  1. Just finished reading "Holler: A Graphic Memoir of Rural Resistance" by Denali Sai Nalamalapu. An excellent graphic novel about resistance to the Mountain Valley Pipeline in Virginia and West Virginia. Although the pipeline is sadly operational today, resistance delayed it by more than twice the originally-planned timeline, and increased the cost tremendously. This kind of action increases cost and risk projections for pipelines all around the world and slows down capitalist extraction even where it can't stop it.

The book is lovely, drawn from interviews with 6 different activists and including a variety of perspectives on resistance, including an indigenous perspective. A gray thing to read if you're into #SolarPunk, #anarchism, or #ClimateJustice, or just curious. I've included a picture of a page talking about building towards future communities here.

  6. Nothing is inevitable. Holding on to tenderness, to the will to create alternative systems of care, safety and love. That is my offering, we are enough and we will remember.

[Image Description: illustration of a mother pigeon and her baby. The mom is grey with green, purple and teal highlights, the baby is yellow with few feathers and their eyes are still shut. At the very top reads the text: “nothing is inevitable!” In red. End of description]

  10. Today in Stockholm, Friends joined #DenStoraKlimatDemonstrationen .

It felt important to be there. Not only because the climate crisis asks something of all of us, but because public witness matters.

It was also colourful and full of life: people gathering, walking, speaking, listening, and dancing.

Thank you to everyone who came, organised, carried signs, shared space, and helped make the day feel hopeful.

  11. Climate Disasters Do Not Automatically Lead To Greater Care For The World

Getty Images/iStcokphoto During the second half of the 20th century, the number of disasters occurring each year worldwide increased twentyfold. Since 2000, they have reached a high plateau, hovering around 600 disasters per year. Since 2000, these disasters have killed, injured or left homeless an average of 200 million people each year, representing 2.5% of the global population. If we make the rather unrealistic assumption that the distribution of these events is equally probable – […]

  13. In Nairobi, a UN body is deciding if "sustainable" becomes a rubber stamp for the cage.

More than 575,000 live animals traded legally between 2011–2020 carried zoonotic disease risks. Reptiles die at 3.6% in captivity (up to 28% for chameleons).

"Sustainable use" measured only by population counts lets a practice pass inspection while it normalizes severe suffering.

  20. And so it begins: Possible jail time for climate criminals:

"South Africa will seek jail time, fines and higher taxes for breaches of proposed rules to govern carbon emissions that will apply to almost all sectors of the economy...

A failure to meet reporting requirements could see executives imprisoned, while exceeding emission limits may trigger a higher carbon-tax rate."
