En lo personal, Cortés no terminó su vida como una figura plenamente estable dentro del poder imperial.
El rey Carlos I de España fue limitando su autoridad progresivamente, retirándole el gobierno directo de los territorios conquistados.
Cortés pasó sus últimos años entre gestiones legales, reclamaciones y viajes a la península.Murió en 1547 en Castilleja de la Cuesta, en Sevilla, lejos del territorio que había contribuido a incorporar a la Corona.
Su fallecimiento fue discreto en comparación con la magnitud histórica de su papel.
Sus restos fueron trasladados en varias ocasiones a lo largo del tiempo, en función de circunstancias políticas posteriores.Su descendencia refleja también la complejidad de aquella época.
Con La Malinche tuvo a Martín Cortés (el Mestizo), considerado uno de los primeros mestizos de origen noble en el contexto colonial.
Su vida transcurrió entre España y América, con formación en la corte y participación en conflictos militares y políticos.
Finalmente, acabó implicado en una conspiración en Nueva España que lo llevó a ser procesado, torturado y desterrado, aunque sobrevivió y continuó su vida en España.Por su parte, La Malinche, tras la etapa de la conquista, se apartó del foco político.
Contrajo matrimonio con el capitán Juan Jaramillo, vivió en Ciudad de México y murió hacia 1529, probablemente durante una epidemia.
Su figura ha sido interpretada de formas muy distintas a lo largo del tiempo, desde símbolo de traición hasta pieza clave en la formación de una nueva identidad cultural.En conjunto, la historia de Cortés no es la de un único individuo que actúa en solitario, sino la interacción de múltiples factores: decisiones personales, contextos políticos, alianzas locales, estructuras sociales preexistentes y acontecimientos imprevisibles que, sumados, dieron forma a un cambio histórico profundo.

El dios más viejo de todos: Huehuetéotl
Traducido del náhuatl, Huehuetéotl significa literalmente “dios viejo”. Fue una de las deidades más importantes de Mesoamérica, pues su figura estaba asociada al fuego, al hogar y a la sabiduría. Gracias a la evidencia arqueológica encontrada en sitios tan distantes como Cuicuilco (en la Ciudad de México) o Monte Albán (en Oaxaca), se ha podido confirmar que su culto fue uno de los más antiguos, prolongados y extensos, pues comenzó en el periodo Preclásico (400 a. C. al 200 d. C.) y continuó hasta la llegada de los europeos.
De acuerdo con algunos mitos prehispánicos, el fuego fue creado antes que el Sol y los humanos, por esa razón a Huehuetéotl se le personificaba como un anciano, para señalar su naturaleza como el más viejo de los dioses. Así, en las esculturas y cerámicas se le solía representar portando un incensario en la cabeza y en posición sedente, a veces con una joroba, se le remarcaban las arrugas y surcos de la cara y se le mostraba desdentado.
En la fotografía vemos una urna antropomorfa representando a Huehuetéotl, el dios del Fuego. Manufacturada en barro modelado con decoración esgrafiada. Proviene del Cerro de las Minas en Huajuapan de León. Mixteca Baja. (200 d.C. - 900 d.C.)

"As a young girl, Jessica Shenandoah (Wolf Clan from the Akwesasne Mohawk Nation) learned about harvesting medicine and food plants alongside her mother and grandmother. Contemporary Native People are often separated many generations from their traditional knowledge due to the effects of colonial realities such as boarding school, forced religion, and land theft.
"In the latest Native women-centered film by Mohawk filmmaker Katsitsionni Fox (Ohero:kon - Under the Husk, Without a Whisper - Konnon:kwe), Shenandoah goes on a journey across four seasons and multiple Native territories to connect with other knowledge keepers reviving the land-based knowledge of their ancestral grandmothers in order to return to time-honored practices of pottery making, mat weaving, hide tanning, medicine making, food gathering, and more. Jessica embodies the Mohawk concept of Tentsítewahkwe as she picks up knowledge of the old ways, these slow methods of creating and connecting in reciprocity with the Earth.
"This film is at once a thank you to the Native women who imbued their descendents with blood memory of these practices and a promise to future generations of Native people that these practices will stay alive for generations to come."
