For 22,000 #Vietnamese & some #Cambodians, #CônSơn Island was literally the last stop on a journey that began with their arrest & incarceration on the mainland. Their crime? Resisting #ForeignInvaders du jour & fighting for their country’s independence & unification. In addition to execution, causes of death included disease & torture.
The French built the Côn Đảo prison complex in 1861 to hold #PoliticalPrisoners and handed it over to the South Vietnamese government in 1954. It was a political Alcatraz on steroids, with #inhumane living conditions, barbaric torture methods, no escape and, for many, no survival. The US & its client state collaborators honed this hell on Earth to #dystopian perfection.
Sáu was sent to 3 jails before being shipped to Côn Sơn Prison, because the French didn’t have the courage to carry out her death sentence on the mainland at a time when it was against #ColonialLaw to execute woman. She was the only female prisoner held by the French on Côn Sơn.
Like other Vietnamese who died for the cause of independence, Sáu, a national heroine who is celebrated in theater & song, was elevated to the status of ancestral spirit. Every Vietnamese city & town has a street named after her, as are many schools. She embodies the spirit of millions of Vietnamese throughout history, including soldiers of the First & Second Indochina War, who sacrificed everything, their youth, their health, their love, their personal happiness, & their lives, so that Vietnam could become a unified, sovereign nation.
“The lekima flower in full bloom, we are reminded of a heroine who died for future generations. The young lady so full of vitality fought against our enemies with firm spirit & even death could not force her to yield”. The song echoes in the mind of everybody who visits Hàng Dương cemetary in Côn Đảo district, Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu province. Vo Thi Sau, the #heroine mentioned in the song, was #executed by the #French #colonialists at the foot of Chua mountain in the early morning of January 23, 1952. 60 years later, her immortal patriotism & sacrifice still shine in the heart of every Vietnamese person, particularly those who live on #ConDao island, once called “hell on the earth”. The 20-hectare Hàng Dương cemetery holds the graves of more than 20,000 martyrs, including #revolutionary #martyr Lê Hồng Phong, patriot Nguyễn An Ninh & #hero Cao Văn Ngọc. Visitors are moved to see grave after grave, some named, some unnamed, stretching over the hill. Vo Thi Sau’s grave, set in gravel & soil shoveled by her fellow prisoners, lies in section B.
Sister Sau was already a legend when the ship carrying her docked at Con Dao island in 1952. At the execution, she refused to be blindfolded, wanting to admire the motherland’s landscape & sing until her last breath. Many families on Con Dao island have set up altars to worship sister Sau, whose legend has become eternal in Vietnamese hearts.

Was just chatting with a fellow environmental activist friend on the phone. She reminded me of when Cowichan RCMP were unable to stop a popup protest at the Ramada Inn hotel in Duncan, once we found out it was one of the main hotels hosting RCMP CIRG corporate mercenaries from 2021-2023. It's because RCMP exhausted staffing for ecocidal maniacs & there wasn't enough personnel to shut protest down quickly. They had to get Nanaimo & Campbell River RCMP to come down to shut down protest. Almost every civilian we talked to during the don't house corporate mercenaries protest weren't happy about our tax monies going to pay RCMP CIRG goons. Some didn't know CIRG was only created in 2017 to protect industrial interests over citizens' & environmental interests too.

https://beige.party/@PhoenixSerenity/114966801236825439The #documentary film that I'm featured in is now available for #free viewing:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Rb4q_dXo7BwIt includes footage & shared #deforestation issues with the #Amazon. It's all connected.
I'm holding back tears near the end of it. I was arrested a few days after doing the documentary film interview at gate to River & Landback resistance camps.

Fellow #SaveOldGrowth forest defender, Sheena, made a short film. It includes the jingle dance circle with me & several other #environmental #landback #activists on the bridge between River & Landback resistance camps.
River & Landback camps were main strongholds at Fairy Creek blockade. River camp was the first resistance camp set up in 2020 & it ran for a year before final big raid. There are 2 very rough logging roads that lead up to untouched old growth forest tracts from these camps. River camp is also where people could go hike to see/visit with Grandmother & Grandfather cedars. After we were removed, industry started cutting more roads up into the untouched old growth tracts. Teal Jones logging company has since pulled out due to financial issues & everything is up in the air at this time. Temporary deferral was renewed this year for some tracts by this one particular area in the watershed. Still hoping for permanent protections as the elder trees are not included in this small deferral.
"My student documentary on the Fairy Creek/Ada'itsx old growth forest blockade 🌲 something of a collage, made with many hands and hearts. While the blockade and movement has evolved and gone through many stages, the momentum remains and many still carry forth the activism in heart and deed."

*In case you missed reading this when it was first published last year.*
#Canada’s #NationalParks Are #Colonial #CrimeScenes.
Many see wilderness as a right of citizenship. But the concept of Canada as untouched #nature is unrecognizable to #Indigenous people
In 2017, it felt like the whole country was swept up in the rah-rah celebrations around Canada 150. It was a collective anniversary, a chance to celebrate our history. Well, some of it, anyway. Tied to the many calls to explore the country and take stock of its many wonders, #ParksCanada released its Discovery Pass, which granted free entry to all national parks that year. These natural spaces “represent the very best that Canada has to offer,” it announced in a press release. “They are the essence of our country because they tell stories of who we are, including the history, cultures and contributions of Indigenous peoples.” But, as Robert Jago explored in his timely essay, Canada’s parks program was built on the displacement of Indigenous peoples and the capture of their territories—a form of “green colonialism.” Parks are wonderful spaces, but they have also acted as #political cover for the control of land, a tactic we still see used today.—Daniel Viola, senior editor, November 2023 issue.

My frontlines interview with Donna Clark from #XRVancouver has finally uploaded.
I talk about why I'm at the blockades. I talk about the ecocide on my family's matriarch homelands. I talk about the devastating & longterm effects of the US invasion on Vietnam. I talk about how we need to protect/study/find more ancient forest medicines. I talk about colonialism & brutalities. I talk about my amazing resilient villager relations. I talk about how ecocide destroyed my matriarch village ways of life.
I also bring up the sellouts.
We were carpet bombed by #USA #racist terrorists. Fact.
Please take the time to listen to what I have to say. Thank you for those who care enough to listen to me & why I keep fighting for a better world - for all of us.

With #SisterFriends at frontlines. Warrior POC women against ongoing colonial ecocide. I had not slept for 3 days & had not bathed in 8 days at that time. I was chaining myself to bridge & other infrastructure for over a week. I had experienced over 50 RCMP CIRG raids by this time & refused to stop fighting back. We, war survivors, do not back down from colonial forces easily.

Standoff between unarmed peaceful activists & militarized #RCMPCIRG - employed by #BCgovernment using #BCcitizens tax monies - in middle of the night. It was raining almost all day/night. Frontliners didn't budge ✊️

#VicPD asking us to move from BC Ministry of Environment & Climate offices. We refused to vacate. We shutdown building for 6 hours.

Awaiting to be arrested (again) at HeliCamp - named because it was only camp that could take out activists via #helicopter.
This was a very remote, high up in mountain valley resistance camp that I first got death threats from one unhinged logger, from Lake Cowichan & told by one RCMP CIRG guy that I deserve to be raped.
2021 was a helluva year!

Who are the #DomesticTerrorists here?
The unarmed #environmental activists or the state funded, militarized #RCMP #CIRG unit?
Who is the one fighting for humanity & protection of our ecosystems?
Who is protecting the profits only interests of ecocidal corporations & the sellout politicians?
Tell me - who are the real domestic terrorists that you see in these #photos.

Part of the #RCMP #CIRG #DomesticTerrorists who violated multiple laws with impunity. This was taken about an hour before another very violent raid.

Staying calm while #RCMP #CIRG chumps surround & threaten you is #HumanityInAction. Most female environmental activists have more bravery than all #RCMP across #Canada 🙌
