Over three hours of interviews for Marie Skłodowska-Curie doctoral network positions, one paper review, drafting a review article, and reviewing workshop proposals.
A busy day, but full of good academic things: interesting people, thoughtful work, and worthwhile projects.
I just wish there were slightly fewer worthwhile things at once.

Multitasking?
Of course I can multitask!
Look at me, waiting for my #rstats code to run and looking for new jobs, because my contract will end in 6 months and there hasn't been a clear commitment to prolong it, and drinking tea all at once!#AcademicChatter #AcademicLife #PhDLife #PostDocLife #AcademicMastodon

And now, the most important images from my time in Cape Town for #ICA26 -- the *adorable* African penguins at Boulders Beach and the beautiful sights at the Cape of Good Hope. I'm so grateful to have a job where I get to travel and talk with/learn from so many other smart people while also getting to see parts of the world that I might otherwise never see!

❗Update on Plagiarism and Falsification in Scientific Publications
Today, I officially submitted requests for the retraction of articles to the editorial boards of the journals "Land Reclamation and Water Management" and "Bulletin of NUWM".
❗Key facts of misconduct:
🔹 Plagiarism: Unauthorized use of my original relief map (2015) without citation.
🔹 Falsification: Intentional removal (retouching) of the author’s stamp with coordinates and date-time on site photographs.
🔹 Duplication: Publication of identical material in 2021 and 2024.Next steps:
In the event of attempts to covertly remove the articles without an official retraction notice, relevant complaints will be forwarded directly to @crossref and the international members of the editorial boards.#OpenScience #ResearchMisconduct #AcademicMastodon #ScientificIntegrity #Hydrology #Geoscience #GIS #FediScience #Plagiarism #SvystunovaGully #COPE #Crossref #DataIntegrity #ImageManipulation #AcademicChatter #ResearchEthics #EarthScience #HigherEducation

Hello Fediverse!
I’m studying how communication and media scholars think about Twitter/X and its recent whirlwind of changes. If this sounds like you (communication/media scholar, currently or previously used twitter, 18+ years), please take this survey and share your thoughts.
And please share/circulate to help this reach the right people!

I'm teaching my first lecture at the new job today, about probabilistic logic programming, probabilistic inference, and (weighted) model counting.
Some of the required reading is a paper (https://eccc.weizmann.ac.il/eccc-reports/2003/TR03-003/index.html) that was written by a great mentor of mine, prof. dr. Fahiem Bacchus. He passed away just over 2 years ago, and I am honoured to keep his memory alive by teaching his ideas to a new generation of students. Hope to do him proud. 🌱
Please send good vibes? 🥺

Lovely to hear that lots of folks from #academia have been migrating over the past few days to become part of #macademia. The #introduction post, including hashtags, will help us find you. I’m keen to build connections with others interested in #QualitativeResearch #HealthSociology #MedicalSociology #HealthServices. I am starting some new work, connected to children and #SocialCare tomorrow, so I am also looking forward to learning lots about this area from wise(r) colleagues. #AcademicMastodon
