  1. Op-Ed: Seattle Needs Car-Free Streets

"Denny got its bus lane in four months because someone decided it could. The shared streets law exists because someone wrote it. The deaths will not stop because Councilmember Rob Saka called for another audit of the failing Vision Zero program that SDOT just audited. They will stop when the people already here, the walkers and riders, the elders and parents, and even the drivers who'd rather not be, act like the bloc they already are."

  6. It's time to reconsider the Leary route for bicycles and busses in Ballard. Not to replace the preference for the popular Shilshole proposition, but IMO, making a park in the middle of Ballard with trees, pedestrian paths, safe cycle paths and buss access is the way to go.

  10. I'd happily take a introductory car maintenance course from a non-carcentric mechanic. I.e a mechanic who is down with the #strongTowns, #safeStreets, #banCars agenda

  15. Is Urbanism Inherently Left-Wing?

Better transit, cycle lanes and housing shouldn't be partisan issues, but they are—especially in the US.

  17. Walking on Charlottesville’s beautiful and especially safe Elsom Street this morning. Streets this narrow and safe have been banned for a century, ostensibly for safety reasons since it is so difficult for trucks to race through at killing speeds. #cville #SafeStreets #DesignSpeed

  22. “It is important that we keep our bicyclists safe, as they do not have the same protections as drivers and passengers,” said Gonzales Police Chief Keith Wise. “People of all ages use bicycles to commute to school, work, and other activities. Bicyclists, like all road users, have the right to #SafeStreets. We encourage drivers and bicyclists to look out for one another and practice safe habits so we may all go safely.” salinasvalleytribune.com/gonza

  27. "In 2022, the Municipality of Tirana, in collaboration with Qendra Marrëdhënie, implemented the first permanent school street in the city, located in front of Edith Durham School. This intervention addressed both traffic safety and broader social challenges in the neighbourhood, where fast-moving vehicles, lack of pedestrian infrastructure, and limited public space previously undermined children’s safety and community well-being."

  31. Seattle Times opinion piece on Vision Zero is dangerously misleading

As usual, the "moderate" news agency never stops misinforming the public about the safety improvement effort Seattle has been making.

I'm never going to pay a dime for the Seattle Times.

  33. Cycling is ten times more important than electric cars for reaching net‑zero cities

I do believe it's important to replace as many gasoline-powered cars with EVs, but as the article says, that effort alone would not be "good enough." Reducing car travels is crucial in achieving net-zero cities in a timely fashion.

  35. Queen Anne neighbors to face Seattle officials over parking removal

"Seattle plans to remove 50+ parking spots on Queen Anne’s 14th Ave W to improve emergency vehicle access."

And the Queen Anne neighbours oppose that, just like the Laurelhurst people oppose medical helicopters landing on Seattle Children's. Give me a fuckin' break.

  37. Meet the NIMBY’s Toxic Cousin: the NOMS (Not On My Street)

"A new study argues that the notorious anti-development figure known as the NIMBY, for Not In My Backyard, has an equally toxic cousin in the transportation realm: the NOMS, or Not On My Street. And the researcher who coined the new term warns that U.S. communities will struggle to achieve lasting change until they reckon with the outsized influence of NOMS and their disturbing car-first ideology."

    Sigh.
