The institute hired Tom Flanagan, a conservative academic often called “the man behind Stephen Harper,” to write it. Flanagan warned of a possible “apocalyptic scenario” if there were ever prolonged and deep collaboration between environmentalists, First Nations, and the Métis people . . . . By “apocalyptic,” he meant that industries like oil and gas would have trouble continuing to extract resources and profits in northern Alberta and would no longer be able to flagrantly disregard Indigenous rights. If these groups were to “make common cause and cooperate with each other,” Flanagan wrote, they could form “a coordinated movement with the ability to block resource development on a large scale.”

> Passing the proposed Climate Justice Plan is a critical step toward ensuring that Multnomah County is taking necessary action to protect our communities and that the county remains a leader in climate and environmental action.
> The Multnomah County CJP lays out concrete ways for both government and community to achieve climate justice for everyone.
> This government climate plan was built from the ground up with the people most impacted by the climate crisis and decades of pollution. Frontline voices are at the center. And it’s moving at the speed of trust, not at the speed of industry lobbyists. The plan was developed in partnership with local climate and environmental justice organizations and reflects our communities’ specific and most pressing needs.
