  1. There's nothing wrong with a traditional family. What is wrong is making one model of a family become the standard for all families, imposing it as a "tradition", AND co-opting that to mask authoritarianism, paternalism, and overall incompetence while manufacturing fear and enforcing obedience.

What fascists seem to conveniently miss is that not everyone respects elders just because they're fkn old. I respect someone just because, not because of their age, credentials, or position in manmade structures. Respect comes with the dignity that people are born with; respect isn't earned. So everyone has an equal opportunity to earn disrespect and have people spit on their graves. What fascists seem to conveniently miss is that not all parents are humane; therefore, not all adult children feel remorse for treating them the same way they themselves were treated growing up. Neither do all adult children want to continue that abusive cycle with their own children.

Thus, what fascists hate the most is that other people possess agency and are capable of thinking, unlike what is expected within the abusive family model that they conveniently dub a traditional family.

  2. Your body remembers what your mind tries to forget. #trauma isn’t just mental, it lives in the nervous system as fight, flight, freeze, submit, or reaching for help. None of this means you’re broken. It means your body protected you. Healing is possible.

  3. Domestic violence doesn’t look one way, and it doesn’t happen to only one group of people. It crosses every gender, age, income level, and background. The myths surrounding it keep people silent and keep survivors from getting help.

If this is your reality, you are not alone, and support is available. Reach out to The Liefde Organization at liefdesaves.org.

  4. Some people cannot see past their own blindspots. My peace does not depend on their apology, but in knowing that I deserve more.

  5. Moral injury isn’t the same as trauma, though the two often travel together. It’s the distress that follows when someone does, fails to prevent, or witnesses something that violates their own moral code. It can show up as guilt, shame, loss of trust, or a quiet sense that the world no longer makes sense the way it used to.

The good news is that repair is possible! It starts with understanding what happened, what it meant, and what kind of healing fits.

  6. Violence doesn't just leave marks on the body. It changes the brain itself, shaping how a person reacts, protects, and copes long after the danger has passed. The four responses below (fight, flight, freeze, and fawn) are the nervous system doing exactly what it was built to do: keep us alive. Understanding them is often the first step toward healing.

  7. Trauma isn’t always a single event. Sometimes it’s a car accident or a house fire, and sometimes it’s years of conditional love, silent treatment, walking on eggshells, or never feeling emotionally safe at home. Both leave marks. Both shape how we connect, trust, and cope as adults.

  9. Your brain can’t always tell the difference between a work deadline and a saber-tooth tiger.

That’s why you fight, flee, freeze, or fawn.

  10. Some families are not dangerous.

    They are traumatised.
    Exhausted.
    Hypervigilant.
Trying to survive while being assessed at the same time.

There is a difference between distress and danger.
And systems need to learn it.

  11. Hello (again) Mastodon! 👋 I’m an international educator, psychology grad, and "pracademic" focused on #InternationalEducation.

Psychological and physical safety is a prerequisite for learning. Yet, #ChildProtection is complex and culturally nuanced. I apply academic research to the daily realities of #Safeguarding in schools.

Excited to connect with peers and build safer communities together.
