## The Corruptibility of Economics in Political OfficeWhen perfectly reasonable and erudite people enter politics, especially in the rarified atmosphere of their parliamentary caucus and Cabinet, they are sucked into a maelstrom of economic falsehoods from which there is no escape.
Our cries and hopes for *real change* are lost in the noise of financial chaos, political survival struggle, and the promise of golden parachutes (a charicature of many religions). That, in essense, explains why we keep getting **more of the same** no matter whom we elect, no matter which side of politics wins govt.
I sit here in Australia pining for *change*, as you do in the UK, where politicians from all political persuasions are thoroughly assimilated by the dominating economic system and at the beck and call of the *markets first* perspective as if their very lives where at stake. They simply cannot hear their communities, they’ve been zombified by NeoLiberal bollocks,
Yet I still hope for a political movement whose members are resilient to assimilation, capable of imagining more equitable economic systems, and with resolute strength to bring them about. Sadly, given my electorate, that hope forlorne.

@ChrisMayLA6 If Burnham's goal was ending #neoliberalism, then his decade of helping international capital run amok in Manchester's monopoly board of property wasn't a great training ground. Nor was his previous 2 decades as Blair's pet northerner.
So even if Burnham has indeed repented of 30 years of neoliberalism, he has no plan for how to undo it.
Changes this big require more planning that a few notes written on the back of a pack of crisps at Wigan Pier.

## Even Green Politicians are Infected with Economic Mandacity
How is this, from Prof. Richard Murphy? In a very few words he captures the economic slight-of-hand which ensures our consent and erases any possibilty that the future will be anything else but **more of the same**. Because, economists tell us, there are no alternative, it is what it is, and there nothing anyone can do about it. Just accept it and live as best you can.

But if every available government accepts the same constraints, protects the same interests and offers variations on the same policies, the possibility of meaningful change is excluded before political debate has really begun. I understand that. Because it can really seem that the governments aka nanny state are not only failing to remedy the imperfections of the market, but are actively distributing from the bottom to the top via corruption and elite clubs.
therefore a "real" market might seem more attractive than corrupt and inefficient governments.
I have just several issues with neoliberalist currents:
1) sometimes people don't want the government investing to help poor people, but actively support the state funneling money into the pockets of the powerful (state contracts for infrastructure, research funding of technologies that are useful for corporations, military and police spending, subsidizing fossil industry, and, among others saving the banks because they are too big to fail)
2) we have seen what privatization of basic infrastructure did. Think about Thames Water, for example, the UK are a prime example.
3) the markets aren't smart enough to not be extractive, burdening "negative externalities" in forms of environmental destruction and societal degradation on society and leaving a scorched earth that won't be able to maintain their businesses in the long-term, while seeking the short-term benefits of exploitation.
4) There are so many things markets cannot take into account (like the endless hours of care work that are performed by unpaid -mostly women- to maintain societies functioning)
There are really good economic theories out there that try to take into account some of these issues, I really recommend the online-book

There were over 160 candidates with PhDs on the list, which was highlighted as a key reason why the new government should be “better” than the old one in which it turned out that even some ministers had fake PhD diplomas. The Student List basically has a technocratic structure and by what we’ve seen so far, it aims to create a “government of experts” which is perfectly in line with the dominant neoliberal ideology that convinces us that the society will be better as a whole if we have experts leading the government.
For us as anarchists, this of course is a fairy tale because we know how technocratic governments ended in countries like Italy and Greece in the last 10-15 years, where they simply ushered in the most brutal neoliberal reforms, bringing down the life standard of the working class even more than their predecessors. And this is actually one of the key elements that show us there probably won’t be much improvement in the working class’s life standard.'
