For people who like to blame women for not trying to get help from cops - you don't understand why many women won't call cops ever again. You'd rather keep blaming women than trying to understand why most of us would never trust cops again.
I'd rather die fighting off someone attacking me than calling any cops for help. I'm far from the only non-white woman who feels that way in 2026.

Listen more to the voices of pregnant oppressed Indigenous women & less to voices of unoppressed non-Indigenous women. The former have valid, justified fears of hospitals because of the fact that countless pregnant Indigenous women received involuntary surgeries to render them unable to give birth again. Others had their babies stolen from them, without consent or any prior consultations. I've listened to many personal horror stories about this - from my mid-20s to now.

Canada only ended its cultural genocide/eugenics on Indigenous on paper. They never really stopped their attempts to genocide Indigenous peoples. I am not being dramatic about this. It is a fact. A fact that almost all settlers conveniently choose to ignore.

This is now the 3rd time that federal government has severely fucked up & demanded my Mom - who has been fucking retired early since Summer of 2020 - to pay them back funds she's eligible for. First time they fucked up was in 2022 & it took 9 months for feds to admit they fucked up & they had to send Mom retroactive payments while we were planning Dad's funeral. 2nd time they fucked up was 1 year after & they stopped her OAS payments & also threatened her with stopping all federal benefits that she earned from working her entire life after coming to Canada as a war refugee in November 1980.
It took over 11 months for feds to stop threatening my family for yet another one of their admin fuck ups. Their big fuck ups end up putting more traumas on our backs. Yes - we are fucking ANGRY.

I guess this would help explain how some people in the US can be longtime Star Trek fans but react so negatively to women and BIPOC in principal roles.

The results of the study at the link above found that people who held strong racial or gender stereotypes would not believe in the intelligence or capabilities of characters that confounded their expectations.

It’s disappointing and discouraging but, unsurprising validation of how deeply embedded is both unconscious and conscious bias.

I’m also concerned that these kinds of findings may encourage studio executives and schedulers to pander to prejudice rather than continuing to advance representation as a means to challenge prejudice and bias.

#RCMP issued an #apology on September 7, 2024, for the historic use of #StreetChecks and other harmful interactions with members of the #African #NovaScotian community. It was an apology too long in coming, for treatment that was, in the words of Rev. Lennett Anderson, “dehumanizing and tragic.” And the RCMP's history suggests we should be deeply skeptical that the proposed action plan will be even close to what is required to remedy these grave injustices.

In his 2019 report, written for the #NovaScotia #HumanRights Commission, Dr. Scot Wortley defines street checks as any occasion in which civilians are stopped by #police and subjected to intrusive questions, and their personal information collected into a database. He confirmed what community members have known for years: people of African descent in the #Halifax region are almost six times more likely to face street checks.

It took five years after the release of this report for the RCMP to apologize for the harms caused. They also committed to an action plan, developed in consultation with members of 13 African Nova Scotian communities and the Association of #Black #SocialWorkers.

In this article we focus on missing and murdered #Indigenous women, girls, and #2SLGBTQQIA people in Canada. We theorize narratives that police employ to respond to this violence. Using a broad data sample of #testimonies across Canada, this article contributes to understanding how police (in)actions make sense of, justify, and dismiss violence against Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA people. We draw from 48 in-depth semi-structured interviews with Indigenous peoples in Toronto and other Canadian cities and 219 testimonies from the Canadian National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (NIMMIWG). The #analysis finds that police repeatedly use similar frames (topics), styles (linguistic and behavioral strategies), and storylines (narratives) to respond to violence against Indigenous peoples. While framing Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA people as deviants helps police make sense of and explain violence against them, the use of verbal and behavioral strategies (indifference, callousness, and lack of information) and storylines (“they were [insert pathologizing frame]” and “there’s nothing we can do”) allows police to dismiss and justify acts of violence. We argue that the frames, styles, and storylines employed by police perpetuate violence. Police (in)actions are fundamental to achieving settler #colonialism’s ideological and material dimensions.

Did I deny that abuse happens? No.

I asked for evidence that #CivilAssetForfeiture is used to perpetuate #SystematicRacism. I questioned how seizing wealth of poorest people keeps abusive police departments afloat.

Nobody has shown the breakdown of $68B between black and non-black people cited above.

I am questioning the narrative that #CivilAssetForfeiture is evidence of #SystematicRacism and has been put in place to incentivize police to fund racist Police departments.

Sounds a lot like accusing LE going after terrorists and suicide bombers as going after #Muslims

The notion of #police being there to #ServeAndProtect in times of need often does not apply to #Indigenous, #Black or other #RacializedMinorities in #Canada. The notion of “help” more often resembles harm.
