Happy Wednesday, and I hope you’re doing okay in the heat.

It was hard to settle down in the chaos, between a Senate seat being handed to a dead senator’s sister (who has no experience), the refusal of a Dem governor to find out the truth about another senator’s death, the debate about merging our military with Israel’s (which is beyond insane), and That Thing declaring that both Georgia senators didn’t legally win their elections. I’m tired of politicians shrugging and saying, “vote harder” and then we do, and the corrupt still get away with everything, while murdering people in the streets. I’m disgusted even with the elected officials I usually like. And I let them know.

But I had to focus, even as some excellent opportunities landed on my desk. Which is nice, after the slew of ridiculous ones that came through these past weeks.

I started playing with an idea for a commission pitch. It’s tied into something I’ve always wanted to explore, and I think I’ve now found a way in.

I struggled to concentrate on the ghostwriting. I’m almost there – and I have to be there by today.

I received the edits for the anthology story, and will get to work on them as soon as the ghostwriting is out the door, and get the edits back to my editor by Friday. They are minor tweaks and a few clarifications, so there shouldn’t be a problem. Even with in Mercury Retrograde!

One of my friends sent me the notes on her read-through of the rough assembly of I WILL BE DIFFERENT. The notes are excellent, and it gives me lots to think about, with quite the dilemma of which roads to take moving forward with this.

We managed to keep it at a reasonable temperature inside, while outside temps got up to 92, but at least it wasn’t 96. The highest it got, in the early evening, inside was 82, which is about the top range for comfort. It got more and more humid, however. The haze from the Canadian wildfires presses down on us, too, turning the sky eerie colors. I may need to run the air purifier at some point.

I let Charlotte have her disco light show for 20 minutes, and fell asleep with the cooler on a timer. I woke up around 3:30 and it was sticky. I moved to the sofa, fell immediately asleep again and slept through until 5:30. Got the fans going. It was still 82 inside, and already 78 outside, which does not bode well for our comfort levels today, even though it’s only supposed to get up to 88. It is supposed to cool down nicely tonight, so I should be able to get things comfortable again for tomorrow, but today might be a slog.

Morning routine was fine, and I outlined the entire play for the commission pitch in the morning free-write session. The ending turned out differently than I anticipated, but I think it will pack a punch if I can pull it off.

Today, I have to prep 20-page excerpts from two different plays which were requested, consider which play will go to a submission window opening early in August (I’m pretty sure I know what I’ll send), and work on the commission pitch (which includes 15 pages of the play itself), which I will probably finish over the weekend. AFTER I send off the ghostwriting assignment and figure out when the next one is due. I need to turn my attention back to the radio series this week, too.

That’s the latest, trying to juggle it all, and grateful that I have these opportunities. Definitely not complaining about any of it. Just hope I can meet the mark.
