I’m trying to find out how I can volunteer for this. I can’t even find much information about the “New Battlefield Project” by name.

Anyone have any info about this? I wanna help to defend democracy.

  3. Really good article by Jordan Green detailing the effort by a GOP operative on the Pentagon's payroll to undermine antifascist research by "exposing" sites hosted by Noblogs, a platform administered by the Italian collective Autistici/Inventati (currently winding down).

Green cites several cases in which these researchers and their colleagues have published detailed info about concrete plans to destroy infrastructure and even kill people while our sainted protectors in law enforcement were completely out to lunch.

For that reason, this is also a good article to point to if you find yourself arguing with liberals who are wringing their hands about "violent" antifa activities like punching nazis or doxxing. But even apart from that, I highly recommend this as a general primer/reminder of the importance of antifascist research and the bad faith arguments so often made by its detractors.

  4. CW: CW: nationalism, German history, war, fascism

Germany: this peculiar Frankenstein’s monster of a nation, stitched together from kingdoms, duchies, free cities, dialects, cultures, grudges and several centuries of mutually assured irritation.

Sometimes I wonder whether history might have been kinder if someone had simply left the pieces alone.

A handful of smaller countries. More local identities. Fewer grand national fantasies. Entities the size of the Netherlands, Belgium, or perhaps at times Luxembourg.

Perhaps Europe, and quite possibly the world, might have been better for it.

    But no.

Somebody decided that all these differences needed to be hammered into one people, one nation, one destiny.

And once you teach people to worship the container, sooner or later they start asking which humans belong inside it.

    Germany did not invent nationalism.

But it demonstrated, with horrifying thoroughness, what happens when a collection of places is turned into a political myth, and that myth is given an army.

    I have news for you:

    The Brandmauer never existed.

It was always a political convenience, not a democratic principle.

The CDU does not care about the Brandmauer. It cares about power.

And once again, radicalised conservatives are doing what conservatives have done throughout history: convincing themselves that they can use fascists without empowering fascism.

    They cannot.

    They will.

And when democracy finally lies in ruins, they will insist they never meant for this to happen.

But history will be less forgiving.

It will remember who opened the door.

And who stood beside it, holding the keys.

  12. CW: CW: transphobia, psychiatric abuse, forced institutionalisation

There is a political project underway to make transgender existence pathological again.

    That distinction matters.

This is not merely about terminology. It is about institutional power: who gets to define a person's identity, whose account of their own existence is considered credible, and what happens when an individual refuses the definition imposed upon them.

The historical pattern is not particularly obscure.
First, difference is classified as disorder.
Then disorder becomes evidence of incapacity.
    Incapacity becomes justification for paternalism.
    Paternalism becomes coercion.

At that point, the institution no longer has to demonstrate that the person is dangerous. It merely has to establish that the person is not sufficiently competent to define themselves.

This is how medical authority can become a technology of social conformity.

And no, putting this process inside a psychiatric framework does not make it benevolent. Calling coercion treatment does not alter its coercive character. Calling confinement care does not make the locked door disappear.

There is a particularly grotesque irony here: people who insist that transgender identities are merely ideological constructions are perfectly willing to construct an elaborate ideological apparatus around the proposition that trans people are mentally defective.

The objective is not scientific neutrality.
    It is disciplinary legitimacy.

So let us dispense with the euphemisms.

If your political programme requires declaring an entire class of people mentally ill because they refuse to live according to your preferred conception of gender, you are not practising medicine. You are practising social control.

And if your proposed remedy is to remove those people from society until they become sufficiently compliant, then the problem is not their supposed pathology.

It is your willingness to manufacture pathology in order to justify their removal.

History has a name for that kind of medicine.

    It is not care.
    It is not neutrality.
And it is certainly not progress.

We have already seen what happens when institutions are given the authority to decide which identities constitute legitimate human existence. We do not owe anyone the opportunity to repeat the experiment on us.

  24. The US State Department has designated the Autistici/Inventati (A/I) collective in Italy a "Specially Designated Global Terrorist" (SDGT). A/I offers a variety of encrypted services to activists and, at least in the immediate term, this designation means, above all, that they're cut off from financial transactions via financial institutions that are based in the US.

I can't say what exactly A/I does or doesn't do (I'm honestly so tech-illiterate that I probably couldn't explain it even if I really knew), but evidently the State Department claims it works with Rose City Antifa and Jane's Revenge.

Ultimately, I can only hope that this kind of thing accelerates the apparent trend away from US-based tech and financial services. These kinds of capricious, politically motivated "terrorist" designations have, in my experience, gotten less attention than the seemingly endless spying and social manipulation that US tech companies do, but they're still dangerous as hell.

I guess I should also mention that I don't actually love this article. Taking the Trump administration at its word when it bloviates about who is or is not a terrorist is a choice. People who do so may be many things, but I'm reluctant to call them journalists. I mean: "The State Department memo also draws a line connecting the collective’s user base to designated terrorist entities including Hamas and Hezbollah." What is this shit? Can we unpack that a little? No? Okay.

Anyways, we'll have to wait and see where this leads...

  25. Maastricht against fascism: Pride & Solidarity

Mosae Forum, Maastricht, zaterdag 27 juni om 10:45 CEST

Today we march together in Maastricht to celebrate PRIDE, diversity and the right of every person to live freely. But PRIDE is more than a celebration. It reminds us that rights are never a given. They are won through struggle and solidarity action.

The fight for LGBTQI+ rights is inseparable from the fight against racism, fascism and the far right. Division and hatred harms us all.

History teaches us that hatred rarely stops with one group. As Pastor Niemöller powerfully said:

"First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out - because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me - and there was no one left to speak for me."

The lesson is clear. When one group is targeted, we all have a responsibility. Silence helps discrimination grow. Solidarity defeats it.

FVD calls transgender laws "against human nature". Maastricht is not immune to pressures from radical right forces. Our city councillor El Fassih is a target of online hate. That is why building unity in our city is important.

    Our answer must be solidarity.
The struggle for LGBTQI and gender rights, migrant justice and racial equality is one shared struggle. None of these movements stand alone. When one advances, all can advance.

Today, let us enjoy our community of freedom. And let us remember that the best defence against hatred is solidarity.

    PRIDE and anti-racism belong together.
    PRIDE and anti-facism belong together.

    Never again means now.

Here is my translation of Maja's statement to the court before the verdict was handed down. There's some pretty weighty stuff in here, but ultimately it is a heartfelt expression of the importance of solidarity from the outside for people serving long prison sentences for bullshit reasons.

A statement from Maja's solidarity committee is posted below.

Also, a nazi "victim" who Maja is accused of attacking gave testimony that contradicted that of an eye witness who saw the whole thing.
