A work in progress, my remix of labrys, lesbian, transbian, and feminist #iconography is blended through the lens of ancient Greek, Gnostic, African, Afroasiatic, and contemporary cultures of the African Diaspora using classic forms, colors, and symbols.
A central dark lavender 9-point solid or star symbolizing balance with 9 radiating tiers of 9 black triangles.
Lábrys (λάβρυς): White infill with Black outlines with stylized violet flower heads embossed on each side and tiers of radiating rays fanning outward across the blades.
In ancient Crete, the “double-edged axe” is not a weapon, and it always accompanies female goddesses, not male gods.
Note: The handle is based on the stylized bundle of papyrus stems and umbel, often seen in the design of the Sekhem Scepter, an ancient Egyptian metaphysical khthonic symbol of life force or power, immutable, and eternal.

Genau, als wir noch ein Reich waren und eine Reichsbahn hatten war alles besser! Starke Männer konnten als Großväter mit ihren abgefrorenen Gliedern die andächtig lauschenden Enkel nachhaltig traumatisieren und, sollte sie Trauer und Schmerz einmal überwältigen, war es zum Glück noch erlaubt die eigene Frau halb tot zu prügeln.
Aber die Reichsbahn fuhr preußisch pünktlich!

Alissa is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at MacEwan University. Their 2021 book Shifting Food Facts (Routledge Press) examined the shifting food truths of contemporary dietary discourse and was featured in a webinar on CAFS YT: “The Many Truths of Food and Nutrition.” Their current work explores alternative food networks in Alberta.
Alissa currently serves on the Canadian Associate for Food Studies Board in the role of Membership Engagement.
