I'm looking for a replacement for MS Publisher. It has been my go-to application for anything that needs a detailed layout for printed materials (e.g., #academicPosters, #flyers, table tents, #businessCards). Now that #Microsoft will stop supporting it in October, I need a new idea.

What is everyone else using for desktop publishing?

#Canva is great for some projects, but the translation to printed materials has issues (like not being able to set margins). I've also tried #InDesign, but that has a steep learning curve and is overkill for what I need.

And no Word or PowerPoint. I've tried those too. This is not what they are designed for.

I feel like a re-introduction is long overdue!

My name is Anna, and I'm an assistant professor of Algorithmics at the Delft University of Technology, specialising in combinatorial optimisation, symbolic AI, constraint programming, propositional model counting, operations research and reasoning under uncertainty.

I'm a nerd, a feminist and a traveller, not always in that order.

In my spare time I like to hike and go geocaching. I try to go swing dancing a few times a week. I am a Trekkie. I want to learn how to draw. I am an Indomie and Obsidian enthusiast. Based in the Netherlands, I miss Belgium, Canada and Singapore.

I'm teaching my first lecture at the new job today, about probabilistic logic programming, probabilistic inference, and (weighted) model counting.

Some of the required reading is a paper (https://eccc.weizmann.ac.il/eccc-reports/2003/TR03-003/index.html) that was written by a great mentor of mine, prof. dr. Fahiem Bacchus. He passed away just over 2 years ago, and I am honoured to keep his memory alive by teaching his ideas to a new generation of students. Hope to do him proud. 🌱

Introducing the Innovation in Instructional Laboratories (I² Lab)! @i2lab When I was named an Engineering Unleashed Fellow for 2023, it gave me the opportunity to launch my own research lab. Last semester I had three students working with me and this semester we've added two more. We are applying KEEN's entrepreneurial mindset (EM), design thinking, and universal design for learning (UDL) to make the BIOE415 laboratory space and course more accessible and inclusive.
