.

Starting to rekindle my sewing habit with some #myog (make your own gear) packing cubes.
Proud of them, besides the fact that I sewed the big one completely inside out and didn’t even realize until I had stitched the last stitch. 😅 Looks funky but I guess it’s still functional?

First sewing project (pencil case) complete! I thought recycling a reusable Walmart bag was the best choice to practice with and I liked the way it turned out. I feel like I did a decent job and any places where the stitching wasn't exactly straight is hidden inside the seams. Biggest misstep was sewing the zip too tight and needing to make some adjustments ✂️
Definitely more confidence earned for next project ✨ I want to do it again and use something heavier so it's got more structure.
I wanted to test out the decorative top stitching so shamrocks and hearts seemed like an obvious choice 🇮🇪

Sewed a new cover for the mini greenhouse. The old one had completely disintegrated in the sun. Re-used donated zippers from an old hot tub cover.
The 6 mil plastic sewed fine but the large canvas and the slick material were at times challenging to control.
Pleased with the outcome and happy to #repair, #reuse to extend this greenhouse's life. I call it re- #MYOG : Re-Make Your Own Greenhouse. ツ

3D printed magnetic needle labels attached to every machine so that I know how the machine is setup.
I switch out the label every time I load a new needle so that I don't have to remove the needle to check its size and type.

Made some weights to keep the umbrellas upright in the wind. Made from fabric "scraps" and zippers salvaged from an old #MYOG Gore-Tex jacket.
Filled with 11kg of beach sand from one of Santa Cruz' beaches.

Achievement unlocked! The Brother KE-430D bar tacker I bought last year is now fully operational. I have access to all 89 stock patterns.
The control panel of the machine says 3 phase 220V which had me scramble to get 3 phase power to the basement. Closer inspection however, revealed that the bar tacker was wired for single phase 220V, which I already have available. A new power plug brought the machine to life.
This is when I learned that the work clamp was worn and the work plate didn't support all patterns. Now with a new clamp and plate, I can sew all available patterns. I can't wait to put this machine to use!

And post number two offloaded. Completed this frame bag guide, as it was collecting dust for quite a while (started a little more than one year ago). The frame bag is still going strong after more than 5000km of cycling!

For any #ultralight #camping people out there (or regular camping folks) who are considering using #diy or #myog or even commercially available alcohol stoves but are concerned with the flames being invisible; I have just confirmed that 2 grams of common table salt dissolved in 100 mL of HEET makes the flames VERY visible. It does leave some salt deposits around the flames holes in the stove, but they rinse off very easily. Experiments with other alcohols to follow.

A 2nd packpack prototype, this time out of Tyvek. The final version will be made out of Ultra 200X which has no stretch and rather stiff. This prototype out of Tyvek shows how the final pack will "feel".
This version is deeper, taller and wider than the 1st version. I refined the bottom shape, which was relatively easy to do thanks to the parametric design in Seamly2D (https://seamly.io).

First prototype in fabric after drafting a pattern in Seamly2D (https://seamly.io/) based on the initial paper prototype. Made from recycled cotton. This prototype validated the pattern while also identifying several areas of improvement.

Starting to prototype my first backpack. Made the initial prototype out of paper to get a feel for the shape I have in mind. I find it easier to iterate with paper and tape before continuing the design in software and fabric.

The first pattern was created in a vector graphics program (Affinity Designer). Adjusting margins, offsets turned out to be a pain in the neck.
Then I found out that FreeCAD, a parametric 3D modeling application, can export 2D views. I redid the same wallet design with all critical dimensions parameterized.
Producing wallets catering to different bill sizes is now as simple as adjusting one or two parameters.

Tänä viikonloppuna alkoi reppuprojektin leikkely- ja ompeluosuus. Lanka loppui kesken, mutta aika sopivaan saumaan.
Itse repusta tulee rullattava päiväreppu, jonka saa kannettua pikkurinkan sivulle tai hupun alle vyötettynä. Pohjakankaana puuvillainen öljykangas, sivuilla taskut joustavasta verkosta ja hihnat valtavoittoisesti (valitettavasti muovista) turvavyömateriaalia.
