My mind raced back to British jurist, Lord Denning who famously declared in 1964: “Justice has no place in darkness or secrecy. When a judge sits on a case, he himself is on trial… If he is suspicious, biased, or unfair, then the judge is the one who is condemned in the eyes of public opinion.” But these words of wisdom seem not to have any meaning to Justice Lifu, shockingly, a former lecturer of Public and International Law, University of Ibadan. I've been wittering on about the history and failings of Meritocracy, but I hadn't drafted a version for Substack.

🇷🇴 Romania’s president, Nicușor Dan, was one of the 11 students to solve the legendary Problem 6 at the 1988 IMO.
He scored a perfect 42/42 that year, alongside future Fields Medalist 🇻🇳 Ngô Bảo Châu. 🇨🇦 Ravi Vakil also solved it.
🇦🇺 Terence Tao, aged just 13, got 1/7 on that problem, aced almost everything else, and still won a gold medal. @tao
In fact, Dan won two consecutive perfect-score gold medals at IMO (1987 & 1988).
