The last few days have been hard. I won't go into detail, but studying while dealing with CPTSD really sucks.
Pushing myself through essay after essay, trying so hard to do well, and getting next to no feedback with bearly a pass mark to show for it. It wears you down.
How do you keep going when the effort feels invisible? Whether you're studying with CPTSD, navigating trauma recovery, or just running on empty this week, tell me what gets you through. I'd like to know.

BOOSTS WELCOME: If you're looking for someone supposedly "normal", you're in the wrong place. I'm a bi trans man, survivor of many things, have a lot of different life experiences, I'm a little unhinged, an optimist, and unconventional in how I live and love. l'm disabled, ND, and I try to find the joys in each day. I love Baby Yoda(he's my child), I'm a witch, I'm weird... I'm....okay, okay who am I kidding-all this stuff(plus loads more) just makes me awesome. Carry on😉😝
(Also, if you're not following already you're very welcome here. No minors thanks, as I sometimes cover NSFW topics❤️).

Your little reminder that you can be a positive and optimistic person, and still have days where you're frustrated and angry about your medical conditions and disability. It's valid to have low days. This stuff is hard work.

CW: Sexually suggestive
Some of y'all need to realize that the freaky sex and the #MentalIllness are a package deal with me and you need to respect my boundaries around the latter if you want the former.
#cPTSD sucks, that's why I'm not inflicting it on you. -
Hyperarousal is when your nervous system is stuck in fight or flight. It’s feeling like everyday moments are emergencies even when you're safe.
Three Coping Techniques:
🌻Slow your exhale: This signals safety to your body
🌻Name what's around you: This is to ground yourself back in the present
🌻Pause before reacting: Just 90 seconds helps

Yes I'm a positive thinker and an optimist, and also I'm very much over all the physical pain today. Stress about upcoming bills and being under the poverty line only add to it all. I'd really love a break😅

Hope you're well today. TL;DR is I'm trying to raise $30.

Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/ottercynicalI'm a painfully neurodivergent and chronically unemployed pan nb, a father to twins, and trying to get on my feet. Today I'm trying to gather up about $30.
I'm on hard times and haven't been able to secure a job in many months, and have gotten by on the charity of family and the kindness of others, but have little for myself. I post here because I appreciate the Mastodon community.
I'll forever remember and be thankful if you are willing to lend me your support. I also take gameplay requests (at no cost). Every penny goes directly toward surviving. My handles are below. Pic is my dog, Biscuit. Thank you for hearing me out.

just got off the phone with dad where he tried to bait me into trashing my oldest brother in his job search. no thanks, dad.
i don't really get along with my oldest brother, but i'm not about to join my dad on trash-talking him.
dad hasn't worked in 15 years and was butthurt that my brother didn't ask him to review his resume.
"but when i worked, people always came to me and asked me to review their resumes!" cool story, dad.
i told him not to take it personally and he said "i never take things personally!"
shortly afterwards he said "well, i've gotta go. goodbye." 🙄
note: when i was job-hunting recently, i didn't send my resume to my dad because he loves to give extremely nitpicky comments as if it's advice from on-high. BUT, my *mom* asked to see my resume, which i thought was weird, and later it turned out that she SECRETLY sent my resume to my dad and then made me read his comments.
my parents: what a jolly pair! and people wonder why i have trouble trusting people!

me in 2026, the year of the fire horse (i'm the cat):
(granted, this has kind of always been me with life in general, but i feel it hard this year. on the plus side, i feel more capable of handling this "life pull situation" than i ever have in my past - mentally, emotionally, physically. these days i have my life set up to where i usually have time and space to rest and regain my small amounts of strength. so the dragging is not going as miserably as it has in many other times in my life. **waves tiny flag**. inshallah this state will continue and i won't backslide into being unable to handle life's normal business.)

From FB, and so relatable. The Self There is a particular kind of shame that comes from looking around one day and feeling like everybody else got a head start on being a person.
They built careers while you were learning how not to panic. They formed healthy relationships while you were still mistaking familiar pain for love. They saved money, took risks, travelled, studied, made plans and developed confidence while enormous parts of your energy were being spent simply trying to feel safe inside your own life.
But nobody sees time that way.
They see the age.
By thirty you should have this. By forty you should know that. By fifty surely you should be further along. There are invisible milestones everywhere, and when your life doesn’t match them it can feel like evidence that you’ve somehow failed at adulthood.
So you compare your chapter to somebody else’s without accounting for what it cost you just to reach the page you’re on.
You forget the years spent recovering from things you didn’t cause. The relationships you had to unlearn. The beliefs about yourself you had to dismantle. The energy lost to anxiety, hypervigilance, grief, dissociation, people-pleasing or simply getting through days that looked completely ordinary to everybody else.
That time wasn’t empty.
You were doing work.
It just wasn’t the kind of work society knows how to put on a résumé.
You were learning that love shouldn’t frighten you. You were learning that saying no doesn’t make you cruel. You were discovering which parts of your personality were actually yours and which were adaptations. You were learning how to make decisions without asking what would upset everyone else first.
Some people got to spend their early years building a life.
Others had to spend part of adulthood rebuilding the person who was supposed to live it.
Of course those timelines look different.
This doesn’t mean trauma should become the explanation for everything that hasn’t happened yet, or that we have no agency over where we go from here. But shame is a terrible starting line.
Maybe you aren’t lazy. Maybe you aren’t immature. Maybe you haven’t “wasted your potential.”
Maybe you’ve been measuring yourself against people whose energy wasn’t being spent fighting battles you couldn’t see.
There is no prize for arriving at somebody else’s version of life on time.
And perhaps I’m not behind at all.
Perhaps this is simply what my life looks like after taking the long way back to myself.

CW: #ChildhoodTrauma #CPTSD #MentalHealth
Sometimes something happens, a thought process or an event, that suddenly and without warning reminds me how much I hate and have always hated my father* (since about age 11 at least - I'm 59 now).
It's not a pleasant experience (to put it mildly) but that doesn't mean I can (or even should) suppress it or push it away. I simply have to let myself feel it until it has been sufficiently felt and recedes again of its own accord.
I also have to deal with the breathing and stomach problems these memories always bring on. Life with CPTSD. Yay.

*Possibly my late father, I have no idea now.
