Radko Mladić was a disgusting person.
Genocide. Crimes against humanity. War crimes. The Srebrenica massacre. A lifetime’s worth of reasons to keep his name in the history books under “never, ever again.”
He died in prison in The Hague recently.
And today, Serbia gives him a hero’s burial.
You really don't need a political science degree to understand the symbolism here.
When a convicted genocidaire gets flowers, flags and a hero’s funeral, while his victims get excuses, denial and silence, you've learned something rather important about the society doing the celebrating.
Apparently “never again” comes with a rather generous asterisk.
How utterly fucking disgraceful.

Was meint "echte Widerstandsbewegung"? Schon heute gibt es zahlreiche Antifaschist:innen sowie militante Aktivist:innen, welche trotz erheblichen Risiken für sich selbst, den Faschist:innen entgegen treten.
Alleine die antifaschistische Rechtshilfeorganisation Rote Hilfe e.V. kann über die vergangenen Jahrzehnte hinweg von tausenden Menschen berichten, die sich politisch und praktisch widerständig betätigten und nach wie vor betätigen.
Oder ich denke an jene Antifaschist:innen, die aktuell in Großverfahren wie jenem in Dresden oder in Düsseldorf vor Gericht stehen, oder wie Maja, in ungarischer Haft sitzen.
Wir haben die Aktion in Berlin, als Anfang des Jahres in einem Stadtteil der Strom abgestellt wurde. Immer wieder gibt es ähnliche Aktionen gegen Stromnetze oder Bahninfrastruktur.
D.h. schon jetzt gibt es kladestine Akteur:innen die wirkungsvoll agieren. Unter einem offen faschistisch agierenden Regime würde das vermutlich nicht anders sein.
Und wenn wir in die Zeit 1933-1945 zurück schauen: dort haben die allerallerwenigsten Widerstand geleistet, die absolute Mehrheit hat es sich bequem eingerichtet. Hier lohnt es sich immer wieder das Buch "Hitlers Volksstaat -Raub, Rassenkrieg und nationaler Sozialismus" von Götz Aly zu lesen.
Ich bin also recht optimistisch, was eine Widerstandsbewegung angeht.

On 26th of August, the US government designated the A/I collective as a "global terrorist organization".
The A/I collective has provided free online services to antifascists worldwide for more than twenty years. Considerable wins in antifascist struggle have been helped by their services.
