A lot of people voting for the AfD aren’t confused. They aren’t blinded. They aren’t merely “protesting.”

They want what that fascist party stands for.

And we need to stop making excuses for them.

The problem in Germany after the Saxony-Anhalt election is this:

Every time we oppose the AfD, they will tell us, “But that’s what the voters want.” And then they’ll call us undemocratic for refusing to accept it.

No.

Democracy does not mean surrendering to the strongest fascist tendency at the ballot box. It means defending the democratic society in which people are actually free to disagree, organise, protest, and live without being targeted by fascists.

This will be a tough fight. It will be exhausting. And yes, sometimes it will feel horribly lonely.

But there is literally no alternative.
Until there is no Alternative.
