  1. Made #stirfried #chayote & #shrimp with garlic & green onions. We're having it with rice & some goji leaves soup. We grow goji, green onions & garlic in our backyard. My 4th Uncle grows chayote squashes year round - outdoors in Summer & greenhouse in Winter. Shrimp is from a fishing friend. No store needed for the ingredients used 🙂

  6. Is there anybody out there, who still has a X account and able to ask #squashtv for a way to contact them without a X, Facebook or Instagram account? I can't play any video on a Google Streamer 4k and their feedback email in the play store doesn't exist anymore. And there is no way to contact them on their homepage either.

  9. All the cucumbers, melons, squash, and 1 runner bean are up. I thinned everything to 2. When the first cucumber sprouted I looked at the bottom of the pot by chance and noticed there was already a root poking out! The hibiscus has another flower ready to open, the other fell off the same day I noticed it so I guess I missed it for a day or two.

  14. We accidentally created a mutant cross-pollinated squash. I'd heard of this, and perhaps it's happened to us before with the fodder squashes from last season (those were dreadful to me but the pigs didn't care, I thought it was more about where they were grown than their genetics), but this time it's... delightful. Most likely one of our ronde de nice summer squashes crossed with delicata, since those are what happened to grow nearby, and it's sweet like a delicata winter squash but with the texture of a summer squash. It also might be happening with another, since the "zuchinni" growing nearby is, uh, well, it looks like nothing I've seen before. I'll post a thread of mutant squash pictures soon.

In my defense, I didn't think any of this was going to grow, since these seeds were all so old. I let my children seed blast this basin thinking "well, we'll get what we get!" and then nothing germinated for three weeks so I figured it was a lost cause. Then we manured it to prepare it for the next season and, well, now we have six foot long squash vines and more fruit than we're going to know what to do with when it comes time to harvest them. Happy accidents!

  28. Yippie skippy! Picked up about 40-50 pounds of fresh produce today from the monthly Borderland food rescue non-profit. They pick up veggies and fruit stored in big warehouses by the growers in Yuma. It’s all very fresh and donated as long as Borderlands can get a few trucks and drivers and volunteers.

You don’t know from one month to the next what you will have and how much, so they try to spread it through the state taking different locations. In the Valley here there could be 4 and then one in Tucson, 1 in Safford and one in Ajo.

I get to make my spaghetti sauce today! Love it because it cooks half the day and the house smells great. I freeze it in ziplock bags to use all year mixed with canned spaghetti sauce. It always tastes fresh and homemade. Squash, zucchini, bell peppers, melons too. I send half home to our helper’s family.

  35. I'm generally underwhelmed by #SpaghettiSquash when serving it with any pasta sauce recipe I've tried so far (typically tomato based).

Any suggestions for some approach you enjoy where it doesn't taste like a weak substitute for real pasta?
