6:15AM: 47F, a few clouds.
The day is promising to be a sunny one, which is wonderful for everyone enjoying the holiday.
I grew up calling Memorial Day, "Decoration Day." My (grand)parents who raised me were born in 1912 & '13. They were just 3-4 generations removed from the Civil War, where the day originated. I helped Mom put flowers on graves every year.
In that vein, look up "In Flanders Fields." Always touches my heart.

6:00AM: 46F, light rain.
We have a gale heading straight for the island so Sitka is under a high wind advisory from 1-7 today. Gusts up to 40.
And yes....there will be rain.
-
I've been mostly without internet or cell service on my Alaska cruise. I'm still here, though. 😛
Today we stopped in Sitka. I saw a couple of eagles... More pics later.
For now, here I am at a bus/shuttle stop (zoom in a little to see a snow-capped mountain).

6:00AM: 45F, light rain.
Rain on Wednesday, bracketed by "chance of showers" today and Thursday/Friday.
A SE gale in the outside waters tomorrow, which is unusual this time of year.
I've been telling ya: It's November!

5:45AM: 47F, light rain.
It rained all night. Our NWS rain report has been stuck on .01" for a while. I went over to Willy Weather and it has the total rainfall for Sitka in May as 2.4". That makes sense.
I need to get my own rain gauge!

6:00AM: 45F, overcast.
Party sunny today, high of 54F.
We have company coming on Monday, John is fishing today, so I'll be cranking tunes and cleaning.
That's the best part of company: it forces us to become less slovenly. 😉

6:00AM: 40F, partly cloudy.
Fairly good weather (ie. not much rain) until Sunday, when (much) rain comes back into the picture.
-
6:00AM: 45F, light rain.
Showers today, sun comes back Saturday.
Side note: This tourist season is much more stressful right off the bat than in the past.
PEOPLE! When you visit a village/town/city/metropolis....
🚨 CROSS AT CROSSWALKS! 🚨
Do not dart out to jaywalk and "beat traffic" or wander into the street and pause, taking picture after picture.
🚨 AK is in the 21st century...we have cars. Cars that can hit you and absolutely ruin your vacation.

6:30AM: 48F, overcast.
After an especially gorgeous, sunny day yesterday (Yes - even this sun-grouch can appreciate a clear day now and then!) showers and clouds are back in the forecast.
Sun-lovers fear not! It's back in the picture for Saturday.

5:30AM: 38F, fair
The fact that the sky is clear hit home this morning when I woke up at 4:30AM to lots & lots of light....and my brain said, "It's time to get up!!"
Here's my annual grumpy grouse about the sunlit summer in the far North.
It sucks for sleep.
I said what I said.

6:00AM: 44F, clouds are breaking up a bit.
Showers today, clouds this week, rain/showers mid-week on.
In short, a Sitka spring...at least these days.
-
6:30AM: 47F, light rain.
We had a lovely November day yesterday and it looks like another November morn right now.
We sat in the rain and wind yesterday, freezing our asses off, selling baked goods and coffee, but it was worth it. 😍
John swears up & down we had a cold, wet, late spring last year also, that "we were robbed of May." I vaguely remember something like that, but if nothing else, I've learned NOT to trust my weather memory! lol

1977 "Sitka--1830" woodcut prints by Dale DeArmond (1914-2006). That's Baranof Castle on Castle Hill. It burned down in 1894. #alaskahistory #alaska #sitka

6:00AM: 49F, overcast.
It rained off & on last night and will rain off and on today.
At 9:00AM is the 33rd annual SE Alaska Women in Fisheries' (of which I am President) annual Fishermen's Flea Market. SEAWIF will sell baked goods and coffee while fisher men and women bring out their gear to buy/sell/trade.
But mainly is a fisher person BS session. The biggest of the year.
Same size as that fish that got away. 😉
-
6:00AM: 46F, overcast.
Showers, clouds, chance of showers, rain.
Rinse, repeat.
Happy dance from me.
Rinse, repeat.

6:00AM: 44F, light drizzle.
Woke up to some lovely rain once again! Thursday looks to be mostly sunny, then kinda sunny Friday, then rain for the weekend.
See - THIS is equal opportunity weather. Something for everyone.
-
6:00AM: 50F (!!), overcast.
We hit 60F yesterday, as predicted. I did not get out to see the booty short situation, but I can confirm none passed by my office window.
Klawock hit 82F. I believe that's "bikinis downtown weather" (female AND male), but again - I have no persona experience on which to draw.
-
6:00AM: 43F, fair.
It might hit 60F today.
Time for the booty shorts to hit the streets!
(Not on me, never on me! 🤣 )
-
6:30AM: 45F, overcast.
Cloudy today, mostly sunny tomorrow.
A 4000 tourist day.
If I want to walk in Totem Park in peace and go to the grocery store and find food, I need to do both soon!
-
6:00AM: 46F, light rain.
Woke up to the lovely pitapat of rain on the roof and looked out to see a foggy/misty morning.
I'm at the point in the season where I start cursing how long the light lasts in the AM and PM, so waking up to a wee bit of darkness was most welcome.
-
6:00AM: 43F, overcast.
"Chance rain" in the forecastable future, low in the low 40's, high in the low 50's..
Which means grey and cloudy. YAY!
-
5:45AM: 48F, light rain.
And rain it did....
Sitka got 1.31" in the last 24hrs. Only Yakutat, way up north on the panhandle, beat us with 1.54".
Still dark & rainy this morning, it will stop in the early afternoon.
