  2. Before spending weeks on a scholarship application, check whether the opportunity actually fits your situation.

Verify eligibility, requirements, funding, deadlines and preparation time first. If something is unclear, mark it for verification instead of making an assumption.

I explain the full decision check in SDI 01:

  3. “Fully funded” does not always mean “everything is covered without conditions.”

Before accepting a scholarship, check what it covers, renewal requirements, academic conditions, work restrictions, approvals, and other terms.

I wrote about the common misunderstandings students face when reading fully funded scholarship offers.

  4. A scholarship can look professional and still require verification.

Before applying, paying fees, or sharing documents, check the organisation, university affiliation, selection process, payment requests, and independent evidence.
    Verify first. Decide later.

  5. Scholarship information changes as it moves from official sources to blogs, social media, and group chats.

A wrong deadline, funding figure, or eligibility rule can cost you weeks of preparation.
My new guide explains how to verify scholarship information, trace it to the source, cross-check key details, and confirm uncertainty with the provider.

  6. Think you qualify for an international scholarship?

Check again before you start writing.
A scholarship summary may show the obvious criteria while important restrictions sit in the full guidelines. Field, degree, and grades may match, but one residency, age, or previous-scholarship rule can change everything.

Read the full eligibility rules first.

  7. “Fully funded” is a useful label, but it is not a complete funding plan.

Before applying, check what the scholarship actually covers, when payments begin, which costs are excluded, and how long the funding lasts.
I explain the practical checks applicants should make before planning around a scholarship.

  8. Rejection does not always mean an applicant was "not good enough."

Some outcomes depend on competition, cohort composition, and factors applicants cannot see.
    But some weaknesses are avoidable.
SIN 015 examines the difference between the two and lays out nine weaknesses that better preparation can actually fix.

  10. “Graduate scholarship” does not always mean what applicants assume.

Before applying, check whether the scholarship supports your exact study level, programme structure, and entry stage.

This short guide explains what to verify before spending weeks preparing an application.

  15. GLOBAL EDUCATION: The U.S. is facing a 17% drop in new international-student enrolment, raising fresh questions about its competitiveness as a global study destination.

For universities, this is more than an admissions issue. International students contribute tuition revenue, talent and research capacity, so changes in student preferences can reshape recruitment strategy.

  18. GLOBAL EDUCATION: Universities are under growing pressure to prove that AI adoption improves learning, research and employability, not simply that they have access to new AI tools.

That shift matters for institutions competing for international students and partnerships. The strongest programmes will increasingly connect AI capability with measurable outcomes.

  19. AUSTRALIA HIGHER EDUCATION: The University of Sydney has launched an independent investigation into a professor’s controversial trip to Iran, focusing on the approval process and whether university compliance systems were followed.

Why it matters: universities are facing increasing pressure to strengthen governance around international travel, research and national-security compliance.

  20. UK HIGHER EDUCATION: Universities are warning that falling international student numbers are putting finances under serious pressure. New figures show student visa applications fell 11% year on year, raising concerns about further cuts to courses and staff.

Why it matters: international recruitment is becoming a strategic issue for university finances and global competitiveness.

  21. Education leaders are entering a new phase of AI adoption: the competitive question is no longer whether universities use AI, but how well they integrate it into teaching, research and workforce preparation.

For institutions serving international students, that shift could influence recruitment, partnerships and programme design.

  25. A tipping point at the University of Sydney: international students now outnumber Australians.
While this underscores the global appeal of our unis, it also screams about the chronic underfunding of domestic higher education. We've become reliant on full-fee paying students to keep the lights on. Is this sustainable?

  27. As a history teacher in international schools, I’ve taught students from many countries. What unites them? Curiosity, courage, and the need to feel seen.

    🌍 Connect across cultures

  28. I know now I'm just talking crazy talk... but I believe a society should value education, not tuition. So make education free for Canadians at Canadian Colleges and Universities.

If International Students would like to come here, use the cap system so it is a manageable number and then they can pay the “domestic rates” we pay now. Not some exorbitant and exploitative amount that is based on the Province's reluctance to pay for education, not the student's ability to pay for their coming to Canada.

    IOW.

If you are Canadian and go to school in Canada you should not need to pay for Education.
If you come from elsewhere, you should not have to be rich.

  29. I support this... BUT... has anyone told the Minister how utterly dependant the Provinces are on exorbitant foreign tuition fees to fund domestic public colleges, universities, and even K-12 schools?

So my real question is: Will there be Federal funding restored to help Provinces deliver public education?
