For a long time, I wondered how the Abbotsford ridings would vote if presented with the worst possible option. This year we found out: Still Conservative. #BCElection2024

It now looks like BC might have just barely avoided sleepwalking into a takeover by an anti-vax, anti-Indigenous, trans-hating, oil-loving, extreme Conservative party. By a few hundred votes. Whatever happens, the BC NDP and the Greens need to sit down together and work out how they are going to make sure we never get that close again. Don't point fingers, just tell us what you're going to do differently next time. #BCpoli #bcelection2024 #bcndp #greens

📢 "Several people affiliated with the group are running as candidates for B.C. Conservatives... they often feature far-right talking points such as climate denialism, referring to COVID protection measures as “totalitarian” and spreading conspiracy theories about the pandemic"

@BCGreens Fursteneau should refuse to negotiate with Eby until he follows his own party's policy and passes mixed member pro rep in the legislature. It will double or triple the greens' seats in the next election, and make a conservative takeover impossible for all time. It would be a brave, cool, democratic thing to do. Bonus: the Vancouver Sun will hate it. #BCpoli #bcgreens #greens #bcelection2024

What should Sonia Fursteneau ask for, when she's bargaining with the NDP or Cons? What should be her red line(s)? Cancel Site C? Cancel LNG? Free transit province-wide? Other stuff?

Sober second thought regarding the #BCelection2024 : the good news is that about 53% of the people that did vote were still willing to vote for nominally progressive parties, and hopefully the final seat count results in a minority government that reflects that. The bad news is that 43% of the people didn't even bother to vote. Participation rates in Canadian elections are becoming bleak. 20 years ago BC elections regularly had a 70% or better turnout.

In short, the BC NDP ran a "let the professionals handle this" Hilary Clinton-style campaign. And guess what? They got a Hilary result. Surprise surprise. The smartest people in that room were not that smart, after all. I'm sure they're working hard right now on figuring out who to point fingers at. I bet it'll be a mix of the Greens and those darn apathetic voters. Why are they apathetic? It's a mystery, BC NDP. It's a mystery. Very complex. #BCpoli #ndp #bcndp #bcelection2024

The BC Greens are just the shits at tactics and strategy. And they refused to take a moral stand on Gaza. Which was like dropping tens of thousands of youth votes at the dump. That's the Greens for ya. #BCpoli #bcgreens #greens #bcelection2024

11 ridings still not called - NDP slight lead in 6, BC Cons in 5
with automatics recounts and mail-in ballots we might not know the final results for a week

This being covered as “other politician slams” instead of “fake doctor” was absurd. Using a protected title as a con artist should be jail time, but instead she is now part of our government.

"As of the time of writing [3 AM], the estimated count seems to show that the BC NDP might finish with 46 seats, the BC Conservatives could get 45, and the BC Greens maybe end up with two. In order to form a majority government, a party needs 47 seats."

BC politics never fail to entertain - it's basically tied, but no matter what, the BC Greens will be King Maker
This is what they should do - don't get a Confidence and Supply agreement (as per 2017), but hold NDP to a parliamentary only vote to get rid of FPTP, go to ranked ballot - if that passes, then yes, negotiate government - if not, new fucking election

Very bittersweet night for BC Greens. Sonia won't win her seat but it looks like two other Greens will.
And it looks like the NDP will be held to minority, which is good...but nearly half the province voted for the lunatic Conservatives which is bad. Feeling very conflicted this evening.

54% turnout is despicable - frankly it's a show up that no party or candidate engaged with what people are actually experiencing daily - and again, to those in parties who got excited about huge advance votes, yeah, your GOTV works, but for that only, you didn't get votes, you got cults
