#BelfastME - Kindling Collective Rest and Recharge Fall

"About this trip:

Rest and Recharge is an event for folks who take part in #CommunityCare work who are looking for rest and connection.

KC is committed to creating programming that is responsive to our community. We’ve heard from folks who are deep in local community care work that they are exhausted, overwhelmed and struggle to find time to rest. In collaboration with #MCHT , we put together two day events inviting organizers to be with the land and seek rest/play. Join us for the second of these events on October 10th in the Belfast area (specific location provided after registration). #DanielleArroyo and #DaeneKugel will hold this space and offer a guided #NatureWalk and optional #crafting projects. Music and vibes courtesy of Kafari. Lunch will be provided.

Who is a community care worker?

Someone who spends time doing work (for pay or not) that supports the people in our community who need it most. This includes but is not limited to:
- #MutualAid / food delivery / #cooking & shopping for folks / #farming & #FoodSovereignty
- #StreetMedicine
- #Doula / #DeathDoula / #GriefWorker
- #Policy / #advocacy work / #LegalSupport

This event is for Queer / BIPOC participants only!

"Queer events are designed as an affinity spaces for queer and trans people of all racial identities. If you think you might be queer or trans, you are queer enough. While we love our allies and advocates, if you’re not queer, don’t come to these events.

BIPOC events are for Black, Indigenous, and people of color of all genders and sexualities. If you’re not BIPOC, do not attend these events!"

For me, a road to death, that you're aware of, includes having personal dignity & being able to live out your last days/weeks/months/years with as much joy & comfort as possible. I don't believe that terminally ill people deserve lesser than humane, compassionate care. I believe in protecting their fragile conditions, supporting them(and some of their loved ones) on difficult days & helping them to plan their own end of life journey.

A #CradleCatholic. As a wee lad, I did all the stuff - Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation. I was born here all my life. When I was around four years old, the church kicked out my mom and, by extension, my family. An #ExcludedCatholic? I explored other practices and faiths, #meditation, #yoga, #Buddhism, and all the things. I wanted to not convert to a religion or practice that I had not been born to or wasn't otherwise ancestrally connected. A deep dive into Protestant fellowships lead to immersion into the #EarlyChurch Fathers and early #ChurchHistory. Entering the #OrthodoxChurch, I lived in several monasteries and wandered around the US like the guy in Way of a Pilgrim. I was ultimately drawn to #Theosis and the #PrayerOfTheHeart, sometimes called the #JesusPrayer. Long story short, decades later, a pandemic, and a few ends of the world, here I am. The #2024Election US has me wondering about US Christianities that support social actions and movements that contradict the teachings of Jesus. Shouldn't Christ's Gospel teachings be central?

I am experiencing a fair share of it these past few years and I'd like any feedback or recommendations. Any death advocates and/or death doulas who have advice or good resources will be appreciated.
