Vandaag help ik mijn 80-jarige vader met het uitzoeken van een Linux computer. Ik zal hem een beetje helpen met overstappen van Windows. Ja, een Linux computer, want je geeft Linux een eerlijke kans op hardware die goed werkt met het OS. Dat zou je ook doen met Windows of MacOS. Ondertussen zie ik “digital natives” dwepen met hun Macbooks, ouderen grappend uitmakend voor #boomers, terwijl ze vaak niet weten waar hun harde schijf ophoudt en de cloud begint😀.

Dear GenX and Boomers; It’s the 1980’s again. Again the rich & yuppies have removed most if not all regulations from capital, and are telling the rest of us — about to get hurt or lose it all in the crash that their unfettered access to money created — that we’re stupid and left wing ideals are the actual problem, we should just get rich like them.
I’ve seen this game of musical chairs before, and I know how it ends.

But, @fortune @news-fortune, some of us #younger #Baby #Boomers who don’t have #high #incomes — because few people are paid #livable incomes anymore — haven’t yet paid off our #mortgages. We’re desperately hoping we can afford to keep living in our homes.

#Lead started being added to #gasoline in the 1920s. There wasn't a big boom in #car sales so it didn't start picking up until the 1940s perhaps early because of the war. It peaked in the 1970s. The #silentgeneration wasn't subject to a ton of lead poising as a child but even adult lead poisoning can lead to early onset dementia and cognitive decline. #Boomers were subjected to a higher level of lead poisoning as children and reached its peak as adults. #GenX got hit the worst of any generation during their most crucial time with the most damage. Elder #millennials got hit with probably what the early boomer got hit with and but wont have to face it as they age as adults. Younger millennials and beyond will be some of the most clear headed and smartest old people if they can figure out how to build social community networks. GenX on average is shaping up to be the meanest, angriest and dumbest elderly generation thanks to what was done to them by the corporations. It kind of explains Trump. They vote conservative but their new conservative is in your face fascist. Feral like they were raised, screwed on both ends of things taking care of their parents and kids losing so much of their best like stressed to the max during the worst recessions. That anger was perfectly directed by fascism. This next election will be when GenX finally has the same number of voters than the boomers for the fist time in history. As someone on the cusp of millennial and genx I have to be aware of this so I don't turn into a scared angry bigot when I get old because I might well have the ability to do so. . -
When we were kids, many of us also thought that we’d inherited a fucked up world from our parents (how stupid they were, the people who raised us!) and were confident that we’d fix what they’d broken.
Ha! How’d THAT work out for us? 🤦🏼
But then we finally grew up a bit and understood that we’re all doing the best we can with what we have.
Our parents knew that the world could not be set right in a single generation, so they raised us to continue the battle. And now we’ve done the same for our kids who, I’m sure, will finally come to the same understanding.
But in the meantime, they need to stop the whining. We’re embarrassed on their behalf by their pride in their own immaturity.

Lately I’ve been seeing Gen Z-ers being called Zoomers. First of all bravo you namers. You named Gen Z-ers after their most hated generation. The one they keep getting compared to, negatively of course.
Secondly you didn’t check with other parts of the world to see if someone started calling Boomers, themselves, this. They had. ZoomerMedia is an entrenched Canadian company that began in 2007, (ten years before people began calling Gen Z-ers this). Shortly before, Boomers that were more active in older ages than their parents and other generations coined the term Zoomers. As this was a positive portrayal of the generation, Canadian media pounced and Zoomer Magazine and Zoomer Radio were born.
It’s not for a lack of names that some call you Zoomers, Gen Z. Pick any of the following: iGeneration, centennials, post-millennials, and Homelanders have all been used. Why not pick one of these? It’s easy.
Otherwise we name our generations thusly: the Greatest Generation, the Silent Generation, Zoomers, Gen X, Millennials, Zoomers. So maybe the new naming convention should be every third generation is named Zoomer.
However, Zoomer Media you aren’t helping your case. Now you say a Zoomer is anyone 45 and older. I will not sit by silently while you have attempted to wipe out Gen X and all they have fought for. Do you think a swipe of the pen can erase our non-identity identity?
It really doesn’t help your case when this is on the Zoomermedia page:
ZoomerMedia focuses on Canada’s most powerful audiences — the 17.2 million Baby Boomers and Gen Xers over the age of 45 (which we coined Zoomers) and the 13.2 million Millennials and Gen Zs under 45 (which in the US have recently also been coined Zoomers). The term Zoomer now represents the whole family, from old to young.
Now everyone’s a Zoomer? I don’t see generation, I only see Zoomers?
I might give up on deciding which side to land on. But I for sure do not agree that Gen X and Millenials should get wiped out by an all encompassing Zoomer tag.
