    Watch how #Adaptation is used by the #FossilFuelIndustries and the #ExtractiveIndustries as well as the #RentierClass as a #ClimateChangeSceptic tool using #CorporateMedia and literally pull the wool over our eyes while they strip-mine all wealth from our collective hands…

    Wake up time people…

  2. * The right-wing feeds on division.

    * The left should grow from trust.

    That sounds like #KISS because it is. But this simple truth is buried under decades of ideological shit: #Stalinism's dead weight, #Postmodernism's fog, #Neoliberalism's rot, and now the wider social, political and technological mess they have all helped leave behind.

    We don't need to pretend this history didn't happen. We need to understand it,
    then we need to compost it, turn the pile, let it breathe, pull apart the assumptions.

    Keep what is useful, let the rotten parts decay, turn all that accumulated failure into something fertile.

    Because the alternative to the right-wing politics of fear, division and permanent culture war is not just another set of slogans.

    It is trust, not being nice to everyone. Trust is built through doing things together, being accountable, showing your working, admitting mistakes, sharing power and staying around long enough to learn from failure.

    * That is why the #commons matters.

    * That is why the #openweb matters.

    And that is why the demand to “use the proper channels” is so often a trap.

    * Who owns those channels?

    * Who wrote the rules?

    * Who staffs the committees?

    * Who decides what counts as legitimate?

    Too often the machinery of #mainstreaming is designed to absorb dissent without allowing dissent to change anything. You submit the form, attend the consultation, become a stakeholder, write the response, wait for the committee.

    You get thanked for your valuable contribution and then nothing changes. The energy is drained away, and the existing power remains exactly where it was. This is not always a conspiracy. It doesn't need to be. Systems reproduce power simply because that is what they have been designed to do.

    And this is what really scares the #fashionistas and #mainstreaming crew about grassroots alternatives: We don't need them. We can walk away, build our own infrastructure, our own media. We build trust through doing things together - that is the important bit.

    The answer isn't to create another closed alternative controlled by another small group of experts. That would just be more of the same, the answer is open process, the #4opens.

    This is where #OMN fits, not as another shiny platform competing for attention, but as part of a longer #openweb reboot: grassroots news, archiving and eventually governance built around federation, trust, participation and shared infrastructure.

    We don't need to win their game, we need to stop playing it. Their machine runs on division, attention, status and extraction. Our alternative has to run on participation, trust, memory, care and shared power.

    So yes, there is a huge pile of shit in front of us. Social shit, political shit, technological shit, institutional shit, funding shit and #techshit.

    We don't deny the pile, we pick up the shovel,
    we turn it over, we compost it. And we use whatever fertile ground comes out of it to grow something living.

    That's the work, together.

  8. Another alarm - When #fascism becomes institutionalised in #Germany

    The far-right Alternative für Deutschland (#AfD) has led most German national polls since April last year. It is comfortably ahead in eastern Saxony-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and is even second in famously liberal Berlin.

    Under Germany’s proportional representation threshold, which excludes parties that capture less than 5% of the vote, a score in the low-to-mid 40s could quite conceivably secure AfD an absolute majority in the Saxony-Anhalt parliament.

    ...there’s another dimension to a possible AfD victory in Saxony-Anhalt that deserves a closer look. For decades, Germany’s political parties have operated a so-called “Brandmauer”, or firewall, to prevent the normalisation of far-right extremism.

    First, as The Economist argued, by making the AfD a political pariah, the Brandmauer has in effect insulated the party from the compromises and failures of government. With no need to deliver actual results, it can promise voters whatever it likes (and it does).

    Second, as the German academic Alexander Görlach observed, the firewall has “hollowed-out” the centre: to build majorities excluding the far right, the #CDU has had to enter “Grand Coalitions” with its historic adversary, the centre-left #SPD.

    Over time, this constant reliance on uncomfortable alliances and ideological compromise has blurred the distinctions between the mainstream parties, reinforcing the AfD’s line that the establishment forces are carbon-copy “cartel parties”.

    In 2018, four years before he became CDU leader, Merz promised to halve the AfD’s score. Since then, it has almost doubled. As elsewhere in Europe, shifting rightward, notably on immigration, has served only to validate the far right’s agenda.

    AfD could access German intelligence data if it forms state government

    A right-wing opposition party cannot be legally barred from accessing German intelligence data if it forms a state government following regional elections, according to a constitutional law expert cited by the Welt newspaper on Monday.

    Constitutional law expert Christoph Degenhart stated that excluding a state government formed by the Alternative for Germany (AfD) from intelligence information systems is practically impossible from a legal standpoint, Welt reported.

  14. How many **Warnings** do economists, politicians, and political advisers need to be given? We’ve had over **40 years** of *BS* telling us *unregulated* markets performs best and deliver wealth for everyone. Sill, #NeoLiberalism has a chokehold on our economy, against all the evidence and past experiences which show us otherwise. How many warnings? How many do we need before we *re-regulate* ?

    “Operating outside the banking system and largely unregulated, private credit is an industry that has many worried, particularly if there is a severe stock market correction or economic downturn.

    ASIC has been concerned for some time about the incredible growth in private credit, not just local funds but international funds seeking cash from Australians.

    A fortnight ago it issued warnings, advising funds to ensure their valuations were "current, accurate and grounded in realistic assumptions". (Source: abc.net.au/news/2026-08-04/pro

    The old adage is still valid: If a deal looks too good to be true, that’s because it is. A *warning* to small investors often discounted by those under the spell of snake oil merchants.

  15. Opposing Modes of Production? Is There Really a Struggle Between Capitalism and Socialism?

    There is already talk of a new global economic model, the product of a series of unfortunate events. Some consider it the Sixth Republic, others the Scientific Revolution. What is certain is that it is a Humanist Revolution that pursues the well-being and social justice of all human beings and was proposed by Delcy Rodríguez at the Global Revo Union. Later, Donald Trump, Xi Jinping, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Claudia Sheinbaum, Pedro Sánchez, Miguel Díaz-Canel, and Gustavo Petro joined the movement.

  16. @dyckron My rough understanding of #neoliberalism is that it is social liberalism mixed with fiscal conservatism. Or maybe it is closer to tokenism? Maybe #neoliberals want the appearance of being progressive while stalling, diverting, and drafting programs virtually impossible to qualify for. Or better yet, fixed quotas on the number of people being helped by a program or only helping out a population that is popular.

  17. @nini @ChrisMayLA6 I don't hold with calling voters "idiots". I can't see any merit in that.

    Just at the simplest human level, calling people idiots alienates them. Badly. #HilaryClinton tried that, and it didn't work out well for her.

    But also, sneering at voters distracts from building the routes to change. How to counter the propaganda of the billionaire media? How to teach people about #imperialism and #RentSeeking and #neoliberalism?

    Better to help people rethink than to sneer.

    We have been stripped morally naked by the last 40 years of the #deathcult. Every assumption that we lived in a tolerant, “good” world is slipping away. The growing #classwar was historically balanced to stop the possibility of a socialist takeover, as blinded liberals see this, two accidents: a temporary ecosystemic surplus and a temporary post-WWII settlement. 29. "There is not one kind of Trump voter. Of course there are the Nazis, the alt-right, the hyper-misogynist and hyper-racist—all those who feast on Trump’s wild promises, noxious insults, and boorish ways. There are those animated by hatred for the “libs,” whose contempt or mere disregard they absorb daily. There are Christians, Zionists, and even (late-breaking) Muslims who expect Trump to serve their cause better than the Biden–Harris regime did. There are those who want the southern border of the country fortified and recent migrants deported. There are small business owners who want lower taxes and fewer restrictions, and former mining and industrial workers who want jobs that would pay what union-protected ones did.

    But none of them fully account for Trump’s historic triumph—the first Republican presidential candidate to win the popular vote since 2004. What does? Three things: Trump’s economic populism in a context in which the Democrats have become the party of the elite; the exhaustion of liberal democracy as a viable or trusted form; and the destruction of education, especially higher education, in the United States."

  32. Zapatista Stories for Dreaming An-Other World

    "In this gorgeous collection of allegorical stories, Subcomandante Marcos, idiosyncratic spokesperson of the Zapatistas, has provided “an accidental archive” of a revolutionary group’s struggle against neoliberalism. For thirty years, the Zapatistas have influenced and inspired movements worldwide, showing that another world is possible. They have infused left politics with a distinct imaginary—and an imaginative, literary, or poetic dimension—organizing horizontally, outside and against the state, and with a profound respect for difference as a source of political insight, not division. With commentaries that illuminate their historical, political, and literary contexts and an introduction by the translators, this timeless, elegiac volume is perfect for lovers of literature and lovers of revolution."
