  2. Who should really be the provider in a relationship? Man or Woman.

According to this video, Gheghe said if you have a closer look at the lion, you will notice that the lion doesn't provide for the lioness and the cubs, but only protects the pride by warding off intruders (other males) from the territory, or at the worst cost, lays down their life for the survival of the territory, and mates with the lioness—that is the only duty of the lion. The lioness provides food, so they are good at hunting.

He also used a kitchen (fowl) as an example, saying that the hen is the one providing for the chicks, not the cock; the cock only mates and secures the territory. This is the most educative Gheghe content I have watched so far, and it's worth watching.

Tell me your take on this.

language used in the video: Mix of Pidgin English and British English.

  6. Note so self, be very careful to begin discussions on language.

Most of my country still thinks the "Duitse bloed" in out anthem refers to Germany as we know it today, but explaining that it comes from "Duytsch" (and in fact is written as such in the original lyrics) which includes The Netherlands results in people still "correcting" about it 2 days later. Corrections which are almost all of them entirely in line with what I said, but add some info or focus more on a different detail 🥲.

And no, they're not meant as additions as they literally start with "you are wrong". I think at this point I'm just gonna step out of the conversation and hope notifications stop soon as the comment section it was on has no mute button 😑.

  7. A Twenty five Hour Investment for a Book Club

    Reading Time: < 1 minute

Yesterday I was struck by the irony of spending twenty five hours reading a book for a discussion in a book club, and then the conversation falling into a rat hole. A rat hole is a term to describe when a conversation gets sidetracked or distracted.

Of course we discussed themes in the book, but not the breadth of topics. In theory skimming the book would have returned the same thing as reading the book properly.

I’m not discounting the value of reading the book, but rather thinking of the value of choosing a shorter book, rather than a long one. With a short book you read 50 pages per week, and within four weeks you’re done. With Secret of Secrets you read 650 pages, and you spend two hours discussing a book that took 25 hours or more to read.

I’m also struck by how little there was to discuss in a sense. It’s 670 pages, and a thriller, but I feel that there is less to dissect with plenty of other, shorter books. I don’t know whether others feel the same way.

I expected that I would come out of the conversation with a blog post ready. Instead I came back with “Next time we need to read a shorter book”.

    Anyone else have that experience?
