The Sioux Nation Relief Fund operates out of the Standing Rock Reservation receives no federal funding or grants and operates programs and supports thousands of tribal members, children, and elders. average income on the Standkng Rock Reservation is $13,474 dollars, half of that in either North Dakota or South Dakota, and the tribes face high levels of poverty and unemployment, and rely on money from donations in order to help tribal members. #DecolonizeThanksgiving #NationalDayOfMourning #Thanksgiving #MutualAid #MutualAidRequest #DirectGiving

Adopt-An-Elder is a critical program operated out of Salt Lake City for the Navajo reservation in Arizona and Utah in face of the extreme poverty that many traditional elders live in. they provide food boxes, firewood to heat their homes and cook meals, and more. this is truly an organization where every dollar counts and they do vital, necessary work. #DecolonizeThanksgiving #NationalDayOfMourning #Thanksgiving #MutualAid #MutualAidRequest #DirectGiving

the Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan Tribe was illegally federally terminated in 1964 (along with scores of other tribes who were terminated in the 1950s and 1960s), becoming one of somewhere near 81 groups in California seeking federal recognition, and is therefore barred from accessing federal programming and services that support Tribal communities.
CHIRP acts as proxy for the tribe due to the gap left by federal disbandment, and world to identify, find, and implement programs and projects to address and mitigate the ongoing harms and injustices faced by the tribe, as well as to preserve, protect, and continue Nisenan culture. #DecolonizeThanksgiving #NationalDayOfMourning #Thanksgiving #MutualAid #MutualAidRequest #DirectGiving

Wood For Life brings firewood to those on reservations who have difficulty getting it, especially but not limited to elders and disabled people.
many to most people on reservations rely on firewood on wood stoves to heat during the winter.
without firewood, people die.
it's that simple. reservations across the country do not have access to power, water, and gas grids aside from in some of the cities and towns. these are areas with no postal service, no addresses, often with no cell phone service or internet. they face harsh winters and freezing and sub-freezing temperatures while relying on firewood. and it's not like off-grid white people who go out and do this sort of thing on purpose, and who mostly have resources to be able to hear through the winter, or easier access to funds if they need to raise them. #DecolonizeThanksgiving #NationalDayOfMourning #Thanksgiving #MutualAid #MutualAidRequest #DirectGiving

I will however be doing some of my own putting posts in this thread of known nonprofits and other organisations that NEED your help which will DIRECTLY impact Indigenous people including those in the poorest areas of the country—reservations—to give to as an acknowledgement and honouring of #NationalDayOfMourning. if you have groups that you find that you'd like to give to please don't put them in my thread, but go create your own, on your profile, that will thereby reach your friends and followers and spread awareness more than my one thread is able to do so.
and if you haven't thought about how fucked up that is think about it now. how human beings were rounded up like cattle and 'given' a small piece of their own lands—or 'relocated' halfway across the country—and told that this is where they lived now, stripped of resources and wealth that they had prior. how for over a hundred years children were stolen from nations and the policy was to 'kill the Indian and save the man'. and then those places are systematically neglected and worse.
if you regularly give money to #MutualAid here's your chance, because these are all #MutualAidRequest that again, have direct impact; I'd urge you to please, please consider giving tonight and tomorrow to as many of these as you can. I'll have a separate thread of artisans, all absolutely brilliant, either later tonight or tomorrow.

I miss my #DecolonizeThanksgiving thread from my old account on another instance.
long story short, we all know #Thanksgiving is a colonial sham. everyone knows it. educate yourself and your families and your children on #NationalDayOfMourning. give something more than just a land acknowledgement at the beginning of your event. become involved, buy from Indigenous artists, give to organizations which directly help Indigenous people because history has handed Native American nations genocide after genocide, some of which are ongoing to this day.
at one point I'd had a long list of artists and non-profits and nations where direct giving and business supports First Nations and Indigenous people. I don't have that anymore and I don't have the spoons to recreate it and I don't know where over half the artists I'd loved and supported on the shit bird site have ended up.
so do your own research.

Today's a National Day of Mourning in the United States. A day that honors the genocide of millions of Native Americans, the theft of their lands, and the destruction of their cultures. It's a reminder that this country's foundations are built on Indigenous dispossession and erasure. Learn more: http://www.uaine.org/ #NationalDayOfMourning #Thanksgiving
