[LIVE] #NationalDayOfMourning 2025, (27 November 25 @ 12pm ET)
"Since 1970, Indigenous people & their allies have gathered at noon on Cole's Hill in Plymouth to commemorate a National Day of Mourning on the US Thanksgiving holiday. Many Native people do not celebrate the arrival of the Pilgrims & other European settlers. Thanksgiving Day is a reminder of the genocide of millions of Native people, the theft of Native lands and the erasure of Native cultures. Participants in National Day of Mourning honor Indigenous ancestors and Native resilience. It is a day of remembrance and spiritual connection, as well as a protest against the racism and oppression that Indigenous people continue to experience worldwide."

ORIENTATION FOR NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING 11/27/25
WHAT IS NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING?
An annual tradition since 1970, National Day of Mourning is a solemn, spiritual and highly political day. Many of us fast from sundown the day before through the afternoon of that day (and have a social after NDOM so that participants in NDOM can break their fasts). We are mourning our ancestors and the genocide of our peoples and the theft of our lands. NDOM is a day when we mourn, but we also feel our strength in action and solidarity.
WHEN AND WHERE IS DAY OF MOURNING?
Thursday, November 27, 2025 (U.S. "thanksgiving" day) at Cole's Hill, Plymouth, Massachusetts, 12 noon SHARP. Cole's Hill is the hill above Plymouth Rock in the Plymouth historic waterfront area. The rallies and marches will last until approximately 3 pm.
WILL THERE BE A MARCH?
Yes, there will be a march through the historic district of Plymouth. Plymouth agreed, as part of the settlement of 10/19/98, that UAINE may march on National Day of Mourning without the need for a permit as long as we give the town advance notice.
PROGRAM
Although we very much welcome our non-Native supporters to join us, it is a day when only Indigenous people speak about our history and the struggles that are taking place throughout the Americas. Speakers are by invitation only. This year's NDOM will be livestreamed from Plymouth.
Note that NDOM is not a powwow or commercial event, so we ask that people do not sell merchandise or distribute leaflets at the outdoor program. We will have UAINE t-shirts available for sale following the march.
We also ask that you do not eat (unless you must do so for medical reasons) at the outdoor speak-out and march out of respect for the participants who are fasting.
Dress for the weather!SOCIAL
There will be box lunches available for distribution after the march (turkey and vegan), but we will not have a full sit-down social.

We are not disposable.
Our women , girls and Two-Spirit people still suffer from the often lethal consquences of colonialism.
We need to work together to end the violence, to protect our women, and to bring those that have been cruelly taken, home.
A landfill is not a place for human beings. #ashleeshingoose , #TanyaNepinak , and sadly, likely more, are waiting to have a proper resting place so that they can rest in peace.

We have a long way to go towards reconciliation. I feel that holding our judicial system accountable to the lack of justice for Indigenous communities is a big part of that.
Municipal, provincial and federal law enforcement agencies all have the blood of MMIWG on their hands.

#PrayerHorseRide Prepares for Sacred Journey 2025
"We do not sell our #MotherEarth or profit off of her, Mother Earth is here to take care of us and teach us our natural ways of Life! I pray we all stand to protect our Mother,” - Josh Dini, Sr., Walker River Pauite Tribe, #WaterProtector, #PrayerHorseRider and a member of #AIM Northern Nevada.
By Prayer Horse Ride, via #CensoredNews
SCHURZ, Nevada -- "The Prayer Horse Ride is getting ready to begin our 4th annual sacred journey March 21st – April 2nd, across Nevada in the ancestral lands of the Numu (#Paiute) and Newe (#Shoshone), through Yerington, Fallon, Wadsworth, Nixon, Lovelock to McDermitt, and ending near Orovada, honoring #PeeheeMuhuh (#ThackerPass in the McDermitt Caldera).
"Those Riders, Walkers, and Runners carry the prayerful energy with each community. They'll move forward to raise awareness regarding water usage and #NativeAmericanGraves Protection and
Repatriation Act concerns about #lithium mining in Peehee Mu'huh and within the McDermitt Caldera.
"The Ride also raises awareness of several #EndangeredSpecies in #FishLakeValley (#TecopaBirdsBeak, #TiehmsBuckwheat, and #TuiChub), a place Newe gathered foods and medicines, held sacred ceremonies, and where a proposed lithium boron mine would violate the #AmericanIndianReligiousFreedomAct."Read more:

More from #KishaJames' powerful speech at the #NationalDayOfMourning :
We Will Continue
"We will continue to gather on this hill until we are free from this oppressive system -- until corporations and the U.S. military stop polluting the Earth, until we dismantle the brutal apparatus of mass incarceration.
"We will not stop until the oppression of our LGBTQ and Two Spirit siblings is a thing of the past; until unhoused people have homes; until there are no more murdered and missing indigenous women and other relatives; until human beings are no longer deported or locked in cages at the U.S. border -- despite the fact that no one no one is illegal on stolen land; until no person goes hungry or is left to die because they have little or no access to quality health care; until insulin is free; until union busting is a thing of the past.
"We will not stop until the U.S. ends its Colonial occupations of Puerto Rico and the Sovereign Kingdom of Hawaii; until the U.S. stops its warmongering worldwide; until the US ends its interventions in Haiti and repays the billions it stole from the Haitian
people; until the U.S. pays reparations to Black Americans; until land back for Native Nations; until Free Palestine."Until then, the struggle will continue -- in the spirit of Crazy Horse, in the spirit of Metacom, in the spirit of Geronimo, above all, to all people who fight and struggle for real Justice.
"We are not vanishing we are not conquered. We are as strong as ever."

#NativeAmericans Hold #NationalDayOfMourning on #Thanksgiving
"'Thanksgiving' is a white-washed holiday designed to conceal its true origins of violence, #genocide, #LandTheft, and #ForcedAssimilation," - #IndigenousEnvironmentalNetwork.
Jessica Corbett
Nov 28, 2024"In contrast with Thanksgiving celebrations across the United States on Thursday, Native Americans held a National Day of Mourning, promoted accurate history, and championed Indigenous voices and struggles.
"Despite rainy conditions, the United American Indians of New England held its 55th annual National Day of Mourning at Cole's Hill in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Kisha James, who is an enrolled member of the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) and also Oglala Lakota, shared how her grandfather founded the event in 1970 and pledged to continue to "tear down the Thanksgiving mythology."
"The past influences the present" and "the settler project" continues with racism, misogyny, and anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination, James told the crowd. "The Pilgrims are not ancient history."
"James took aim at fossil fuel pipelines, oil rigs, skyscrapers, corporations, the U.S. military, mass incarceration, and the criminalization of immigrants, and declared that "no one is illegal on stolen on land."
"Jean-Luc Pierite, a member of the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana and president of the board of directors of the North American Indian Center of Boston who helped organize this year's gathering, told USA Today that "while we are mourning some tragic history but also contemporary issues, we are also expressing gratitude for each [other] and building this community space."
"Coming together as a community for a feast and to express gratitude—that's not something that was imported to this continent because of colonization," Pierite said. "Indigenous peoples have had these practices going back beyond, beyond colonial contact."
This year's event in Plymouth included speeches about the suffering of Palestinians—as Israel wages a U.S. government-backed war on the Gaza Strip that has killed at least 44,330 people, injured 104,933, and led to a genocide case at the International Court of Justice—and of people impacted by extractive industries.
"The message from Indigenous peoples internationally has been consistent: that we need to center the development of traditional ecological knowledge, Indigenous knowledge, and move away from fossil fuel extractive economies," said Pierite. "At this time the world needs Indigenous peoples."

#WabanakiAlliance testifies in Washington about the crisis of missing and murdered indigenous women [#MMIW]
Maine Public | By Carol Bousquet
Published November 21, 2024"Murdered and missing indigenous women were the focus of a hearing before House Interior Appropriations leaders Wednesday in Washington.
"Wabanaki Alliance Executive Director Maulian Bryant testified that one in three indigenous women will be the victim of a violent crime in her lifetime. And she said stereotypes about indigenous people silence victims and make their cases more challenging to address.
"'When an Indigenous woman goes missing there's not the same attention and action as when a Caucasian woman does. The primary reasons for this are threefold: societal indifference, jurisdictional and coordination issues, and a lack of resources for tribal law enforcement agencies. The false conceptions of our people lead to victim blaming and attitudes that minimize attention given to these cases,' Bryant said.
"The 1980 Maine Indian Claims Settlement Act, Bryant said, has led to the dismissal of tribal cases because they were 'kicked out to state courts' and resulted in 'zero convictions.'
"'The state was very adept at their negotiating, and it's kept us oppressed and held back from our full experience as federally recognized tribal nations," she said. 'We are heavily restricted by this settlement, and it impacts this crisis as well.'
"Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act in 2022 means Maine tribes are now able to handle criminal cases on tribal lands.
"But Bryant said more resources are needed for tribal law enforcement training and ensuring that data on indigenous crimes against women are collected and shared with state and federal agencies that can help to bring justice to victims.
"Congresswoman Chellie Pingree, ranking member of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Subcommittee, invited Bryant to testify.
"In a statement, Pingree said there is a need for additional funding for staffing and public safety, and justice programs that can comprehensively address this crisis. 'That's why it's imperative we pass a full year Interior Appropriations bill and not have programs constrained by operating under a Continuing Resolution,' she said.
"The 2023 launch of the Department of Justice Missing and Murdered Indigenous Person Regional Outreach Program has placed ten attorneys and coordinators in five designated regions across the United States to help respond to cases, according to Pingree."

I'm disappointed that #ReservationDogs didn't win any #Emmys -- but kudos to D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai for making a statement about #MMIW!
Reservation Dogs star covers face in 'blood' at the #EmmyAwards in bold political statement
Story by Caroline Gaspich
9/15/2024"Reservation Dogs star D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai made powerful political statement at the 2024 Emmy Awards as he walked the red carpet with a red handprint painted over his face.
"The 22-year-old actor was one of the few celebrities at the major award ceremony to make a bold political statement on the red carpet. The young Canadian star was photographed in a classic black suit with a bright red bloody handprint painted over his mouth which is a symbol of solidarity with the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) movement in North America.
"This handprint is in recognition of all of the thousands of women that have been silenced and the harrowing fact that #NativeAmerican women are up to 10 times more likely to be murdered or sexually assaulted. The root cause of this injustice stems from a number of factors including #colonization and #HistoricalTrauma, #racism, and sexual #objectification of #IndigenousWomen.
"The bold statement comes as Woon-A-Tai was nominated for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his iconic role in FX's 'Reservation Dogs' as the character Bear Smallhill. Woon-A-Tai is competing in the category against Larry David from Curb Your Enthusiasm, Martin Short from Only Murders in the Building, and Matt Berry from What We Do in the Shadows.
"Woon-A-Tai's political statement advocating for Indigenous women comes as he was an all-indigenous cast and crew on set of Reservation Dogs. Reservation Dogs is comedy-drama television series that follows the everyday lives of four Indigenous teens in rural Oklahoma, as they spend their days committing crimes to save money to escape their reservation community."
