That’s because in July 2020, Canada filed a Motion to Strike against the Misdzi Yikh Charter challenge. Several years and an appeal hearing (that ended with the Federal Court of Appeal deciding that the section 7 of the Charter challenge was justiciable) later, Canada has filed for another Motion to Strike. "During the sentencing hearing this week, defence lawyer Rebecca McConchie said the chief's actions needed to be understood in the context of 'the oppression of Wet'suwet'en people in colonial history and the ongoing issues with #UncededLand.'
"The defence said the criminal contempt case punished the chief 'for upholding #IndigenousLaw because doing so breached a #colonial court order.'

#ChiefDtsahyl, also known as Adam Gagnon, was convicted of criminal contempt for publicly and willfully defying a court order to stay away from Coastal GasLink's pipeline construction.
According to the judgment, Chief Dtsa'hyl appeared in social media videos and called the court injunction obtained by #CoastalGasLink "bogus as hell" because the Wet'suwet'en owned and had #jurisdiction over the territory through which the pipeline was being built.
Chief Dtsa'hyl testified that as a leader, he had a duty to protect Wet'suwet'en land, water, burial sites, and historic trails from the degradation of pipeline construction. He said his actions against Coastal GasLink upheld the traditional Wet'suwet'en law of trespass.
The court heard that Chief Dtsa'hyl is 68 years old and has recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 lymphoma.

2/8/2024RENO, Nev. (AP) — "Federal wildlife officials have agreed to conduct a full, year-long review to determine whether a tiny #snail found only in high-desert springs near a huge lithium mine being built along the #Nevada- #Oregon line should be listed as a threatened or #endangered species.
"The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said in a finding published Thursday in the Federal Register that enough scientific exists to warrant the review sought by environmentalists who say that groundwater pumping required for the operation of the #ThackerPass mine could push the #KingsRiver pyrg to the brink of extinction.
"However, the agency said in the new finding it 'does not anticipate the species is immediately at risk.'
"The @WesternWatershedsProject argued in its formal petition for the listing in September 2022 that the tiny snail no bigger than the tip of a ball-point pen was imperiled even before any new mining was contemplated due to livestock grazing, round-building and the anticipated impacts of #ClimateChange."

Over the past few weeks, I have had my motives questioned on more than one occasion; simply because I dared to post information about projects that directly impact my community. We have become a society of mistrust, not just in our government but in our fellow community members. But what is all of this based on?
Well for me, I am sure it stems from the fact that I ran in the state election last year. I mean, how dare a member of the community run in an election to represent her community and highlight issues affecting them. How dare she stand up for what she believes in. How dare she try her best to ensure we receive the funding and investment we deserve in the West. How dare she run for a party that seeks an end to speciesism!
And that is where I believe all of this really stems from - that last sentence.
