One of the biggest hurdles in researching #history is being objective when it comes to #indigenous practices.

How does one reconcile the #cruelty of collecting kambo (frog toxin used for as a ritual drug) with the #traditional aspect of the practice?

Do I say neutrally: "Indigenous people of X collect Y to help with luck in hunting." and thereby omit the fact that this is a potentially questionable practice?

Or do I write: "Y is collected through inducing a forced stress response in Z, which is, by indigenous standards, necessary for facilitating practice A"

(FYI, I purposely used a tame subject).

Perhaps proper #historians have an answer to this?

The Hickleton Skulls.

In the Northwest lychgate of Hickleton church is an inset in the wall with the skulls of three alleged sheep rustlers.

However, the truth is a little less romantic - they were placed there in 1880 by the 2nd Viscount Halifax and are a memento mori. The skulls were given by local medical students.

There's currently a campaign running to inter the skulls and replace them with fake replicas as it is unlikely that the poor victims ever consented to this (in very much the same way as many medical skeletons have now been interred as the person's skeleton was being used without prior consent).

meine queere geschichte in bayern und muenchen

meine persönliche Geschichte

1969, im Jahr von Stonewall und der Milderung des §175 nach der Verschärfung durch die Nazis 1934, hatte ich in Altötting, einer gefühlten Kleinstadt 100 Kilometer östlich von München, mit 15 Jahren eine erste heimliche Beziehung mit einem Freund, ohne dass wir dafür wirklich Worte gehabt hätten …

1972 ging ich zum Studium nach München und wagte mich kaum an gefährliche Orte, von denen ich zwar mit der Zeit eine Ahnung hatte, aber keine wirkliche Vorstellung: Im Lexikon für Theologie und Kirche stand die Homosexualität als unheilbare Krankheit, und ich studierte Religionspädagogik und kirchliche Bildungsarbeit.

Am Ende des Studiums 1976 erlebte ich in Vezelay, in Frankreich die erste christliche Kommune, die auch offen mit Beziehungen und schwulem Leben umging, bald darauf landete ich mit Freundinnen in einem lesbischen Lokal und bei Festen im Verein für sexuelle Gleichberechtigung VSG, wurde dann 1977? Mitglied und arbeitete im Beratungstelefon Rat und Tat mit.

Dann war ich kurze Zeit im kirchlichen Dienst, bis Kardinal Ratzinger den kirchlichen Aufbruch der 1970er Jahre um 1981 zurückdrehte, die Abrechnung damit dazu steht in meinem Büchlein, dem Ketzerbrevier

Da ich schon während meines Zivildienstes eine Schauspiel-Ausbildung gemacht hatte, und im Theater die tollsten Erlebnisse wie mit Therese Giehse gehabt hatte, war das Forumtheater aus dem Theater der Unterdrückten von Augusto Boal, der 1981 mit arbeitslosen SchauspielerInnen in München inszenierte, der Weg in meine Zukunft der nächsten 50 Jahre: Theaterpädagogik bundes- und europaweit.

Daneben war ein Theaterprojekt in der Münchner Aidshilfe, der Aufbau der Gruppe zur Sterbebegleitung dort, die zur Mitarbeit im Institut für Sexologische Fortbildung (vor allem für medizinische und psychologische Berufe) führte, meine sexualpädagogischen Erfahrungen erweiterte und auch der bewusste Aufbruch in die Bisexualität.

Von langjähriger Freundschaft mit Robert Jungk und Kollegen, der die Zukunftswerkstätten entwickelt hatte, sowie der Mitarbeit in der AG SPAK, den sozialpolitischen Arbeitskreisen der Studierendengemeinden, kam ich 1997 über die Pädagogik der Unterdrückten von Paulo Freire und Heldenreisen zur Gestalttherapie– Ausbildung und in die Fortbildung in Leibgestalt und Supervision in Gruppen wie Quarterly – neben der Verantwortung in Selbsthilfe und Selbstorganisation sowie im Netzwerk Gemeinsinn.

In vielen Jahren Freiberuflichkeit mit Aufträgen in allen Regionen des Landes, in etlichen europäischen und mit Partnerschaften in amerikanischen Ländern konnte ich viele Bewegungen und Einrichtungen von innen kennenlernen, die mit der Freude an neuen Entwicklungen arbeiteten.

Bayern und München sind anders

In den Zeiten der Dämonen und der Verfolgung durch die Höllen-Ängste, die Kirchen-Moral, dann der Nazis und weiter in der Adenauer-Zeit wieder mit der Moral der Kirchen: Queere Verfolgungsgeschichte wirkt noch weiter. Nicht nur in den alten Biografien: Verquere moralische Vorstellungen sind weltweit noch am Werk …

Queere Geschichte in Stadt und Land, in Berufsgruppen und kulturellen Prägungen, in Sittengeschichte und Verfolgung, in medizinischen und psychologischen, auch religiösen Sichtweisen und ihre verbliebenen Tabus: Befreiungsbewegungen

Seit den Jahren um 1969, der ersten Lockerung des §175, sind viele Gruppen und Vereine entstanden, auch die amerikanische Bewegung von Stonewall bis in die Army wirkte sich aus.

Stadtleben

„Stadtluft macht frei“ war eine alte Hoffnung, die viele vom Land in die Stadt zog, vom Leben als Knecht oder Tagelöhner, nachdem die Leibeigenschaft 1808 auch formal aufgehoben wurde, und das Leben in der Anonymität der großen Stadt und der Offenheit der Auswahl in den Gaststätten, so weit man sich diese leisten konnte: Später zum Studium, an die Hochschulen.

Landgruppen

Auch auf dem Land gab es verschwiegene Treffpunkte und Wirtschaften, Bahnhofstoiletten und Gelegenheiten, Stadtparks und Wäldchen, Friseure und Gerüchte … – aber auch Kontakte über Orte und Städte hinaus

Hindernisse

Angststörungen, vom Leben im Versteck zum offenen Auftreten in Freundeskreis, Familie und Beruf Grenzverletzungen, psychische Folgen von Übergriffen, Pädophilie, Gewalt in Beziehungen Macht und Missbrauch, Autoritäten und Gewalt-Situationen der Erziehung, Verfolgungserfahrungen, Migration

Traumatisierungen und die Lösung von alten Knoten: Erinnerungen, die weh tun oder Panik auslösen, in die Präsenz bringen, auf wirkliche weitere Wirkung befragen und untersuchen, braucht erfahrene Gesprächspartner*innen, die den Mut zu den Themen Beziehungen und Sexualitäten aufbringen, in der Ausbildung fehlte das früher oft, auch bei Ärzten, in der Psychotherapie

in Berufsgruppen

Baader, Friseure und Theater waren schon früher die Anlaufpunkte, wie Kasernen und Klöster, Kirchen und in der Musik … und kluge Frauen wie Hebammen, Schmuserin und Leichenfrau fanden Verständnis, falls sie nicht zu fromm waren, wie manche Ärzt*innen und Seelsorgende. (Unreine Berufe bis zum Friedhof, Prostituierte) und Klappen in den Städten zwischen Fluss und Oper, die öffentlichen Toiletten

Aufarbeitung und Resistenz in Kirchen, Justiz und Polizei

Scham und Schuld, Kleriker-Stand und Dünkel, Berufsgruppen-Solidaritäten und clandestine Gruppen

Queerer Aktionsplan auch für Bayern?

Stand bundesweit in allen anderen Bundesländern und die Situation der Aktionsgruppen in Bayern: Organisationsnetz gebildet, viele Gruppen und ca 30 CSD in mittleren Städten, regionale Stammtische und Selbsthilfegruppen, wachsende Vielfalt der thematischen Gruppen, asexuell und bisexuellund bi+ polyamor, Fetisch, Trans und inter*, Alter, Musik …

Diverse Gruppen der Betriebe, Einrichtungen und Parteien sowie eine „Rosa Liste“ in der Stadt München bereiten Beiträge für Straßenfeste vor, arbeiten an der Theke im diversity-Jugendzentrum (bis 27), im Lez oder sub, auch, um die Offenheit ihrer Einrichtung in der Szene öffentlich zu signalisieren. Die Queere Geschichte arbeitet mehr im Hintergrund, ist aber aktuell bei vielen Kunst-Projekten und in Museen Präsent.

I’m translating volumes of the Annual of Sexual Intermediaries (1899-1923), edited by #Magnus Hirschfeld, and a book by Ferdinand Karsch on the same-sex life of indigenous peoples (1911). The texts are historical accounts of the lives of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, #Transgender and #Intersex people.

Not everyone knows German. "Chen Yaozuo was a #Teochew prime minister & grand tutor of the crown prince of the #SongDynasty (960–1279) in the 11th century. Coming from a family of officials, he was a rising star at the start of his career, until he bravely, or some might say foolishly, answered a call of Emperor Zhenzong for open criticisms by submitting a memorial that spelt out the ills of the times, including matters that no one else dared to speak about. As a result, Chen Yaozuo was banished & demoted to become an assistant prefect in the Teochew prefecture. This happened in 998, almost 180 years after Han Yu of the Tang dynasty suffered a similar fate."

"....Chen Yaozuo was more of a problem-solver than Han Yu, and he knew this. At the same time, he sensed the Teochew people’s deep admiration for his fellow Confucian. Cleverly capitalising on this, Chen Yaozuo erected a shrine in honour of Han Yu and he used it to commence his own programme to promote education among what was still a backward population. In pursuit of this goal, the Sichuan native also set up a Confucian temple and places of learning, while identifying and encouraging able families to send their children to schools.

Chen Yaozuo left Teochew after three years of devoted service to its people. He subsequently revealed in an inscription presented to a study room in Zhangpu (a county in Fujian adjacent to Teochew prefecture) that his time in Teo-yor was passed without major worries, despite it being enveloped in miasma."

"Chen Yaozuo’s heart remained with the place even many years after his departure. His poem below, “A note to Registrar Li Zi in Chaoyang” (送潮陽李孜主簿), illustrates this:

#Chinese #historians credit Han Yu for starting what we may call a #revolution through #literacy in Teochew. Yet the extent of Chen Yaozuo’s tireless contributions towards this cause can be seen by its fruits. Before his arrival, the Teochew prefecture produced only three men who attained the status of jinshi, the highest scholarly title awarded by the Chinese imperial court since the late 6th century. By the end of Song, the records show more than 170 jinshi from Teochew, of whom about a third came from Teo-yor.

Beyond scholarly titles, the creation of an educated class sparked a golden age in Teochew with accelerated advancements in agriculture and industry that ended its days as a backwater."

I'm translating volumes of the Annual of Sexual Intermediaries (1899-1923), edited by #MagnusHirschfeld, and a book by Ferdinand Karsch on the same-sex life of indigenous peoples (1911). The texts are historical accounts of the lives of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, #Transgender and #Intersex people. Not everyone knows German.
