"The #Novador #OpenPit gold mine project is happening on Lac Simon First Nation’s ancestral territory, about 400 kilometres north of #Ottawa.
"The project is in the exploration phase, where the company is taking core samples from the ground to determine the location of gold deposits. Drilling stopped weeks ago when Lac Simon issued an eviction notice to Mexican #mining company #Fresnillo.
" 'Nature is slowly coming back, but if you listen, do you hear anything? Birds, no?' says Wabanonik. 'There’s nothing moving around the area when there’s drilling happening.'
"Wabanonik says the Novador project was approved without Lac Simon’s consent. Now the community is turning to the courts."
